8.  Wednesday, 630 AM.  Ther  32.  51.  40.  =  41

Part cloudy.  Southwind.  Pete came 7.45 A.M;  we hitch up gray horse (Warren) and ride nearly to the  the river on Ashmore Road.    She drives alright.  Change for Queen and go over to Col's house.  McClaskeys still  have possession of farm.  Pete and I (?) on shop door  shop door at H.G.s.  Self toothache  Gobed  730 PM

9.  Thursday, 6.30 AM.  Ther.

Poultry Ass has big big show.  Bacon on hand.  He had a good scare on R.R. crossing PM just messing limited train.

10.  Friday.

Gray horse loose in barn all night.  Tue neuralgia all day and night.

11.  Saturday.  

12.  Sunday

Tue stays in bed all day with neuralgia.  Put in much of day keeping house warm.  Our coal is more than half gone.    Chas Love wants to rent H.G. house..  I did not hitch up today.  They are graveling roads a good deal North and East of Charleston.  Ferd here at night, also last night.  Girls went to  went to church.  I read till  9 oc.

13.  Monday.  6 AM.  Ther  7.  27.  19.

Tue still sick with neuralgia and slept but little last night.  She is in south chamber. Shave at Ed Browns AM Paying him in full 25c.  Tue did not get up today and sent for Dr. Patton at night.   He came left meddy.  Tue keeping a/c of provision &c bought.  

14.  Tuesday.

Tue feeling some easier but kept bed all day.  Circut court in session.  Hanley and Daugherty case being tried for fourth time.  The Col. went to work for Shoots yesterday and quiet  on a/c of his health.  Tue sleeps in south room with Marie  Gobed 9 P.M.  

15.  Wednesday.  6 AM.

Tue  about same Does not get much sleep.  Bill Scott calls two or three times to see about renting H.Gs place for Tom Trimble.  Phone send for Dr. Patton again toward night.   Tue still sleeps south room.

16.  Thursday.

Mrs. Handley  in case against Daugherty  got $50.00 Damage.  Tue feeling some better but remains in bed.    Trimble moves into H.G's house PM.  They caught a forger, he ha been passing checks round town.  

17.  Friday.

Tue came down to breakfast. first time since last since last Saturday.  Called to see Tom Tremble P.M.  He thinks pump will need fixing.  Will Goodman kicking about  5th St. being filled up between Van and Jackson.  Van B. also nearly impassible bet 5th and 6th.   I finish reading Felix Grass  The Terror.

18.  Saturday.

Dr. Blair died this morning suddenly 7 AM.  Tue was up all day but doesn't feel very well.

19.  Sunday, 

Tue not feeling well this morning.  Phebe to Paris with friend.

20.  Monday

Tue still feeling puny, but is round at work.  Love boys undertake to carry wood into cellar towards night but don't finish.  Tue sends $5.00 cash to Maggie in letter.  Tue feeling badly all day and at night but did not decide to call in Dr.

3.  Thursday.  5.15  AM  Ther.  54.  82.  70.
Mostly clear.  Wind SE. as it was yesterday.  Jar plum trees again this AM but have not found any Curculios yet.  Tue feeling badly this morning got ready to start for Timber but meet Handley by (?) walnut lumber sold him mine @ 4.00 for 1st or 2nd and $2.00 for culls.  Started to timber about 2 P.M.  Tue went with me.  Tell  Ruban  Rutherford to go to making rails @ 85c. per hundred.  we got home at 7.30 P.M.  Looked for mushrooms but found none.  They have been  finding.  Thunder shower after dark but not much rain.  go bed  10 PM  order 3 cans Beth from Chicago.

4.  Friday.  6.45 AM.  Ther.  55.  55.  47.
Cloudy W. wind.  Uncle John was in town but would not stay to dinner.  Comer was in  and I paid him  some lumber he had sent up to the city from his from his own timber 35.91 in full.  They are clearing off the Johnston lot getting ready to dig the cellar.  Drove down to the waterworks with Charley MCravey after mushrooms.  He went over the river after them and I remained at the waterworks.  He got some and gave me a mess of them.  Mostly cloudy day clear night.  The children have sore eyes.  Tue thinks they must be taking the measles but M & P have had them.  Phebe has not seemed well for a long time and has not gone to school for a week or two.  Go bed 9 PM.

5.  Saturday.  5 AM.  Ther.  40.  72.  58.
Clear wind-let-west.  Very heavy dew.  Was very light frost.  Tried  the curculio again this morning but  did not find any.  Kirk & Co. brought up lumber walnut and  fencing.    Say they are going to leave Monday settle up with them owe them bal.  $28.45.  Learn that R.R. inspected .  Clear day Phebe  seems to be breaking out with something like measles supposed she had the measles in Wisconsin four years ago.  Gobed  10 P.M.

January 29-31, 1888 in Charleston, Illinois

29. Sunday, 7 A.M.   Ther.  28.  47.  33.
Nearly clear, wind S.W.  Phebe croupy in night.  Maggie cold better  She went to Sunday School.  Mostly clear day with SW wind thawing fast.  Buy  hier (?) syrup at Calverts.  Look over apple a/cs.  Have about 50.00 of them which will collect next week.  Foggy at night wind N.  Phebe croup in night.  Go bed 10 P.M.

30.  Monday.  6.30 AM.  Ther. 40.  46.  42.
Cloudy, Wind S.W.  Mrs. Rogers comes but doesn't wash.  She decided to wait until Wednesday.  Maggie went to school.  Sold Mrs. Warren old lumber $2.95.  Troy R. cleans up after busted bottles up at store.  Comer in town.  Called to tell me the R.R. had recd. all the switch ties 720 and 17 cross ties.  Went down to look at them.  Throwing pretty fast all day.  Same came out before more wind westerly.  N.W. toward night. E. Easton gives me order from Cerrun 1.55 which I credit on his a/c forward, says he is going to making ties tomorrow.  Everybody has bad cold.  Gobed 10 P.M.

31  Tuesday, 7 AM  Ther.  33.  40.  32.
Cloudy, wind W.  Tue got up and made fires this morning.  Sell  W. Cayler 1/4 Cd wood on cr.  He has paid for 1/2 got sometime ago in delivering.  Riley Eastin brought in 24 posts which pay him for.  Clears off afternoon.   Maggie and Phebe went to school.  Uncle John down to dinner, took a dress out to Aunt Deal.    Stop at F. Knock's shop a while in P.M.  Settle up orders at Dick Bails.  Pleasant day clear day P.M. wind W or NW.  Thawing out pretty fast indications are that this weather will continue.  Clear night with frozen fog or mist.  Phebe cries with earache.  Baby  restless and stopped up with cold.  Go bed 10.30 PM.

Mostly clear.  Went down to R.R. at 7 AM.  Crass and Bill Snider help handle lumber and Anderson got through inspecting by noon.  Some 13000 ft. falling several thousand feet short of Comers count.  Mrs. Dickenson ironed P.M but didn't get through.  Crass pulled weeds out of berry patch in afternoon.  Fred Weber down at night.  Sent box to Yow.  Went down to R.R. toward night inquire about freight on empties.  Pay W. Snider 1.00 for helping about lumber.  Tue paid Miss Pipes yesterday for drawing lessons 10.65.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

12.  Friday,  5.20 AM.  Ther.  69.  86.  74.

Partly Clear, rain with thunder till about 12 last night.  Start for  timber at about 7.30 with H.G.  Stayed round Mill till nearly noon.  Drake and Johnson working there.  Ate dinner in South Hollow near mill site.  Met Comer on way home (?) five mile house.  Get back at 5.30 P.M  John Fields paid Tue $2.00 being part on  a/c for cull lumber 90c still due.  Learn of R.R. accident at Chatework (Chatsworth).  Couldn't get paper.  Pay Wright in full grocery a/c $1.10.  Got pretty well tired out today.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear.  Rec  a/c  lumber inspected on R.R.  they have only received about half that was s(?) bill to E.D. Davis.  Buy load of corn for Comer of Hobert which have put in Ray's stable.  Paid up  J.B. Mitchell over charge of 50c which pd again total 1.30. Learn that Tom Soddert   folks have lost their little girl.  Mrs. Chancellon washes.  Drive out by fair ground with Tue.  Some signs of rain P.M. good deal cloudy N.W.  Air oppressive, especially at night.  Go bed 9 P.M. -   Write William & Co. Lumber  G.C. Dinsey  fruit and butter
