Clear. S.3.  repair harness.  Hitch up and go up to vote.  City Election.  They vote only on alderman and City Court.  Miller here fixing ladders and talking of finishing job soon.  I saw Simmons up town.  Mr. Harry Bell died this morning.  Had been sick a long time.  I drove south of town returning by Wrightsville and cutoff.  Had to wait for steam boiler on Finch hill.  The roads are good.  Service blooming, also red bud sugar maple and some other trees.  Sally Campbell called on Tue.  Mrs. Grove was over while at night.  Mostly clear day strong southwind.  Go bed 8.30

Clear S.W.2.  Harman phones early and wants me to come out today if possible.  Miller went to work painting - first here since last Oct.  Gets 1 gal oil at Briggs.  I drove down to Buck Berts AM  but did not see him.  Helen came AM and was here to dinner.  Grace S. brought notice "Keep out" home.  Tue went to Mr. Bell's funeral 2 P.M.  The Mexican.   That war situation gets serious.  The first fighting occurred yesterday at Vera Cruz.  Tue gets letter from each Bud and Ph.  Make list seeds from Harris. Tue down to Hats P.M.  I went after her 5 P.M.  She and Hat  had gone to Carmichael's.  I did not find them.  Big show September Morn at Opera house at night.  Tue did not go but went to prayer meet.  There is a small frame building being erected back of opera house.  Part cloudy day with south to W winds.  Looks like rain.  go bed 10.  Miller paints on front porch.

Part cloudy E.2.  Miller came 7.  Miller working.  Hitch up 10 A.M.  Mare continues to act worse if anything.  Tue ironing AM.  Drive to Briggs and get gal. of porch paint.  Pay O.J. Ryan 85 cts. for corn bought Monday.  Miller paints all day on porch and south side.  He begins on porch floor we don't like the color of porch and will try to improve it on next coat.  Tue went up town P.M. mails letter for seeds.  Miller quit about 5 P.M.  Mare still vicious and came near getting my left hand while harnessing.  Late PM U drove down to consult Buck Best about her but he  was not at home.  Much cloudy today E. to southerly winds.  Mrs. Toops  calls late P.M.  There has not been much fighting in Mexico yet.  The situation is not encouraging.  Gob 9

S.3.  Miller came about 7 and we fix up shade of color for  which suites it better.  Rain stops him 9.  Emmet came 9.30 A, set him to work mowing yard but  rain stops him.  P.O. authorities investing record sent us by Muggs 10th ist.  We have not received it.  Mrs. Grove calls AM Tue still ironing.  Emmett works till 5 AM. mowing yard &c. will come tomorrow.  Mrs. Reasor and Margurite called about noon.  They are down on visit from  Hindsboro.  Speak to Dr. Kincade about mare.  He says can't help her.  Tue went to R.C. P.M. at Chenowith's.   today last R.C. meet this season.  I buy peas at Crims - poor stuff.  Part cloudy and threatening.  Lightening night Sps several  Gob 9.30  R. .15 in

Partly clear.  Abbott works most of P.M. cleaning up stable.  Buy 3640 lbs. hay of Eley @  8.50.  Mrs. Rogers washed.  Quit smoking tobacco.  Cloudy toward night look like rain lightning N.E. rain with thunder about 11 P.M.  Trade fair  Paid Abbott 25 in full.  Go bed 11 P.M.

Part clear, brisk N.E. wind very chilly.  Start for timber 10 AM.  Milt hauling out lumber.  Will work out my tax and his over on roads next week.  John Handly has moved his (?) about a rod west.  I got home about 7 PM.  Mrs. Faegan helping Tue sew carpet which I bought this AM.  Clear day  Chilly day said to have been light frost this morn.  Gob 12.30

Cloudy strong S.E. winds.  Cloudy all day sprinkles rain several times.  heavy rain about dark and till in night much  lightning, wind S all day.  Trade  dull.  John Kink up with  tow loads of ties says there are but two more in woods.  Mrs.Rogers helping Tue make carpet.  Tue buys a rug of peddler.  Go bed  11 P.M.

Co. for E. light for Mar. 2.43.  Helen called P.M.  She and Tue  called on Mrs. Glassco (Annie)  She is 81 now living with Liela Bunch on Fourth St.  Cloudy day and much colder before noon wind shifting to N.W.  Gobed9

N.W.3.  Gus brought eggs.  Tue gets wash from Warmans Pd .75.  Tue gets letter from Buddy P.M.  Ad Miller called a day or two ago.  Has been preaching all winter and will finish painting our house soon as weather permits.  He is doing some work for Mrs. Curd.  Theatre putting big bill board just across street.  I felt very poorly all day and didn't hitch up.  Tue goes up town P.M.  Gobed 9

N.W.1.  Nickles calls and pay him 25.00 on livery bill.  Miller left his things here, working a little  for Mrs. Curd.  Tue attended R.C. at Chenowiths P.M.  later went up town.  I did not get out much, am out of corn.  have plenty of oats and straw.  I let mare in pasture P.M. a while.  she was crazy  bout it.  Had intended  to hitch up but seemed too cold for me.  Grace S. called P.M. inquiring about Muggs. Tue wrote Muggs at night and went up late to mail letter.  She complains much of rheumatism or something of the sort in legs and back.  Gobed 9.

S1.  Tue right limb painful from hip down  in night.  Seems better this morn.  She gets up and goes ahead as usual.  this is another raw morning.  We have to continue furnance fire from day to day.  We are nearly out of coal again.  Hitch up P.M. and drive out by Cemetery return south road.  The roads are good.  Hardy Hill has been grading down front of his place.  Walter has a sawmill cutting the timber around his barn and west.  I drove to IBM getting 1/2 bu corn for feed.  Tue ironed some P.M. she took one of Colche sal pills AM and thinks it helped her good deal.  Mrs. Brooks came over spending evening.  Gob 9.30

Clear mostly N.2.  Tue lay till near 9.0c.  Shave  ok AM.  Tue went to church AM and got  4th edition R.H.  We had dinner 1.30  I hitch up 3 P.M. and later drive over to see Hatton.  He  will work for me tomorrow but has demanded more wages.  That is he will quit at 5 PM instead of 6 PM.  The roads not so good as I supposed.  Many  mud holes way I went.  drove down past hog farm returning by Phipps place getting home say 5.30.  Mr. Bell reported worse today.Groves did not come as expected.  Tue did not attend church at night.  Mostly clear light N to E winds.  Gobed 9

Cloudy and snowing N.E.5.  Snow seems to be about six inches deep.  Drifted badly and can't tell much about.  Phebe got away at 5.40 for 5.55 car.  She  soon returns no chance of her to make Havana trip today.  The  Methodist church was destroyed with only $6,000 ins.  It was valued at 22,000.  Cold and stormy most of day with light snow till toward. (sic)  The late coal is half slack and snow.  This makes mud.  Alfred came to chore but employed him mostly digging out  paths.  Will come tomorrow P.M.  Chas still sick.  Godbed 8.30 P.M.

Clear.  NE.2.  Phebe makes another start on 6 car getting far as Mattoon  Can get no farther for day or two.  Order through 436 Same to be sent today.  Phebe gets home before noon.  Mrs. Curd called P.M.  H.G.  went to Interurban Sta for  same toward night.  ~~  Alfred did chores.  I did not get out.  We get yesterday's R.H. today.  The storm was general through middle west and traffic is still  tied up  Phebe will try  H again  tomorrow morning.  Clear day with light N.E. winds.  gobed 9

Clear. E.1.  Phebe got off on 5.55 car.  Rhoda came 7 AM. to wash getting done by noon. Pd. 75c.  Tue expects to do ironing herself.  Alfred came but Tue  tells him to wait till the marrow.  She went up town late P.M. and incidentally over to Grove's.  It is supposed that the old Vail stable property  N.W. cor Mad and 6th has been selected for P.O.  clear day southerly light wind.  Self and Tue  not well both grouchy.  Gobed 9.

MO.  Says Muggs advised him to write me about mushrooms.  Alfred  did chores.  We owe him for three trips.  Tue  got home about  5 P.M.  Harman phones at night.  Will finish hauling BC tomorrow.  Part clear day hazy.  Light SW winds  Gobed 8.30

Fog early.  We ate breakfast 9 AM.  Tue ironing AM.  She went to RC at Elwoods 2 P.M.  We were disappointed at not hearing from Phebe today.  Grace Sefton called P.M. to inquire about the girls.  Alfred calls but don't let him work.  Tue gets home about 6 P.M.  Most clear day except fog a while in morning.  Harman called 4 P.M. having gotten through with the BC.  He got  110.00 for straight and 50.00 for crook.  I got 276.46 for my third.  This  is from say 35 acres. a poor crop and badly handled.  Cliff paid me also for load of soft corn forgotten in un settling 12.00 Jan 31. and for load of corn recently sold.  Bert Tuple 111.30 all one check 23.30  There are several items still unsettled, other corn &c.  Mostly clear at night gob 10 P

Depositing at 2nd BC ch 276.46 and Harman ch for corn 23.30 getting  book balanced, went back to pay Gray and Gray. 10.00 and J.H. Pinnell 15.22 chk both for accounts in full to date.  Tue  gets some Codfish.    T.W.P.  Tue  ironing P.M.  Alfred chores at night and Tue  pays him in full and 40 cts. more on next week 1.00  Part cloudy day with westerly wind.  It  clouds up after noon say 1 P.M. and sprinkle of rain. Mean temperature, three observations daily.  26.1 degrees  Maximum 52 on 2d and 17th Minimum 2 on the 25th  Clouds 40% Precipitation 2.50 inches.  Snow say 15 in.  Winds N 1 2/3 days, N.E. 8 days;  E.3 2/3 days; S.E. 2/3 days.  South 4 days; SW 2 2/3 days; West 4 1/3 days and Northwest 3 days.  Warmest day 2d 42 degs.  Coldest 7 deg. average on 12th Precipitation about normal.  The ground is frozen solid but not very deep.  Corn Loxa 55.  Oats 35.  Hogs 8.00  Butter 30 Eggs 30.  Town branch running light stream.   Think roads rough but passable.  They will not be any better very soon.  There is considerable.  snow and ice on the ground in patches.  Side walks have been covered with ice for two or three weeks.  Greatest days of precipitation 6th .55 in.  R and Sleet. 12-13th. 12-13th .41 in. Snow.  18th .95 R&S and 22-23 .38 in. S&S.  Have used to date about 16 tons coal.  My stove wood is nearly gone.

N.W.3.  the snow disappeared in night.  Miller called P.M. also dew.  Miller doubts whether  he will get to paint any more this fall account  of weather.  He leaves Sat. for a revival down in Shelby to last indefinitely.  Cloudy day NW wind.  Self feel poorly Mrs. Brooks and Mrs.  were over at night until 9 P.M.  I did not hitch up today.  Go bed 9.30 PM.

Clear. heavy white frost N.W. 1.  ice 1/8.  Jo Hatton came but too cold to paint.  Miller came and tried it, but gave it up.   Self hitch up 10 A.   Pay Miller in full to date 3.30 check.  See stub.  Mrs. Grove called an hour.  I drive west part of town AM. passed Jo's but didn't see him.  Tue mops up after MG departed.  H.G. calls and I sign note for 35.00 with him. ninety days at State Bank.  Tue went R.C. at Ollie's P.M.  Miller called to get tools and say goodbye.  When he returns from two weeks revival meeting it will be too late to do any painting.  Clear cool day with light northerly winds. and coldest day to date this fall.  Halloween  not so boisterous as usual.  They did not bother us.  Go bed 9 P.M.

Average temperature 54.6  Maximum on 10th 84  Minimum on 31st 28.  Rain on ten days  4.47 in.  Cloudiness 49 percent  Snow on two days 20th and 29th about 1 inch.  Wind during month was N 5 1/3,  NE 3 2/3, E  2,  SE 2 1/3,  S 7 2/3, SW 1.  W.  2 and NW 7 days.  First  half month warm latter half cooler with some heavy rains.  Dirt roads have been quite muddy recently.  Most of rain has entered the ground.  The streams are beginning to run.  There has been great scarcity of water in places.  The city supply seems to be ample.  Little shrinking done as yet.  Don't think  elevators are buying any.

S.2.  This develops into one of hottest days.  I hitch up AM and drove up town but didn't stay long.  Walter and Marie took mare to picnic at Olivers about 11 AM. getting home after dark.  Chas with them.  Too hot for anything.  My bowel trouble did not bother me today.  Tue gets letter from Phebe.  She has secured  place at Havanna, ILL and will  go there next  Sunday for a 13 week term at better salary than at Ann Arbor.  Part cloudy day strong westerly wind P.M. becoming N.W.  We have been married 36 years today.  Chas was asleep when they got home last night.  Lightning in night  Go bed9

Clear N.W.1.  Get shave AM and pay 15c. which claimed I owed.  Drove up town A.M.  Talk with Miller.  Thinks he has taken contract which will occupy him two weeks.  S  Mrs. Gaines Retha and baby near court House.  Walter crates old Bureau and repairs Buddy's Trunk.  Buddy packs up and  they leave for MtC. on 3.14 P.M. train.  Tue and I drove to station to see them off and later drove N. on "plank" road to town line and E. to the Shoots road returning by Ashmore.  Corn some better than round Loxa.  Saw several threshing CS.  Met WM Briggs up town.  He seems in bad health.  Says his C.S. went less than bu. to a.  Drove up and got bu oats at I.B.'s.  They are 50c.  they sell corn .85.  Clear day with strong NW wind.  The roads are very dusty.  Tue feeling poorly as well as myself.  Tue wrote Phebe mailing letter at night.  Gobed 9.

S.E.2. gas smell.  Tue attends church AM.  I drove E. on old Ashmore road crossing at ford.  /there is little water remaining at old ford:  about as much as common faucet.  I return Boathouse road arriving 1.30 P.M.  Jack went.  The  roads are very dusty.  Mostly clear day.  sultry P.M.  Mort and Kate over toward night.  Mrs. Nichols called P.M.  I quit chewing a while tonight.  gobed  9.30

The Weather for August. 1913.  Mean 79.87

Max. on 8th 100.  Min, on 30th 56.  Rain 2.37 inches on twelve days all light showers Heaviest on 20th .62.  Cloudiness 26%.  Winds during month were North 4 Northeast 2: East 3 2/3:  Southeast, 4;  South 7 2/3;  S.W. 3 2/3  West 1 1/3 and Northwest 4 2/3 days.  Everything is dry as ever.  the river is about  dry at old Ashmore ford.  The city has cut ditch from water works up to pools supposed to be fed by spring and we have plenty of water at present.  Oats sell at store @ 50 cts.  corn 80 or more.  Creamy butter 35  Eggs 20.  There is little garden stuff.  Potatoes say 1.00  Tomatoes 2 or 3 cts per pound.  Farmers are cutting their corn to feed cattle.  Pastures dery as dust and bare.

S.2.  Phone JEM"same" this morn getting it about noon.  This is "Labor day" and generally observed.  There was mil delivery only AM. and no R.F.D.  Tue got letter from Phebe and she is probably at Havanna today.  Harman called at shed 5. P.M. - has "hay fever"  Tell him we don't want clover meadows pastured.  Wants to sow wheat.  Thinks BC will be 200.  This was one of our hottest days and night.  Clear day with moderate southerly wind.  Grace Sefton calls P.  I made batch of mush for my supper.  Go bed 9

S.1.  Tue got letter from Buddy.  They got home all night.  Friday night.  I drove up town AM.  and then keep still toward night on account of the heat.  It proves to be among the hottest days.  I started out about 5 P.M. S.W.  Over took John Parker who rode home with me.  I drove out by hog farm, lost cigar and return.  Mostly clear S. to W. moderate winds.  Drive up town with Tue for ice cream after reace home She war at Brooks.  Gobed 9

Mostly clear SW.2  Our hottest night.  Tue and girls ironing AM., finish.  Hot winds drying up crops in west report temperatures up to  112. from Kansas and Nebraska.  The U.S. are having diplomatic troubles with Mex. which may lead to  war.  My pain in side worse today and with the heat made me very uncomfortable: hottest average day so far.  I did not hitch up.  Tue and girls attend band concert at night.  Gobed 10.  Clear fresh N.W. wind.

Clear.  N.E.2.  Mostly clear day.  brisk northerly wind Some Cumuli lay low in south P.M.  The pain side Kept me pretty grerat(sic) today.  Hitch in morn but didn't drive any till late P.M.  Girls had sort of function P.M.  Gace Sefton and Mary Walmsly perhaps others.  I drive west 5 P.M.  Drive by J.B. Hills to town Line return by waterworks and South road.  Think side gets worse.  It is easier when I keep still.  Take mare to Nickle's.  Theodore delivered me home.  Tue and girls went up town and I  gobed 9.30

Cloudy. W.1.  Light rain (.10)  Go up to Brown's for shave AM.  Did not order mare till 10 oc and then drove up town only.  My pain in side seemed better early but later annoyed me so that I had to keep quiet most of the time.  Tue wants me to get Dr. but will try it a while longer.  Toward night drove down to Electric Light for couple of lamps but pain prevented my getting them.  One of Co's men brought the lamps later,  Talk minute with Jake Daizy.  He is feeling poorly.  The Chautauqua season begins today and many non residents here.  There is quite a settlement of tents at fairgrounds.  Gobed 9  Nickles came down for mare.

Clear.  N.W.1.  I drove up town A.M. but find more comfortable to remain quiet.  Paper did not come till after 3 PM. on account of a wreck or R.R. Tue and Muggs attend church AM.  Tue  and Mrs. Brooks call on Mrs. J.B.M. P.M.  Maggie long auto ride with Frank Ricketts P.M.  Clear day with light northerly wind.  There must have been big crowd at Chautauqua.  try BW plaster on side.  Gobed  10 P.M.

W.3.  Furnace fire went entirely out and coldest morn in house this winter.  W.C. didn't freeze although forgot to "fix" it.  Dr. Dudley calls on measles patient.  Tue did not attend church, but went up for Sunday R.H.  Nobody called mostly clear day with brisk westerly wind becoming S.W. at night. Read Tom Jones till bedtime.  Am nearly through with it.  Tue read it after I retired 9.30

Hazy.  Am cutting my rations short and think sleep better.  The coal of last Tuesday bout gone.  Grace Sefton called AM.  Her father is very low.  They don't expect him to  get any better.  Harman phones that will be in tomorrow to see about some clover seed he knows of.  Florence Moon called P.M.  She is married and lives at Fort Collins, Col.  She has come E to get her mother Nettie Highland Moon from Janesville to Charleston.  She is paralysed(sic), and they recently got here.  Tue reports that Mort and K will be over, but they didn't come so I nearly finished Tom Jones.  Mostly clear till night SW winds and cloudy with light rain at night.  Gobed 9  R.05

Cloudy.  Wind S. but noon changed to west or NW and grows colder. all day;  work at store  two or three hours AM.  Cleaning up counter and desk.  Baby better and seems pretty lively.  Tue irons a part of the washing which she has done herself.  Brought lap robe down home.  Mostly cloudy day, wind NW.  Gobed 10 PM.

Cloudy wind, North.  Pay Mitchell for Maggie's shoes 1.50 and buy  pair for baby 50c.  Settle with Alan Fisher wood sold him (?) statement wood a/c to C. Mason.  He owes 11.00  2.00 of it being for delivering.  Find my ladder lost over a year ago on roof of City Hall.  All Crass gets it down for me.  Draw off balance of whiskey B,&L. left in Bbl. about 6 gallons in all.  Caylor pays me for 1/3 cd wood by Bob Gileman.  Sold Dr. Hall 1/4 cd.  Mrs. Feagan over at night.  Go bed 10 P.M.  Cloudy NE wind.

9.  Monday, 5.30 AM.  The. 14.  36.  30. = 26 2/3Clear SW.2.  ice 3/4.  This is coldest morning since Mar. 25 when temp was 10.  Furnace leaks so at times am afraid to build all we need.  Jim Turner brought me bushel butternuts P.M. paid 75c.  Grace Sefton called P.M. says her father feels better.  Her brother George Sefton has been here from Ark. for two or three weeks - returned today.  Tue gets letter from Muggs also one from Phebe.  Alfred didn't come was expected.  Mostly clear with Southwesterly strong.  Learn that  Bud Skidmore is dead.  He lived in St. Louis.  Gobed. 1030.

Cloudy, misty Wind E.  Mrs. Davis helping  Tue on dress for Ma.*  Ruth Davis sent off her cocoons today.  I packed them up last night.  A dark day.   Heavy mist from N.E.  raining at times.  Few People in town.  Roads very bad.  Learn that coal shaft is down  about 60 ft.  Phebe has not been to school this week.  Tue feeling some better.  C.G. (him) sick in night from oysters.  Baby had terrible spell of crying in night.  Her front teeth are coming through.  Gobed 9P.M.

  Clear.  S.W.1.  Sharp frost. ice. 1/8 in tub.  I start Loxa about 10 a.  The  roads are generally dry many ruts.  Gang of men repairing West of Frank Newman's.  I pass through Loxa to west part  place.  Mrs. Gaines gave me  large pumpkin.  I did not see Harman  Preston was shucking also Paul and another hand ate light dinner.  W. Crabapple (written in margine)  Find they are missing good deal of corn.   There are a lot of red pigs staying in field.  See that Harman has appropriated whole of N.W. 40.  Count 13 head of cattle in there today.  Jack didn't go.  Mrs. Galbreath came today.  She went uptown with Muggs and Tue at night.  Gobed 8.30 P.  Clear Day. varible winds.

Clear light northerly winds.  Clear W.1. Heavy white frost.  Ice 3/16 None of folks attend church. Maggie about sick and took meddy all night.  Mrs. Galbreath left for Terre Haute on 3-4 P.M. car.  We had dinner about 2 P.M.  I hitch up early but didn't drive till after 4 P.M.  Went down by Woodson place and home by  Wrightsville.  The roads generally dry some rough.  I met no autos in country but one or two in town.  Too cool for driving much.  Muggs  felt poorly all day but she is determined to start for Jefferson City, MO in morn.  Friday (scratched out) is Father's birthday.*  Tomorrow grandmother's.**  Go bed 8.30

S.W>1.  Heavy w.fr.  Muggs and Tue getting ready for trip and go to Mattoon on 10.15 car to  take train that does not stop here.  I hitch up early but could not help them much.  Grace Sefton called after they had gone as did Dora Alexander.  Muggs is to take near noon train at Mattoon and will meet Miss Wales in St. Louis.  Charley Smith came and chored. (er)  Tue got home on 1 oc. car and went up town till dark.  Self poorly all day.  We were alone at night.  Tue let her dishes go till morning.  We were alone evening.  It seems dull without Muggs.  Go bed. 8 P.M.  Shave self P.M.

Clear S.2.  First real heavy frost:  ice 1/3 in.  tub.  Had thoughts of going to ranch.  Too cold.  Shave early,  Bert's Helen called and Tue goes home with her on 11:45 car.  I did not hitch up till 4 P.M. and then drove out to Huffman's.  Tue returns on 5.30 car.  Grace was here to dinner, which had 2 P.M.  Mostly clear day with fresh to strong southerly wind.  Some cloudy toward night with signs of rain at sunset.  The roads are good ~ Grove's were over about time I hitched up.  Tue has engaged Mort to repair lot of little things.  Go bed 9

Very high southerly wind all day diminishing at night.  Mostly worked P.M. at odds and ends put broken glass in coal room &c.  I drove east of town to exercise mare.  Jim Turner drove piece with me going.  Merritt returning.  Having plenty feed keep mare in stable nowadays.  Tue over Groves at night.  Muggs has decided to accept MO posish at 85 and will leave about 15th.  Promise fair day for election tomorrow.  Gob 8.30

Mostly cloudy, S.2 general election day.  Taft, Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson running for president.  I voted the republican ticket.  Pet Dickens held mare.  Met Abbot and Steve Decker.  Light rain 11 A.M.  It began to rain about 11 AM and continued the day.  Grace Sefton here to dinner. R to 6 P..50  I did not go up town again  Maggie and grace went to Lelas to spend the night.  Muggs came home to bring dog.  After we retired.  Cloudy day light southwind.  Alfred did not come.  Drizzle rain much of night.  Go bed 9.

Cloudy. still raining S.1. R. to  7 a.30  Woodrow Wilson Dem was elected President.  Dunne for Governor   Nearly everything went democratic of course.  I did not hitch up till late P.M. and then drove up to Dicewoods looking for fungi.  Nothing appearing ~  came near getting caught in shower.  cloudy light rain at times Southwind becoming N. Cloudy N.3.  I drove over to see Jo Hatton.  He couldn't work.  Saw Mr. Fritz and Emmett will come tomorrow morn.  Cottingham and hand work at W.C. AM and again PM.  We have a slight  hitch when  go to move wash basin from Kitchen to W.C. but they  soon went to work again.  I drove E. up town late P.M.  they are scraping down the Westfield Road.  clear day ex. morn, light northwind  Gobed 9  Mrs. Gaines called 6 P.M. waiting for car.

Clear. W.2. Emmett came and worked all day in cellar ~ Cottingham and Fleming work most getting the job about finished.  I don't like the way it is done in the basement.  Tue went to R.C. Hill's.  Emmett quit at 5.30 and will return in morning.  High wind most of the day with high westerly wind.  Maggie gets letter from MO library and need not go until week after next.  Tue has recently had a letter from Mary Sayre  the first for several months.  reports Fahys folks going to Florida for winter.  Go bed 9.

Partly cloudy N. 1.  T & Muggs continue to iron.  I patch around painting W.C.  get lower half over two coats.  Tue attends R.C. at W.E. Millars P.M ~  Muggs went for nuts with friends P.M.  I drove  late P.M. as far as Sam  Walters and return 5.30. Tue was over at Grove's at night till 10.  Talk with Bill Campbell at night.  The roads are good getting dusty.   Find the mare has loss a shoe.  Grace Sefton called A.M. gave her some grated meal for her father who is no better.  Bill Scott didn't call although expected him.  Have promised to report as to trade on Perkins room tomorrow.  Mrs. Curd's brother at Shelbyville dropped dead two or three days ago.  Mare to Nickles.  Gobed 9.30

P.M.  Get hair cut at Brown's.  Ed Wiley there.  Grace Sefton  here to supper.  Maggie went home with her.  Mrs. Sefton not so well.  Mostly cloudy day with light southerly winds clears off after dark wind shifting to westerly.  The rain barely laid the dust.  I drove late P.M.  SW.  Gobed 8.30

Mostly cloudy.  S.2.  It began to rain 7 AM and continued to drizzle til P.M. (.45) meas. at 2 P.M.  Guy Anderson called AM and says will plaster the room tomorrow P.M.  I didn't hitch up til 3 P.M. drove out toward Al Latta's.  The roads are quite muddy and prospect of more rain.  There was much heavy thunder this morn with the rain.    Tue had  Alfred here P.M.  He did not do much.  John Parker called 5 P.M. and settle for P&P work at farm.  Pay check 60.40 in full and think quit.  Grace Sefton here to supper and Tue and Muggs went home with her until 10 P.M.    Took  mare to Nickles.  Gobed 9
