18.  Saturday, 6.30 AM.  Ther  44

Clear with SW wind shifting to west before noon and NW before night  turning much cooler and cloudy most of P.M. very heavy wind most of the day.  Comer in town settle with him and buy 59 old switch ties from him for 10.00  Hutton Township pays up $8.16  Sell Manifold  1/2 cd wood.  Uncle John brings me a bushel of rye.  Very disagreeable day on account of the heavy wind.  Tue complaining of neuralgia  Gobed at midnight

Charles starts on trip to New York

17.  Thursday  6.15 AM  Ther 38  

Mostly clear North wind.  Get ready and start for  N.Y. 324 train.  Left Dick sawing wood  Phebe took me to train.  Street fair in Terre Haute today.  Train behind time all the way.  Cold raw day and night.  Didn't sleep  car no heat arrive Buffalo 8 AM.

18.  Friday.  Arrive Buffalo hour or so late.  Didn't want any breakfast.  Went out to Pan American grounds returning late P.M  Getting very cold and tired.  Cold raw day NW. wind, clear.  Put up at Hotel Columbia not far from Central  Depot and retired about 6 P.M.                                     

19.  Saturday.  Buffalo day today at P.A. and decide not to attend Exposition today.  Threatening weather, light rain about 10 AM.  Went to Niagara about 10 AM. by trolley, remain all day.  Return to Columbia about dark very tired and retire early.

Mostly clear. S.1.  Figure up weather before breakfast.  Buddy and Charles getting ready to leave this P.M.  Heavy shower with thunder 11 A.M. (32)  More P.M.  Heavy shower and at night. (42).  Tue went to 3.14 train with Buddy.  Several light showers P.M.  About 6 PM  I drove out to fairground where they are building trolly(sic) line.  Get some rivets at Frommells.  Gobed,  9 P.M.

Friday, July1, 1887  6.15 AM  Ther  76.  86.  74.

Mostly cloudy, Learning to use the gasoline stove.  Tue cooks exclusively on it today ~ bakes  batch of bread.  Mrs. Davis helping her sew in afternoon.  Maggie and Phebe went this morning to take first  lessons in drawing.  Got my harness at Skidmore.  Buy black and red raspberries one gal. each.  at Mitchells.  Strong south wind all day sprinkle rain several times.  Light showers in different quarters not enough to lay dust here.  Go bed 10 P.M.  Steam cocoons  not soon enough.

Tuesday 6 AM.   Ther.  60.  66.  60. = 62.

Cloudy N.3. R. to 7 A.M.  .02 in.  they began working at trolly (sic.) line extension to run from sixth street St. to Fair grounds along S. side Big Four yestermorn.(sic.)  The National Republican Convention meets in Chicago today to nominate candidates for President and V.P.  It began raining and continued  till after noon.  Sprinkles later.  I did not hitch up.  Had light wood fire in furnace most of the day and at night.  Frances here at night.  Tue went to Groves.  Self read in Kitchen.  Cloudy day N. to N.E. but little rain P.M.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Saturday, June 18, 1887,  6.45 Ther 78. 95. 75

Clear.  Tue slept down stairs with baby.    Then about 75 all night , very close.  Crass cuts burdocks &c. round place and then we get together all the  empties we can.  Pay him up at noon, has worked 2 1/2 days.  Sold him 2 doz. old mason jars for 1.50 bal in cash.  Comer up in P.M. advanced him 20.00 on lumber.  Bert says he will come in in morning tomorrow and we will go to  timber.  Drive after supper.  Lightening N.W. after dark.  Cloud up about 10 P.M. but didn't  rain.  Go bed 10.30-
