January 8-20, 1902 in Charleston, IL (Highlights)

8.  Wednesday, 630 AM.  Ther  32.  51.  40.  =  41
Part cloudy.  Southwind.  Pete came 7.45 A.M;  we hitch up gray horse (Warren) and ride nearly to the  the river on Ashmore Road.    She drives alright.  Change for Queen and go over to Col's house.  McClaskeys still  have possession of farm.  Pete and I (?) on shop door  shop door at H.G.s.  Self toothache  Gobed  730 PM

9.  Thursday, 6.30 AM.  Ther.
Poultry Ass has big big show.  Bacon on hand.  He had a good scare on R.R. crossing PM just messing limited train.

10.  Friday.
Gray horse loose in barn all night.  Tue neuralgia all day and night.

11.  Saturday.  

12.  Sunday
Tue stays in bed all day with neuralgia.  Put in much of day keeping house warm.  Our coal is more than half gone.    Chas Love wants to rent H.G. house..  I did not hitch up today.  They are graveling roads a good deal North and East of Charleston.  Ferd here at night, also last night.  Girls went to  went to church.  I read till  9 oc.
am.  
13.  Monday.  6 AM.  Ther  7.  27.  19.
Tue still sick with neuralgia and slept but little last night.  She is in south chamber. Shave at Ed Browns AM Paying him in full 25c.  Tue did not get up today and sent for Dr. Patton at night.   He came left meddy.  Tue keeping a/c of provision &c bought.  

14.  Tuesday.
Tue feeling some easier but kept bed all day.  Circut court in session.  Hanley and Daugherty case being tried for fourth time.  The Col. went to work for Shoots yesterday and quiet  on a/c of his health.  Tue sleeps in south room with Marie  Gobed 9 P.M.  

15.  Wednesday.  6 AM.
Tue  about same Does not get much sleep.  Bill Scott calls two or three times to see about renting H.Gs place for Tom Trimble.  Phone send for Dr. Patton again toward night.   Tue still sleeps south room.

16.  Thursday.
Mrs. Handley  in case against Daugherty  got $50.00 Damage.  Tue feeling some better but remains in bed.    Trimble moves into H.G's house PM.  They caught a forger, he ha been passing checks round town.  

17.  Friday.
Tue came down to breakfast. first time since last since last Saturday.  Called to see Tom Tremble P.M.  He thinks pump will need fixing.  Will Goodman kicking about  5th St. being filled up between Van and Jackson.  Van B. also nearly impassible bet 5th and 6th.   I finish reading Felix Grass  The Terror.

18.  Saturday.
Dr. Blair died this morning suddenly 7 AM.  Tue was up all day but doesn't feel very well.

19.  Sunday, 
Tue not feeling well this morning.  Phebe to Paris with friend.

20.  Monday
Tue still feeling puny, but is round at work.  Love boys undertake to carry wood into cellar towards night but don't finish.  Tue sends $5.00 cash to Maggie in letter.  Tue feeling badly all day and at night but did not decide to call in Dr.

22.  Saturday.  5.30  AM.  ther.  56.  74.  60.  =  63 1/3
Cloudy.  There was sp rain sometime in night.  Get shave and "trimmed at Browns AM.  Pd 25 c. and went to Nickles and get my rig.  Show lines to Al. Frommel.  Maggie having worry about one Calhoun at Library.  Tue  went to Loxa on 2 P car to meet Irene at Dora's.  I went to Tates to try coat of suit he is making for me.  He sent home one pair pants. Emmett will come Monday Morn.  Mrs. H called night also Grace Sefton.   Buy 25c. corn at old Mill.  Mostly clear day moderate northerly wind.  Gobed 9.30  I drove S PM return by Wrights.

23.  Sunday,  6 AM.  ther.  56.  72.  64.  =  64.
today early southerly wind 3.  Get mare about 9 A. thinking to go to Loxa.  Start by timber route but too threatening and return by Helen's getting just in time for shower.  Light rain much of P.M. only (.12) in. gloomy, mostly cloudy day.  My mouth worse than ever, will have to quit chewing tobacco and other things.  Tue went to  Hat's P.M. and to church at night.  Gobed 9

24.  Monday.  5.30 AM.  Ther.  62.  82.  64.  =  69 1/3
Mostly cloudy. N.W.3.  Mabel came 7 A, she has been sick gone since last Sunday noon.  Emmett comes 7 A to mow yard &c.  Drove round town while before noon.  Order CO of Tierney AM,  Jo Bill called after dinner.  He works on Loxa section of big four R.R.  Drive  out to cemetery with Emmett.  He cut the grass on ours and Snider lots.  Stop at fairground on return hunting for mushrooms Didn't find any.  Harman phones will have to replant much of his B.C.  Tue over at Brooks at night.  Part cloudy NW Gobed 9.30

25.  Tuesday 5:15 AM.  Ther.  Ther.  60.  76.  66.  =  67 1/3
Clear S.E. 3.  Start Loxa about 8 a.  Didn't take Jack nor dinner.  Drive through Loxa.  found Harman and Jack Peterson replanting BC 19 a. south 1/2 side of NW 40.  Later sow Shrieves just finishing his 27 ps corn.  Distant thunder warned me to start home at once.  The storm caught me at fairground and I got pretty wet before I reached home.  Much  and heavy thunder.  the barn at old Jesse Veach place was struck by light and burned.  Rain ceased about time I got home at say 1 P.  Much wind with rain.  C.O. came PM.  think caught a little cold.  Tue and  Phebe went to movies.  Maggie at Library.  Mabel did not attend church as intended.  Mostly cloudy day S.E. to southerly wind .85 in rain between 12 and 1 P.M.  Heavy rains in night with thunder and wind.  Gobed 9

26.  Wednesday.  5.45. AM.  Ther.  64.  74.  56.  =  64 2/3
Cloudy light rain which continue.  Mrs. H. came to wash.  Italy entered the war this week.  Heavy rain much of AM.  Mostly cloudy A.M.  Sun appeared once or twice cloudy AM.  Sun appeared once or twice.  I did not get out.  Harman called late P.M.  Mabel went home.  Tue and girls went to movies at night.  they are finding many fungi, mostly Caprineo micoceus  mostly cloudy, easterly winds.  Gobed 9

27.  Thursday.  5.30  AM.  Ther  48.  70.  60.  =  59 1/3
Cloudy. E.3.  Still raining from in night wind E.3.  Cool day and mostly cloudy no rain after 9 a, I get mare 2 P. driving to N. Park and south.  Get caught in quite a shower at W.ville.  Look much for mushrooms but didn't find any.  Tom Knock rode with me home from Normal.  Had been hunting.  Phebe went to France's at night.  Tue to Grove's  Muggs and Mabel making rag rugs.  Gobed 9.30.

28.  Friday.  5.30  AM.  Ther.  60.  76.  60.  65 1/3.
Cloudy E.3.  There was light rain in night.  Flowers this morn.(.63) we are getting too much of it.  Get mare 10 A.  Get shave at Ed Browns. paid.  Took Mable home P.M. returning her later.  Met Arthur H.  The roads are very muddy, fields often covered with water. mud is everywhere.  Get home 5 P.M.  Maggie and Phebe expecting to go to Chicago Sunday to buy some things.  I had accident P.M. with booze got strangled and got it "up my snout,"  it disabled me for several hours.  Mushrooms not appearing to any  extent.  Mostly cloudy E. to S. winds light showers.  Heavy rains in night.  Gobed 9
