Part cloudy, S.3.  the continues taking "Colche Sal" and  thinks it helps her.  Bill  came at 7 A and went to work.  Took out ashes.  Takes kindling to cellar; clears off garden place where old house stood.  Helped me hitch up.  I intended  going to Loxa but light rain early stops me.  Bill quit about 1.30 on account of the rain.  Put up mare late.  It rained all PM.  Learn that Frank Alexander and Emma Knock are dead.  Both have been sick a long time.  Tue at Grove's at night til late  Gob 9.30

Cloudy N.E. 3  It rained all night.  Meas. 7 AM (1.01) in. and rain continues from N.E.  Have to warm up house AM although rather short on fuel.  Bill H. called AM and Pay him up to date check 1.60.  Grows colder A.M.  Ther. falling to 40.  It quit raining about 2 PM.  Tue went to Aid Society meet also to vote.  I went up  to vote at 3 PM.   We are so near out of  coal we don't keep hous(sic) very warm and decide to order load in morn.  Cloudy with rain all day till about 2 P.M.  Strong northerly wind.  Gobed 9

Clear N. wind hard frost ice forming over 1/4 in thick in open air.  Abbott came and spaded east end of raspberry  patch.  Uncle John in P.M. he sold the white cow for 26.00 and gave the money to Tue.  Deposit same to her a/c.  Miss K. paid her rent does not like  counter I got for her.  Rep. City Convention today clear cool N. wind gobed 10 PM  Got new pair pants at Winters 7,oo.

Clear Easterly wind.  After dinner at 2.30 went out  to Uncle John's.  Found Snider there after a horse which was just what I was figuring on~ didn't mention it though.  got home after sunset getting very dry  roads good still  some what rough grass not growing much. Uncle John sold the white cow to Dorsch, am feeding her til Monday.  He said he had another cow we could have soon.  gobed 10 PM  clear day

Clear S.W. 1.  Hoden was in AM.  Settle for butter and eggs Since last Feb. Ck. 6.50.  Tues finishes fixing an old rug for Buddy.  Tue  attends Aid meet at McCravys P.M.  Fern N; helping Phebe with dress most of day.  I drove E. to Alexander woods. late P.M.  there is  nothing doing in the  woods.  Got home about 7.  Mostly clear day.  Heavy clear day.  Heavy cloud from northerly at 8 P.M. with lots of wind and dust No rain but good deal of thunder.  a light shower later in night.  .o5.  Gobed 9.30.

9.  Wednesday.  5.30  AM.  Ther.  72.  94.  78.  =  81 1/3
Mostly clear.  S.W.2.  Rhoda comes to wash, working till 3 P.M.  Get shave A.M. pd.  Later hitch up and drive up town.  Pay E. Light bill for June 1.89 ck.  Perry Grove has recently resigned his posish with Public Service Co.  I got jag of corn of I.B.M. yest.  they pay 65 and sell @ 75c.  I drove N.E. P.M.  going N. on Anderson road and returning by Ashmore road corn look well up that way- No corn firing as yet.  I got home 7.30  Part Cloud day Showers S.E. P.M.  Heavy thunder in that direction about  3 oclock.  wind northerly at night and cleared off.  Go bed 9.30.

Clear. N.E.2.  another change in weather without rain.  Tue goes up later.  I get start to Loxa 9 A.M. going through to farm which look over pretty well.  Cliff at work in B.C. south of house with five teams.  Talk with him while.  Paul and Mr. Cox both sick.  He has four hands hired in  field. has cut say ten acres oats.  Asks me to  send Abbott out - which I did P.M.  Return through Loxa getting home say 1 P.M.getting sheaf oats.  Met Zeke Gilbert.  Toward night drove round by Siberts: he will shoe horse  &c in  morn.  Saw Abbott: Says will go out in morn.  Says Jo Bill now working for Interurban.  Clear day with a steady N.E. whirlwinds.  Lighter at night.  There is no running water in Cossell Creek.  All streams are going dry.  Plenty of water at head wall Loxa Branch.  Tue  and Phebe were up to  hear band in evening.  Fern here during day working with Phebe.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Clear.  N.E. 2.  Tue got letter from Muggs yesterday:  says will be home Saturday.  Got mare shod in front AM.  at Siberts on 7th St.  Cr,  They came for her and return her when shod. Get good steak at Dorsch's.  S. Emmett helping him put up hay.  Clouds up light shower about 1 P.M. with thunder.  More light showers in night.  Order of I.B. late P.M. bu oats and bale threshed timothy which they deliver.  I drove late down Myers house through Wrightsville getting home after 6.  Part cloudy day Strong southwind P.M.  Go bed 9.30.

Cloudy early W.4.  Strong southerly wind all night with light dashes of rain - Not enough to do any good.  I drove S.E. nearly to river AM looking for chickens.  Didn't find any.  I got home noon finding Muggs here, sooner than she expected.  She has four weeks vacation.  Grace and Fern here P.M.  Mostly clear day with high westerly winds.  Old man McGaham died yesterday.  Learn that Sam McPheron is dead at Mattoon.  Tue and girls went up town a while at night.  I  have had bad pain in right side for week.  It worries me.  Got buttermilk at Creamery.  Gobed 10 P

Clear mostly S.W. 3.  Hitch up early.  Tue and girls sleep till about 8.  Tue attends church morning.  Shave self AM.  Had intended to go to ranch or elsewhere AM. but proves to be too hot about 5 P.M.  drove to ice plant for ice and later took drive down by Woodson place.  Corn looks well in spite of the drouth.  I got home 7.30  Roads dry and dusty.  Little signs of rain.  Mostly clear day with strong SW wind.  Go bed 10 P.M.

Cloudy and very threatening.  Heavy black cloud approaching from N.E.  It yielded little rain (05)  The rheumatism in right side which has annoyed me for a week or two so much worse today that keep pretty still.  Toward night I drove SW getting home 8 P.M.  I got three chickens at Louis Songer's 1.00 check.  Part cloudy and threatening but no rain here except sprinkle in morn.  The  corn Emmett planted is up two or three inches.  Corn in country looking well.  Part clear S.W.3.  Go bed 10 PM.

Cloudy with thunder S.2. Sp. rain 6 P.M. .03.  The pain in my side gets worse.  I did not hitch today on account of heat.  Didn't go up town.  Sat in buggy in barnyard much of P.M. reading.  The heat very oppressive.  No rain although cloudy and threatening late P.M.  This drouth is pretty general in the middle West.  Sat with Tue, Muggs and Phebe on hillside after supper.  Wish Buddy was here.  Mosquitoes still pretty bad.  Jack dog something in his throat.  Gobed 9.30 P.  Tue sends box to Buddy Express.

Part cloudy.  W.1.  Phone I.E.Mc C.O. booze which went and got A.M.  Emmett working for Dorsch near Interurban.  Will work for me Monday.  Hatton went to Loxa on first car and fixes up privy.  Pay him as agreed 3.00 P.M.  H.F.H. called A.M.  I feel very poorly and keep round house most of day.  Hottest day to date.  Farmers are discouraged.  The drouth is burning up the crops. Gardens go with the rest.  Mostly clear.  Some cloudy P.M. Some lightning at night.  Tue get hat and letter also birthday sox from Phebe.  She will be home in about a week.  Go bed 9.30 PM.  Get bale straw.  I.B.M. late P.M.

The Weather for May 1912  (He put the wrong year).  Average daily  .66.8:Max 96 on 31st;  Min. 36 on 10th.  Clouds 39%  Percipitation .51 in.  Mostly  .31 on 26th.  Prevailing winds N. 41/3;  NE 2 2/3;  E 1/3; SE 3;  S .7 2/3;  SW .5 2/3; W. 2 2/3, and NW. 4 2/3 days.  It was pretty dry first of month only half inch of rain drying this month has developed one of worst drouths of late years.  Nothing seems to be growing excepting the trees.  The largest corn is but 3 or 4 in.  Much of corn not yet up.  Oats and meadows will be very light even with plenty of rain.  Pastures  getting very dry.

Partly cloudy.  Start for  timber with Kelly about 7 AM.  getting there at 8.30.  Work all day at fence.  Riley Eastin works with us P.M. and will help next week.  Caught seven curculios on plum trees this morning which are the first except one a week or two ago.  Very few of the plums have been stung as yet and hope the season for curculia is about over.  Got home from  timber about 8 AM.  get letter form Cottedon stating that will have to obtain license in order to close out my stocks of liquor  and no rebate is allowed on stamps.  Paid Re(?) order no. 58 on N.McMorris.  Go bed 10 PM.

Clear.  N.1. white frost.  Ice 5/8 in. tub.  I neglected to build  up fire in furnace at night and did not sleep after 3 A.M.    I did  not put on much style for breakfast except biscuit   they were not stylish.  Ray came as promised and did up chores all round:  picked up late lot of limbs in yard;  helps me hitch up.  He worked up till 9  Pd .15. will come again Tuesday morn.  drive up town toward night:  got to P.O.  No letter.  Drive W. to Eastern School for exercize.(sic)  Get sausage and pork at Dorsch 15.  Pay a/c at Thos. Briggs ch 2.90.  Met  Alex Gordon on St.  He lives at T.H.  says doing well.  The boys did not play ball on library lot today P.M.  Think board has gotten after them.  Paid 10 Corwin.  Jack sick; had fit in house P.M.  Electric meter man reads today 766000.  Another fellow an inspector of meters came a little later.  He reported our meter all right.  I cooked some sausage for sup. but  could not eat much.  The dirt streets are quite  muddy.  Part cloudy day E to SE wind.  Weather Bureau predicts rain tomorrow.  Gobed 8.30 

23.  Sunday.  5.45.  ther.  42.  86,  68. =  59 1/3

Cloudy, S.E.3.  Light rain from 4 AM. with much mild thunder.  I thought I had good breakfast, fried  pork &c. but no appetite.  Jack has quit eating think sick.  The rain to 7 AM. 60.  It didn't stop long at any time and very dark with heavy rains after 10 oc.  I bought  paper of boy.  I didn't feel much appetite and did little cooking.  After 10 AM heavy showers till afternoon.  I went to sleep on lounge and when got up made about pint of mush which ate for dinner with blinky milk .  Soon as I got through or before Groves came over stay till after 4.  The  Ther. continues to rise and stood at 68 most of P.M.  The rain from 7 AM till 2 P.M. was 1-2 3 in mostly between wo AM and 11 AM.  The branch was very high.  Shave self after Gs left.  They promise to come again -S.!  The sun came out at times after 1 P.M. but mostly cloudy day.  More rain at night: furious wind with heavy dashes of rain all night.  I felt poorly and took oil.  Slept on lounge from 8 P.M. till 11.30  Gobed midnight

24.  Monday.  5.30 AM  Ther.  54.  58.  52. = 54 2/3

Part cloudy S.W. 3.  No appetite this morn and ate little .  Wash up accrued dishes.  It looked like big pile compared with food have consumed.  H.G. called AM.  Is looking for a house they have to  leave Lizzie's.  I sold him old silver watch for 5.00 will pay when  gets pension.  I wrote short letter to Tue AM.  It began to  rain 10 AM and continued  all day and much of night.  Wind light variable some very heavy showers.  Total from 7 AM today till &AM (25th) 2.55.  This makes 5.03 inches i about two days.  I went to P.O. late getting letter from Tue written sat gob 10.45

I tinker with the clock P.M. till I thought it spoiled but it has been doing well ever since Sleep on  couch 8 to 11.

Clear.  S.W> 2.  ice 1/2  Thanksgiving.  Order load cobs Whalen Bros. & G.  Paid Handiages .75 for same.  Killed chicken for Tue.  We have no chickens~~  No letter from Muggs this morn.  today.  Tue gets one from Buddy.  I did not go up town.  Tue finds pears mostly frosted.  I did not hitch up.  H. G. was here hour or two p.m.  Is working for Comer near Dorsch's.  Sign renewal of 15.00 note with him.  Thinks good prospect from Uncle Sam Oil Co.  Tue working with her new  machine.  She went to Hats at night till after 9.  Clear day strong S.W. winds lighter at night.  Go bed 9

Clear.  Mrs. Dickenson sent word that she could not wash today.  Tue engages Mrs. Rogers for tomorrow.  Fan has been very bad, ever since last Monday.  Comer was up in afternoon.  Apples are selling faster today.  Clear cold day day, wind N.W.  Maggie and Phebe went to school.  They both coughed almost constantly at night.  Nothing seemed to relieve it.  Tue went up town toward night buying some calico &c for her mother.  Gobed  10.320 Pm ~

SW1.  Mort finished about 11 AM and settle 16.45.  There will be some trimming up after plastering.  Alfred came AM.  Picked some pears &c.  Mrs. Veach called AM for 2 bu.  Preston (the new man at the farm) with wife  call PM. getting pears.  brought ck from Cliff for hay sold J.O.L.  He wants to rent part of  farm next  season.  Helen Leone and George drove in about noon.  I didn't go up town till sunset get coffee at O&R steak at Dorsch's not good.  Boys play ball good deal in library lot and annoy us taking pears &c.  The authorities  have promised to stop them.  Tue  and self at home tonight, nobody called.  Mostly clear day with light southerly wind.  9.30

Clear, wind northerly.  Riley Decker called to see about cutting some wood.  Sandy called after dinner , says he was burned out since he was here last month.    Settle all up with Comer for lumber sold by both of us to date.  Pay him 111.64.  Buy whitefish of Dorsch.  Baby seems worse today. Got  some medicine of Patton which didn't seem to help her much.  Dick Wesley got killed down at R.R. at about 8 P.M.  Drive with Tue a while after supper, taking baby.  C.G. not  feeling very well, supposed water melon.  Go bed 10 P.M.  Ferd  was in and stayed all day till bedtime.

Clear, N.N.E. 2.  Mare has last both hind shoes.  Oil buggy and hitch up  9 AM.  Harvey still "sick" and cant do anything with furnace till better.   Think mare has distemper for past several days. Helen with John and Louise with Virginia were here an hour or two P.M.  Bill Scott calls to collect for fence which has not yet come.  He didn't collect.  Met Jo Moffett up town A.M.  He is 84.  The Chatauqua (sic) is in full swing.  Trolley takes passengers to N. gate.  Few people in town for Sat.  Clear day light northerly to easterly winds.  Tue got letter from Muggs AM.  She will be home in a few days on vacation, says about  Tuesday.  Try to phone Harman but he was at Chatauqua (sic) .  Tue spent eve at Mrs. K's.  Phebe out town with the girls Ora &c,  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

Clear S.S.W. 2.  Harman phones early that just through cutting oats.  Think will have to thresh most of present  week.  Tue attends church P.M.  Churches no services PM a/c the Chatauqua (sic).  Start for timber east 10 AM.  Thunder shower came up and I return in time to escape a wetting.. Try same trip again P.M. with same result. R.54  A.M. and .14 at 5 P.M. till after dark.  Part cloudy day with much thunder.  The storms more  from Westerly.  Moderate S to westerly winds.  Gobed 9.30

Some clouds.  Mrs. Chanceller comes wash at about 7 AM.   finishing about 3 PM  Father and I went down to gas well AM.  They had drilled 360 ft.~  Buy 14 qts. of B.Berries paying 1.75 at Mitchells.  Bob Brown called P.M. to see about talking a lease on some of my timber land.  I decline to give  him a lease.  Comer passed at night says they are nearly through the on N. end.  This has been one of the hot days very few clouds and no signs of rain.  Tue canned 5 qt. cans of blackberries.  Go bed 9 PM

Thursday, July 28, 1887, 6.30 AM.  Ther. 80.  101.  84

Clear or smokey.  Very calm night.  The ther. stood at 74 at 3 AM.  Notify E.D.Davis through Abbots that am ready  for him to  receive lumber.  Sell  Jeff and Dorsch each cord of wood to deliver this week.  Probably the most   (?) hot day we have had.  Some clouds P.M.  predict rain within 48 hours.Uncle John in town toward  (?).  Baby complaining good deal at night.  Cool breeze springs up from N.E. at 8 PM.  Mary Davis was over to visit girls.  May Johnson comes to visit Davis folks.  Gobed 9 PM.
