August 28-29, 1912 in Charleston, IL

28.  Wednesday.  6 AM.  Ther.  60  90.  80. =76 2/3
Most clear S.3.  I rubbed R with new remedy last night.  I hitch up but did not feel able to drive much.  Find not so well as I had thought but have pretty good appetite.  Harman came in AM giving me check for my half of oats 1837 1/2 bu on 60 acres @ 25c.  He stated that there would be more for some damaged which he took un-threshed.  Wants to cut second crop for seed.  Tue gets letters from Muggs and Marie.  Both arrived safely at destinations.  Tue called on Mrs. Curd P.M.  I drove down to Grimes corner to water mare P.M.  Am trying to kill the fleas on Jack and he seems better.  Self feel quite poorly.  Have quit taking Starrs meddy. Tue and Mrs. Brooks attend P. meet at night.  Mostly clear day clouding up by night, light rain(.02) and great amount of lightning.  The electrical display lasted most of the night.  Go bed 9.00 P

29.  Thursday.  6 AM.  Ther.  68.  92.  74. = 78.
Part cloudy, SW. 2.  There were lightning and thunder much of night.  We were married 35 years yesterday.  I went up for shave, Brown's , after breakfast today.  settle 30c.  Met Andy Moon at shop;pay him my share partition flood gate 2.14.Ask permish for LaFayette commissioners  to join road line of tile to line to branch which grant.  Rhoda washing.  Harman phones that need more lumber out there., while I away promises to phone same move but didn't.
My trouble not so bad today except for the heat which nearly prostrates me.  Clear day with light SE to NE. winds, heat oppressive.  I hitch up toward night and drive to Fritzs but could not see him.  Tue up to band concert at night.  Go bed 9 P.M.  Mare to Nickles.

Thursday, July 4, 1912  5.30 A.M.  Ther.  70.  90.  78. = 79 1/3
Cloudy.  S. 2.  Thunder, say 2 A.M. shower early morn (.20)  I oil buggy and hitch up early intending to go to country perhaps  to ranch.  It clears off before noon but I did not go off the place on account  so much firing.  It continues till 9 P.M. or later.  the crowd would have been larger with pleasant day.   Helen and children were in P.M. remaining to supper aug the fire works which touched off at the bridge on 4th St.  Tue went over to fireworks.  I work an hour or so in dark rounding up mare.  Mostly clear day with little air.  Go bed 10 P.M.

Monday, July 4, 1887  6AM.  Ther.  76.  90.  75.  
Cloudy.  Fix stove pipe in woodhouse.  Mrs. Laind washed forenoon.  Hat down a while A.M.  It rained quite a while in the night very slowly.  Kate Myers stays to dinner and most of P.M.  Rails called after dinner wants me to go down to farm with him tomorrow.  Celebration out at Fairgrounds, didn't  go out.  Father, Tue and girls went  up to see fireworks at night leaving me with baby.  Old Mr. Eastin got home this morning from Dakota.  Kate Davis was over while in P.M.  Gobed 10 P.M.  Light shower about noon.  Mostly clear day wind SW.
