Clear or nearly so SE wind  Start for  woods 8 AM.  Investigate supply of posts on ridge W. of W. Decker.  Count up sheep, thought had lost some of them  get home at dark   gobed 9 PM.

9.  Monday.  6.30 AM.  64.  84.  68 =  72

Cloudy.  Mrs. Rogers washed and ironed.  Tue not very well.  Drake hauls up load of posts and moves 8 ft. posts.   Sam Adams takes boards and pays for them.  Crass helps all day.  Took Mare again to Montgomery's house.  Go bed  11 P.M.

Clear easterly wind  Drive to Mrs. Owens after breakfast but couldn't get her so Tue does the work herself.  Miss Ford expected Sunday.  Johnny Decker in town perhaps for last time as he has with his family started for the "Nation."  I drove out west of town to see them.  Shirley came in with balance of B.C. 3 loads.  98 bales weighed 29070 lbs. @ 82.50 per ton  My share  ( one third) came to 399.71 which deposit  at State Bank Corn not well baled.  Shirley had, he says 38 AM.  Armstrong not yet sold.  I drove out to Gaines about 3 PM.  Jo not at hand working and in Broom  Corn.  Get some corn, tomatoes and eggs getting home 8 P.M. by lower road.  Sick at night think form eating soup.  Ferd was at our house in afternoon  Has left his father and intends going east.  Helen and Louise left  but went back    Heard that Bert got home from Dakota  Mostly clear day with light northerly wind  Gobed 8.30  P.M.~

Partly cloudy, Old Mare loose last night and ate most of corn I got yesterday about  15 ears.  Drive her today.    Starting for Simons 9.30 AM.  Ate dinner there.  John and I went down to mill yard before dinner out afterward went over to corn field.  He will bring me load of corn Tuesday.  Very sultry day and I start home early because could not get cooled off.  Ode Eastin rode to town with me.  Queen about played out when I got home.  Hitch up Roan and drive with  Tue out to G. Linder place getting home 8 P.M.  Miss Ford* came today.  Normal begins Tuesday.  Gobed 8.30 PM.

*  Ellen Ford, (1865- 1948) came to Eastern in 1900 and was there until 1934.  .  Miss Ford had a Masters of Arts degree in Latin from Syracuse University,  1894.  In  1921, she was instrumental in the reorganization of the Normal School to a teachers college.  Ford Hall was named after Ellen Ford.

Cloudy.  N.W. 1. fog.  I feel poorly.  Drive down to see Ad Miller finding him west of Normal.  Says get lime &c to Loxa and he will fix flue.  No fungi appearing.  Mort begins after dinner repairing front porch.  Watch him til 3 oc. when drive to Dicewood.  Nothing there doing.  I get home 5.30 Helen H. gets here about 6.  Mort had made a fluke in the posts.  Most clear day.  S2.  Gobed 9

Part Cloudy.  Mort worked alll day  day at porch but nowhere near done.  Harman says has plowed 17  A to date,Phones that  will begin cutting B.C. afternoon.  Bert Bennett gang is cutting it.  I  drove over to Hatton's Am. but not at home.  Tue worrying about H.H.  Jo Watkins rode  out a piece with me on way home.   He lives down near "Slab".  Shave self late P.M.  Part cloudy day.  South to westerly moderate winds.  Gobed 9P

Min.40 on 22d.  Rain on 10 days 2.92 - .60 on 11th 1.51 on 15th and .43 on 17th other days light or only trace  Cloudiness 41 per ct.: Winds - N.4; NE 5 1/3 - E 4 1/3 - SE 21/3 S 8 1/3~ SW 1 2/3 W 1 1/3  and NW 2 2/3 days.  Rain about middle of month broke the long drouth but too late to help corn much  It has started pasture wheat and weeds.  Corn at stores 80 Eggs 30  Butter 35. Oats 50.  all kinds of meat am high.  Steak beef or pork costs 20 to 25.  There was a touch of frost in places on 22nd.  Saw it at farm but not in town.

Clear.  Start for timber with girls at 9 AM.  Help them gather hazelnuts tell noon but over to S. side after dinner.  Got price lists of seed from A. Dickenson Co. and Robert Seed Co.  We answer to letters written several days ago.   Four men at work today on middle ridge.  Tue and father put up kitchen stove today.  We get home at 6.30 pretty tired.  W. Decker says he will begin Monday to haul out wood rails &c from ground now cleared.  Have not yet decided not to put  in wheat.  Gobed 10 PM

Clear.  Girls got to S.S. and church.  Stormy S.W. wind gust.  Have (?) light frost.  Pleasant day.  Miss Kemayer  down toward night to say that one of the front windows was broken last night.  Go bed 9 P.M.

Clear.  N.8.  White Frost.  No ice.  Ray did not come as expected and had to carry up coal ourselves.  Look over some old papers &c. A.M.  Tue went over plantsthing(sic) me what she didn't want me to do.  I got my mare 10 A.M.  but did not use her till after dinner. 1.30 P.M.   start out to settle with some of my  creditors.  Mare too foxy so don't drive near the depot.  Met Al Latta cor Div. and Madison where he has rooms.  I drove out by fairground up by John R. Hills to town there west to  Popham road then south to R.R. and home.  Most of the farmers up that way are clearing out their pastures especially buck brush.   Note  Dr. Pattons, Sodderts and Popham's.  They have cut most of trees and brush and plowed the ground.  We get another letter from tenant Oakley at Loxa needing repairs &c.  on house.  Order balehay (sic) bu oats from I.B.M. P.M.  Have had mare at Nickles service last Thursday night.  Gob 8.30

Clear and  pleasant day.  Driving round 4th ward in forenoon trying to connect up hold list.    Good many in town P.M.  Bert called while eating dinner.  Pay Rutherford 1.25 PM.  W. Decker 9.45 for wood cut @ 60.  Still owe him 6.00 (?) having cut 40 3/4 cord.  Comer in wants me to come down and divide lumber.  The "Citizens" convention in 1st. ward nominate W.H. French to run against M. White Rep.   Politics talked a good deal on streets today.  Went up to French Davis office at night to take poll book.  Settle with Bill Meyers for ham bought last week.  Meyers says he will work Monday.  Talk for license a good deal mixed .  Go bed 10 PM.

Cloudy or foggy.  Mrs. Rogers comes to wash at 8 A.M.  Baby seems better this morning but  Tue sends for Dr. Patton who came about noon.  Settle with Case apple a/c P.M.   Mrs. Norfolk calls me in telling me to send Mrs. Terman load of wood.  Gave bill lumber provided City last month to H.G. 2000 ft. $30.00.  Jim Driscoll goes up with load of lumber from mill.  Jack Fayan calls on me toward night.    Phebe did not go to school today.  She slept till after 9 A.M.  Cloudy all day and thawing a little wind Easterly.   Gobed 9 P.M.

Cloudy.  Baby seems better this morning.  Receives draft from  J&L&B for 618.80 in full.  Mrs. Feagan called in morning,  "settle" with John Armstrong P.M.  Mrs. Shaw is very sick.  John Roberts was buried this morning.  Cloudy all day wind easterly.  Tue has headache bad at night.  Go bed 11 P.M.  W. Decker agrees to cut 20 cord good wood @ .60.

Cloudy, misty wind NE.  Maggie and Phebe both went to school.  Mrs. Rogers irons.  Look up act. at Christers and Chambers.  Sell Jim Pernnell 205 ft, sheet @ 75c.  Milt Drake and Johnson up from timber.   Milt pays me $1.00 for wood sold.  Baby not feeling very well.  Tue thinks may be taking Whooping Cough.  Talk of sending for Dr. at night but decide not to.  Dark Damp Day with NE. wind.  The roads are still good and Bob Brown brought up a load of lumber.  Dr. called at night for paper.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Cloudy.  raining about day light.  Wes Caylen brings me a half a cord of wood.  I sent Mrs. Lusman a third of cord a day or two ago.  Baby seems better this morning, she coughs a good deal in night, but does not "whoop" any.  Comer and gang are up and pay him 50.00.  Settle  with Ginthers in full $12.60 - 3.00  with Geo Chambers  $43.90 -3.00 and with Messick and Gray 11.93 all in full.  Get city order for lumber last month  $30.00 which deposit.  Snider called P.M.  Mrs. Davis and Paul over in the evening.  Dark damp day, misty.  Snow in afternoon, wind NW.  Gotobed 10 PM.

Clear.  Light frost last night,  Mrs D. irons.  Ill Comer has a suit before  Jr. Patontay  Saw Uncle John, says  I cam take mare out to Hawkins place to keep.  W. Decker, calls to say that Ezekiel Easton will help him finish hauling wood.  Tue works to hard and gets  more cold.  Hat was down in P.M.  Mrs. Norfolk is very sick has been for sometime, with rhuematism.  got quotation of front from Dorsey today.  Buy veal 20 Cencaline .20. Gobed 9 PM

Clear northerly wind..  Tue decided to do ironing herself again.  May Johnson went home today.  Saw Comer up town.  Think will get mill to running next week.  Hat and friend call in afternoon.  get note from Laggart saying he wants a load of of wood at once.  Baby cried very much today.  Kate Davis over while P.M.  Pleasant day and clear.  Gobed 10 PM.


20.  Saturday  6 AM.  Ther.67.  91.  76.
Clear.  Pick up and put away newspapers.  Drove out to meet W. Decker who took a load wood to Laggart.  Uncle John down to dinner.   Rest up stuff for J.O.W. but forgot it.  He left  without it.  Young came about 1.30 made a botch job of it.  Ladder.  Nickolson paid 12.00 for my old buggy.  Tue finished ironing.  Fan was here part of P.M.  Went home just before night.  Dark cloud from NW before sunset but didn't rain.  Mrs. Davis was over a while at night.  Comer was up town but I didn't see much of him.  gobed 10 P.M.

Partly cloudy.  NW wind.  Went up town in morning.  See Geo.   Webens who gave me some cigars.  Tue not very well.  Complain of toothache and headache.  Warm morning cloudy most of P.M. and somewhat cooler.  Took drive with Tue (leaving baby with W.S.G.) down  by hog farm and out by fair ground, getting back before dark.    Girls spent afternoon at Davis'.  Sprinkle  rain at night.  Go bed  9 P.M.

Partly cloudy.  S.W.2.  Mare was feeding on library lot when I got up.  She jumped pasture fence..  McNeel says will begin on furnace next Monday and finish it.  Saw J. Simons up town, says John and Halley will cut and haul my posts at 35 per.  I may go down there tomorrow weather favorable.  Today one of ht days, sultry.  Thundershower 4 PM (.10)  more at night (2.7) and very threatening from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M.  I took my horse to Nickles at night with some intention of visiting  ranch tomorrow.  It was too hot for self to move much.  Go bed. 9.30. 

Sunday, July 14,1912,   6 A.M.    Ther.  68.  92.  82.

Mostly Cloudy  SW.2  I had  intended to go to ranch today but weather too uncertain.  The wind NW early and cloudy, but it became hot quickly.  I drove  to E. part town for bread got R.H. paper and then drive to woods east looking for fungi.  There were many coming but too hot for me to move round in woods:  got a mess of Chanterelle but they prove full of worms.  some fellows down there picking raspberries in the woods.  I got home before noon and remain there the rest of the day.  Mort and Kate over P.M.  I drove down for ice late P.M.  Tue over to Mrs. Leroys at night.  I consult J H Marshall about Sexton Fence.  This perhaps hottest to date.  Most clear day after 10 A  Gobed 10.30 P.M.  Mare to Nickles.

Wednesday, July 13, 1887,  6 AM.  Ther.  75.  101.  79

Clear.    Got paper from Geneva notice of Frank Ansley's* marriage.   Gave W. Decker order to sell E. Easton 8 cords of wood on ground.  Tue undertakes to do the washing and gets pretty well used up.  I got the dinner and helped a little.  Ruth Davis over  most of afternoon playing the girls.  Baby not  very well and pretty cross.  This has been  the hottest day this summer.  Got letter from  Uri at Mattoon think can get a room there and advises me to do so.  Clear day wind southerly some cloudy P.M.  Pay Tom Hutton 2.00   an old a/c had forgotten.    Gobed 10 P.M.

Clear.  Ther. upstairs last night stood at 88 where 78 downstairs.  Fix up hose and water new strawberry bed.  Sort over papers at stove after dinner.  Alarm of fire about 4 P.M.  Clayton Stables.  Clear  AM some clouds PM.  Bim in town toward night.  H.G. says they will want posts to put round the square pretty soon.  Too hot for  any kind of work and terribly dry.  Go bed 10 P.M.  tue and children selpt down stairs.

Clear. S. 2.  Tue slept in N. Room and did not rise early.   She  and Phebe iron much of AM.  Tell Harvey twice more to come and fix furnace.  I drove SW of town a mile or two looking for fungi.  I did not  get any.  Mostly clear day and  one of of the warmest this summer.  Tue  over at Groves at night.  H a  letter from Muggs this morning.  Oats are turning and will be in the harvest next week.  We have heard nothing from Kate who left us over two weeks ago.  Go bed 9.30

Some cloudy.  Mrs. Chanceller "borrows"  water to wash with.  Tue finishes blue dresses for girls.  Pay Comer  83.48  owe him on city bill 100.00.  Pay W. Decker 10.00 on wood hauling, pay Moffett a/c 3.30.  Buy gal B. Berries at Mitchells.  Uncle John and Bim in PM.  Says my mare has injured one of his best horses badly.  Walk down  to Depot and round by gas well toward night.  Very warm mostly strong NW wind.  Tue went  up to  Davis  at night.  Go bed 10 P.M.
