Most cloudy N.E. 2.  Rhoda washes and irons till 2 P.M.  Mostly clear day and averages the hottest to date this year.  Too hot to move round much light variable winds.  No signs of rain.  After 5 P.M.  I drive south to Kickapoo soak up old buggy wheels return via Wrightsville getting home 7 P.M.  Am still waiting for new axels.  Tue patched up old hammock in garden.  The girls went over to Wolmsley's P.M.  My pain in side much better P.M.  Phebe and Muggs dye a red dress.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear SW.1. Ship axles to Phelps by Express Write him enclosing 2.50 as per his letter.  Prepaid Ex. on  axels.  Fritz did not come.  The heat was too much for me today and I  kept busy trying to keep cool without success however.  Drive SW toward night to cool off.  The crops down that way do not show much improvement from the rains.  I went out far as the Parker farm.  Many heavy clouds at mid day with showers around especially south where there was heavy thunder for an hour or two P.M. and apparently heavy rains.  Clear at night variable light  winds today.  It is the hottest average yet.  My mouth and teeth make me very uncomfortable today.  Upper lip swollen.  Rile Hampton rides in Gobed 9.30

Clear. SW.1.  Mouth kept me awake most of night.  Phebe went for paper - all gone.  shave self AM.  Tue went  over to Bells AM., Mr. B very poorly.  Put some washers on old buggy A.M.  and hitch up.  Much cloudy P.M.  Good deal deal of thunder about noon, looks like showers around.  No rain here.  Harman phones AM.  He is very much discouraged says oats are no good.  I drove down to Emmetts late P.M.  He will help me tomorrow if Dorsch doesn't thrash.   I drove up to town line and west to Watson road thence S to Big Four and home S road getting there 7 PM.  The Groves were over till about dark.  I didn't see them.  there is a big gospel tent right back of their house where crazy meetings are held night and day.  My mouth and face are getting worse.  Some cooler at night.  Gobed 9.30

W.  I did not sleep much on account of my mouth and it was worse than ever this morning.  It broke about noon relieving me very much.  Emmett did not come.  Have hopes of his appearing tomorrow.  Decide not to hitch up and leave mare in pasture.  Mrs. Brooks calls P.M.  Learn that Mrs. J.W. Frazier is dead 85.  Phebe borrows Francis Stodderts R.H.  Mostly clear day with good W. breeze.  W.W. Bishop (Capt.) is dead in Tenn.  Jim  Barr is dead at Newman.   Helen Ferrish calls P.M. staying to supper.  Today hottest average day.  Lightning at night in S.N.E. Bureau predicts rain tomorrow.  Gobed. 9.30.

The Weather Etc. for June 1913 at Charleston, Ill.

Daily mean average 76.34.  Maximum 104 on 19th Minmum 40 on 10th Percipitation 1.66 in.  Mostly light showers which fell from 21 to 25.  Rain has fallen on only six days and there has been but little thunder.  The rains last week helped corn a good deal.  There will be big shortage in that crop in this section Oats will not be half a crop- Clover hay short but pretty good in quality.  Timothy very light.  Much  oats will not be cut.  Corn say 60  oats say 40  eggs 15  butter 30 (country)  Roads were muddy last week have gotten good again.  Corn is looking well where up and growing.  The trouble is much of it never came up.

W.1.  Perhaps the hottest night on record here.  Mare was out in 4th St. this morn but comes up and I hitch her up.  It starts out to be hot as yest but dash of rain about 11 AM and cooler P.M.  other light showers P.M.  Mrs. Grove over  afternoon.  I drove to Emmetts P.M. his wife says he intends to work for me tomorrow.  I drove into cemetery.  The rain two miles N. made good deal of mud enough to stop  most of autos.  Much cloudy day with light variable winds.  I met Harman coming home near Western S.H.  Gobed 9.30

N.W.1  Rhoda comes early to wash working till 2 P.M.  Emmett is working for Dorsch.  I shall not run after him any more.  Can get David.  I sit round trying to read until after 4 P.M. when drove the long drive down by Kickapoo and return via Wrights.  Roads are good.  Corn is looking better much of it small.  Get home at 7 P.M.  Leave mare at Nickles intending to go Loxa in Morn. Clear S.#.  Fritz is still working for Dorsch.  I drove down there late P.M.  thinks Saturday morn soonest he can come.  This proves to be about most oppressive heat we have had,  Clear day with fresh southerly wind.  Tue over at Brooks' at night.  Will Ginther and Harry Wright call P.M. to obtain options on Perkins lot.  They didn't get it.  they claim that the new P.O. is to go to old Weber lot on Van B. and 7th sts.  Gobed 10  Tue got letter from Muggs at Jeff Cy: thinks be home July 10.

 Clear.  SW.1.  Tue ironing AM.  I drove round town a little AM but too hot for driving.  Call on Sibert and He with hand take off axles from new buggy and get same ready to ship back to Columbus.  I don't think he followed instructions and I expect to fear about it later.  This has been most sultry day yet.  Mostly clear. light S.W. to N.W. winds.  We need more rain but  no hopes of it soon in the reports.  Tue at Fannie Coons at night.  Phebe out with  Fern.   Get letter from Buddy P.M.  go bed 10.

Cloudy.S.3.  I got early to go to Loxa but couldn't do so.  Oil  buggy.  I  began light rain 6 AM.  Tue got up 6:30.  I start Loxa 8 AM Light rain Drove me back home.  One Rennells says will take most of my old brick today or tomorrow.   Pick out  28 of my stone tomato plants into paper boxes.  They are very small yet.  Harman phones that Paul sick and has not been able to take posts to Loxa.  Get shave and hair cut and wash at Brown's P.M. pd. 50 cts. after which I start E. for drive on Ashmore road.  Too windy for me and return.  Tue went to picture show at C. Hat night.  Part cloudy day with sprinkles rain and threatening.  We are needing some rain.  The roads are getting dusty.  Weather Bureau predicts rain soon.  Gobed. 9.30.  Look at buggies at Bell and Bells.  I look at Mercantile seeing nothing I care for.

SW.2.  I did not sleep till after 3 AM.  Big white frost.  Rhoda came to wash.  Helen Hildreth calls a while AM.  She is  going to a field meet at Decatur.  Mr. Law about same with measles.  His grandson called to see him P.M.  Tue is  getting tired of them think will let them go soon.  Self feel very poorly today with sore face.  Harman calls P.M.  Seems well pleased with situation at farm.  He  is cutting up barnyard  into small lots.  I think good place.   Our last ton of coal lasted just eight days.  Harman called again before going home.   Serius full of gossip.  Says will be in again soon to see about  oats and cloverseed.  He started home after dark with team and and buggy.  Mostly cloudy day.  Light rain 2 P.M. followed by light snow later till dark.  About 1/4 in of snow fell.   My mouth and face seem worse today.  Think Mr. Law getting better slow.  Gobed 10 P  Pay E light bill by mail check 2.25.  720,000 up to last read.

S.3.  The house was colder this morn than have noted this winter.  Ther in setting R. 57.   Something wrong with  furnace or the coal.  Rhoda came about 11 AM and washed done before night.  Phebe cutting  out new brown dress.  Harman phoned AM that would be in with some meat P.M. brought 19 3/4 lb lard 8 1/2 sausage, tender loin, spare rib and beef in all 40 lbs. Pay him check 4.80.  He took out old harness he had left in barn.  Fern was here at night.  The snow went off except north hills.  Mostly clear day with strong southerly.

M.  Learn that Jessie Dunn's baby died last night after long illness.  Tue got a letter from Marie AM.  Hitch up mare 11 AM., first since Sunday.  The scaves (sic)of funeral procesh (sic) on E side.  Tue went down to Jessies A.M.  I got same P.M. after make two trips.  Look for JEMc 5 PM  didn't see him.  Meet Rogers Bennett with Zoll.  Ora was here at night.  She is thinking of going with Phebe next week to Chicago.  Clear AM but clouds up PM. with dashes of rain 5 P.M. and later strong southwind(sic) becoming N.W. before morning.  Gobed 9 P.M.

(sic) N.W. 3. some light showers early in night.  Harman phones that thinks will finish NW tile today.  They plowed yesterday.  Tue goes to funeral P.M.  Jessie Moffets baby.  Helen Ferrish went with her.  Phebe has friends for supper.  Frances, Ora and Fern and Tue made quit a function of it.  Had a roast of Harman's beef which was fine.  Lear of death of Ike Cassell an old settler from way back.  Mostly clear day with high N.W. wind.  It began to grow colder about noon and we are worried at night for fear W W will freeze.  New WC frozen twice this winter.  Go bed 9 P.M.  I spend much of time sorting over old papers and mags.

The weather &c for Jan. 1913.  Average daily mean. 37.1;  Max 60 on 17 and 30.  Min 10 on 12 and 31. Precip. mostly Rain, 5. 91 in .90 on 5th .65 on 6th .60 on 10th 1.00 inch on 16th; 1.41 on 20th and, 83 on 22d an inch or two light snow fell but went off at once.  The Prevailing winds N.5 1/3; N.E. 2/3; E. 1 1/3; S.E. 2; S. 10; S.W. 4; W. 1 2/3, and N.W. 6 days.  The ground has hardly been frozen and they have been plowing this week Cloudiness for Mo, 60%.   Corn say 40.  oats 30.  Hogs 7.00  Eggs 25 butter 30 to 40.  The roads have been very bad and are so still  I have not used roads much.  There has been lots of rain and streams are high.

Cloudy.  Mist.  S.3.  Light rains much of night and sprinkles this morn (.83)  Tue not feeling well but irons much AM.  She has tiff with roomer.They read light meter for month P.M. 684000.  The Dec. no of Geographic came today.  Tue over to Groves at night till late.  Phebe ate supper at Frances Stodderts.  They sent Buddy's box by express.  Cloudy day with moderate northerly winds.  The papers have been talking about a cold wave for two or three weeks but it has not come.  The mud roads are reported very bad.  Am out of cobs as well as corn.  Have coal enough to last till March with this  kind weather.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear.  W. 2.  Rhoda came to wash, irons a while and stays to dinner.  Tue gets cards from Phebe and Helen.  Helen is in  S.W. visiting.  The furnace leaks again but stops.  We are good deal worried about it.  Cottingham came P.M. taking away misfit grate, says right one has come and he will put it in soon.  Thinks like of leak in furnace.  Nickles bill for board mare is 18.00.  I did not hitch up today.  Clear and cool brisk N.Westerly  wind.  Tue got her vacuum carpet cleaner, and uses it much of P.M.  We did not hear from Muggs today and feel quite anxious about her.  I order third sack  wood plaster sent to Loxa for West's house.  Tue went to Grove's 8 P.M.  Self gobed 9 P.M.

13.  Wednesday.  6 A.M.  Ther.  46.  46.  42. = 44 2/3
Cloudy. W. 3.  Rhoda washes A.M.  Tue puts up a box of peas to send Buddy.  Quite a thunder show last night between 8 and 9 oc.  Rhoda  washes and works till noon.  Mrs. Galbreath did not come as promised.  Tue sends Buddy (and writes to her at night) another box of peas also another  package ~  I did not  hitch up nor go up town.  Helen Ferrish called an hour or two P.M.  Tue up town later.  Muggs down to Lelas at night.  Mostly cloudy with strong N. W. wind.  Go bed 10.

Cloudy.  N.W. 3  Fullers deliver 5 tons coal A.M.  He got stuck at coming  in from back St.  Rhoda ironed P.M.  Muggs and Tue busy getting ready to start for Jeff. City next Monday morn.  Didn't hitch up - too cold at night.  Mostly clear day, strong northerly winds.  Read a while  in Chamber at night.  Go bed 8.30

Clear. N.1.  heavy white frost. ice 3/8 in tub.  Coldest morn to date and get good fire in furnace by 8 AM.   Harman phones AM.  Ss will finish 30 a piece tomorrow.  had intended  going out but too cold.  Tue  and Muggs busy sewing &c.  Muggs has  party at night Grace, Dora, Hat, Johnston and others - cards.  Tue sells old cook stove and gets new Majestic range which they put up late evening.  Get 1/2 gal a varnish for furnace.  I drove out to Huffmans late P.M.  Clear day light variable winds.  Gobed 9 P.M.

21.  Tuesday.  6 A.M.  Ther. 54.54. 46. = 51 1/3
Cloudy and raining began perhaps after midnight .06 to 7 A.M.  wind N.W.3  Tue and I had intended to go to Loxa early but light rain most of A.M. prevents.  Tue went  Loxa 3.45 car collecting West's rent and seeing Alva Armstrong about plastering.  I hitch up 4 P.M. and drive to lumber yard.  Have decided to put strip in W.C. and begin it at once.  Frank Balch cleans off of furnace and  adjusts doors- putties up all cracks.  Paid 2.00 ch  Helen calls at night.  I take mare to Nickles.  Mostly cloudy day with strong northerly wind.  Sprinkles rain occasionally AM and after dark clears off late at night.  Muggs out with Dora A getting home after we retire.  The rain amounted to .10 altogether barely laying the dust.  Gobed 9.30

Clear. N.W.1. heavy white frost.  Rhoda washed A.M.  I put up strip in W.C. doing a poor job get can flat white at Briggs cr. 50 cts. and begin putting it on.  Think will have to quit trying to do anything.  Tue working hard all day mopping &c,  I  felt very poorly and think overworked this morning.  Gus and George brought some eggs &~  Clear day with light northerly wind,  Mare in pasture.  Gobed 9.30
