March 12-13, 1914 and 1889 in Charleston, Illinois

March 1914

12.  Thursday. 6.15   AM.  Ther.  20.  40.  34.   31 1/3
Clear.  N.1.  I spent bad night  with throat and stomach.  Thirty six years ago today we moved from Mrs. Norfolks house to the old house on this lot.  H.G.  brought  C.O. AM.  The birthday party came off all right with six guests all ladies.  Will Stoddert of Mott N.D. called a while.  He is farming up there.  He does not think much of machine plowing.  He starts home today.  Tue got home 5 P.M.  Bright clear day light  southerly winds.  I am dicting (sic) in eating.  I have good appetite for sick man and eat  too much.  Gb

13.  Friday.  6.30.  AM.  Ther.  30.  54.  42.  = 42.
Clear. SW.1. Sleep was no good last night night.  Tue  complaining of her back ; Rheumatiz.  We get letter from Buddy A.M.  Think throat some better.  Think JEM is weakening the booze slightly.  Tue went to R.C. P.M.  She took Harman check for corn to deposit at 2d 30.90.  I fix up one of his check books P.M.  Later shave - since 4th (?)  It was a bad case.  I am becoming too lazy to do anything.  Late PM I walk round place awhile.  the snow has mostly disappeared,  but frost not all out except spots.  Think will get mare tomorrow.  Tue got home 6 P.M.  Clear day moderate SW wind:  the warmest day since Jan 29 when it was 60.  Gobed 9  Tue sends  package , shawl,  to Muggs and one to Phebe P.P.

March 1889

12.  Tuesday.  6 AM.  Ther.  36.  63.  46.  =  48.
Clear and pleasant, considerable (?).  Boys got  to work before 7. R & S did not come.  Stretching the two reels of wire closed gaps and got in good start on the fence from the corner W.    Warren brought teams and hauled out several loads of  plank and posts.  Pleasant day SW wind.  Gobed 9 P.M.

13.  Wednesday.  5.30 AM :   Ther.  40.  64.  54.  =  52
Fair, looked like thunder shower in P.M.  Bob and I  went over to S. side to stack a lot of ties.  Rutherford has moved out of house and Kink is staying there a lone making his .  count up 30 more for him.  Bob hauls us out lumber and posts  and boys work at fence.  R. and S. came after noon and work at clearing out road.  I start home about 4 P.M.  Found Tue about sick with bad cold which she has had for several days.  Go bed 9 P.M.

July 24 - 25, 1888 and 1913 in Charleston, Illinois

1913

24.  Thursday.  5.30  AM.  Ther.  72.  86.  72.  =  76 2/3
Cloudy. N.1.  Rhoda came and washed and ironed till 2 P.M.  Pd ck 1.00  Self not very well.  My side doesn't trouble much but appetite has failed.  4.30 P.M. drove to Gee bridge to soak old buggy M. Replogle &co seining there.  I return via  Wrights home 6.30.  Tue went to Hat's the girls went for her 9 oc.  Mostly clear day with moderate N.E. wind.  gobed 9.30

25.  Friday  5.30 AM.  Ther.  56.  86.  74.  = 72.
Clear N.E.2.  Normal Summer School closed today.  I drove AM E. to River near Big Four bridge.  The river at old Ashmore ford nearly dry.  Very few oats fit to cut E. of town, corn looking badly is (?) in many fields.  Toward night I drove out to Cemetery.  Many fruit trees are dying.  Muggs not very well.  Consults Dr. Starr.  Phebe at supper at Fern's.  Tue Grove's at night.  Clear day light easterly  winds.  gobed 10.

1888

24.  Tuesday.  6.45 AM.  Ther.  70.  83.  68.  
About clear.  Got shave at May's Shop, also hair cut owe him 35 c.   Tue and self drove out to Uncle John's toward night taking him a little grub, cooler day go bed 9 P.M.

25.  Wednesday.  5.30  A.M.  Ther.  70.  88.  72.
Went out to  Berts in forenoon getting back about noon.  Met him on road.  Took Mare to John Rice P.M. to shoe in front.  Pay WE Hill for some butter got there yesterday.  Gobed 10 P.M.

1913

12.  Wednesday.  6.15 AM.  Ther.  36.  64.  54.  =  51 1/3
Clear S.E.2.  Big white frost no ice.  Tue expected her roomers to leave today but Dr. has ordered him to stay another week.  Burn up the trash in basement A.M.  Tue got letter from  Phebe.  She had not recd. my letter of  Sunday.  Rhoda  came to wash about 11 AM. finishing  3 P.M.  Helen Ferrish came in after dinner.  She and Tue went uptown.  I hitch up 3 P.M. and later drove out to cemetery  for exercise.  Much cloudy day S.3.  The roads worse if possible.  Tue went prayer meet night good   10 PM

1888

12.  Monday.  6 AM.  Ther.  22.  37.  31.
About clear wind N.E. and fresh.  Tue made fire again this morning.  Chilly day with fresh easterly wind. clouds up at night and feels like rain.  Went uptown before dinner but felt bad all day and remained at home the rest of day.  Maggie has got through second reader and I bought her the third today.  Gobed 9 PM.
