April 28-29, 1913 in Charleston, Illinois

1913

28.  Monday.  5.30 AM.  Ther.  42.  64.  50. = 52
Mostly cloudy. N.3.  Raw chilly morn and  did not hitch up till 3 PM.  Helen Ferrish came with George and stayed to dinner.  Mrs.  Grove was over AM.  She with Tue went over to see Mrs. Bell who is sick in bed.  I went up to Perkins lot PM.  Rennells have got old brick out.  I.HR. was there and. they were about to take last load.  I drove down to see Jackson at BPa & Co.  He will investigate the  mine prop proposition with some of the mine men.  Call and look at Oliver's (McCartys old) buggies finding nothing to suit me.  Emmett calls at night saying will go to work for me tomorrow.  Mostly clear day strong N. wind.  Buy knife at Oliver's .85 pd.  Go bed 9.30

29.  Tuesday.  5 AM.  Ther. 38.  72.  56.  = 55 1/3
Mostly clear.  May have been light frost. wind N.1.  Emmett came 7.  Took mare to Sibert to shoe behind.  Rhoda came to wash and works all day.  Emmett also worked all day.  Mowed and trimmed up yard and patched up sod in front.  I drove P.M. up to Dicewood but only went into Stodded woods looking fir Morels, found none.  Bob  Hill says they had fine mess Sunday.  Emmett finds large arvenies in barn which eat dinner.  Drive to Tp. line and round by Watsons.  Stop at Grave yard.  People have been mulilating trees on our lot cutting some and hitching others to.  I got home before 6P  Tue and Rhoda cleaning up stairs.  Tue works too hard and don't  feel pretty well at night.  Self feeling poorly.  Most clear day with moderate northeasterly winds.  Gobed 9.

April 23-25, 1913 in Charleston, Illinois

23.  Wednesday.  5 AM  Ther.  58.  78.  64. = 66 2/3
Mostly clear. S.3.  Emmett came before 7 finished fence repairs trims berries and other jobs AM.  Tue  got card from Muggs.  She arrived all right at Jeff City 10.30 P.M.  Rhoda came and washed, did part of ironing is sick.  Emmett trims trees &c. working all day and settle to date 4.50 check.  Has got to plant his potatoes tomorrow, will come again.  I work much of  P.M. helping Emmett.  Tue attends  prayer meet at night with Mrs. Brooks.  Mostly clear day with very high Southerly winds.  Gobed 9

24.  Thursday.  5 A.M.  Ther.  64.  78.  68.  = 70.
Cloudy.S.3.  I got early to go to Loxa but couldn't do so.  Oil  buggy.  I  began light rain 6 AM.  Tue got up 6:30.  I start Loxa 8 AM Light rain Drove me back home.  One Rennells says will take most of my old brick today or tomorrow.   Pick out  28 of my stone tomato plants into paper boxes.  They are very small yet.  Harman phones that Paul sick and has not been able to take posts to Loxa.  Get shave and hair cut and wash at Brown's P.M. pd. 50 cts. after which I start E. for drive on Ashmore road.  Too windy for me and return.  Tue went to picture show at C. Hat night.  Part cloudy day with sprinkles rain and threatening.  We are needing some rain.  The roads are getting dusty.  Weather Bureau predicts rain soon.  Gobed. 9.30.  Look at buggies at Bell and Bells.  I look at Mercantile seeing nothing I care for.

25.  Friday.  5 AM.  Ther.  54.  50.  48.  = 50 2/3
Cloudy N.1.  Begins light rain 5.30 and continued to drizle(sic)  much of day.  Tue working for function of RC at Balwares.  She left home before noon.  Jack and I ate dinner alone.  Frank Rennells calls and will take old brick on Perkins lot at 4.00  Stopped raining 5 P.M. meas. 6 P.M. .61.  I order bale straw and fresh oats.  I.B. was out of feed.  Did not hitch up.  Gobed 9.  Cloudy day north wind 1.

January 24, 1913 and 1888 in Charleston, Illinois

24.  Friday.  6.30 AM.  Ther.   34.  46.  34.  = 38.
Cloudy N.1.  Fred Cottingham calls with bill for plumbing &c. 75.88.  He calls again after dinner and pay him check.  He made small repair at W.C. P.M.  Tue went to R.C. at Dr. Iknyan's 2 P.M.  Helen Ferrish calls P.M.  but didn't stay long.  One Rennells son of Edmund came wanting to rent Loxa farm.  Roy did not come early as usual.  Part clear day variable winds.  Part cloudy day with moderate northerly winds.  Tue and Phebe attend show - Madame Sherry  at night.  Finn and Ora were to supper.  Gobed 9


1888

24.  Tuesday.  6.30 AM.  Ther  10.  31.  28.
Clear wind S.E.  Savely and McKee went to work at ties about 8 A.M. working  till 6 P.M.  Sam Goodrich and other fellow began at 9 we got up 4 set.  Comer men work from, 10 AM till 5.30 P.M.  I got pretty well tired out and went home after dark about sick.  Didn't sleep much last night on account of Tue and baby both complaining.  Bob Brown brought up 50 old posts fore which I pay him in full $1.00  Al. Prevo calls for flask which I promised him.  He and Caleb Ferris start for  Alabama tomorrow.  Ed Eastin told me to bring up my  note and he will pay balance due:  it is 1232 to date .  Got a  letter from L.G  Fract Ferndale California asking me for an affidavit in regard to disability.  Gobed 9 P.M.  Tue better.  Helen went home today has been  here since Sat Jany14.
