1.  Thursday.  6.30. AM  Ther.  32.  36.  34. = 34

Cloudy S.2.  Phone H.G. to bring stuff from from Interurban freight sta (sic) which he did   stopping briefly to read M.P.S. letter.  Tue phones Rene.  Bert has been sick.  Walk up town after dinner getting cigars.  Talk with Heddins boys whos father recently died,  Pay ticket a/c at Pay nes (too much) $2.50 getting calendar for record as usual H.G., Nat and Mrs. Curd came spending evening.  H.H. to supper.  I talk with the Heddin boy, up town also.   Ike Miles.  Cloudy day with light Southerly winds.  Bureau predicts snow.  Gobed 10 P.M.

2.  Friday. 6.30. AM.  Ther. 34.  40. 34. = 36.

Cloudy. S3.  Snowing ground covered.  Learn that Geo. Boulware Co. Clk. died last night.  The  R.C. did not meet today.  Payne phones that I over paid him in settlement.   and he owes me 1.50.  I quit smoking last night and burn up old stubs and cigars.  This  my first day without any tobacco for nearly a year.  Phebe spent afternoon at Lizzie Shoots.  Jessie Dunn and Mary Jane call a while P.M.  Tue ironing at times.  Mrs. Purtill called at night She has been  living in Oklahoma.  Cloudy day with about 2 in. of snow and slush.  Wind shifts to NW at night.  Gobed 10.

January 1889

1.  Tuesday. 6 AM.  Ther.  20.  39.  28.

Clear SW wind.  Broke the coffee mill this morning and tried without success to mend it.  Byers called PM to say that he and Woodrum had been unable to find a place to board down at timber.  There was an eclipse of the sun from 3 PM till sunset.  The  globe - (?) did not come today.  Hat was here toward night.  The Myers girls were over in evening.  I made a batch of candy for Maggie and Phebe.  Clear day  go to bed  10 PM

2.  Wednesday, 6:15 AM.  Ther. 25.  42.  30.  

Clear and fine.  Westerly wind.  School begins again today after a vacation of 10 days.  Get $40.00 for ties of Geo Sefton Agt.  Looke insures dwelling for three years for 600.00 premium  $6.00.  R. Rutherford up pay him for Kirk fifteen dollars.  Helen went home P.M.   Went  down to depot at night.  Sefton paid me for 100 ties.  Went up to  Frank Dunns office at night.  Tue and M & P spent evening at Davis'  Gobed 10 PM  (?) on dwelling for 1,000 for 3 years.

16.  Saturday.  5.40 AM  74.  96.  82. = 84.

Clear S.1.  Drive 9 AM with Tue and Charles out to Huffmans.  Stop at Jessie Dunns.  John Simon passed through, said was going to Mattoon.  Harman phones that got home Wednesday.  Wants to cut clover for seed.  Another very sultry day.  thunder showers 3 P.M. .15 in. here, much heavier E.  I drove after 4 P.M. to Westfield bridge getting home 6.30.  One of the Wrights has started small store at top of the hill.  Part cloudy day; light variable winds.  Jessie and Mary Ann called at night and they went up to show.  Go bed 9

17.  Sunday.  6 AM.  ther.  74.  98.  84. = 85 1/3

Clear. S.1.  After getting paper drive west and S.W.  An aviator makes two flights today at Urban Park.  At Clover Leaf high bridge I heard their machine and could see part of the flight from the bridge at distance of about a mile N.W.  My first sight of a flying machine.  I return by Bunk hill getting home about noon.  Mrs. Brooks over P.M. and I drove with Buddy and Chas. on Ashmore road to Huckaba road returning S. road.  One of hottest days.  Light variable winds Thunder shs (sic) around, no rain here.  Go bed 9

18.  Monday.  6.30 A.M.  Ther.   76.  94.  80.  =83 1/3

Most cloudy.  S.1.  There is quite a stir in town today.  The county fair begins tomorrow.  Drive up to  Grims for cabbage get can buttermilk at Creamery.  Too warm for me to do much.  Harman called P.M. but didn't seem to have any biz. and just called.  Heavy thunder E. and S. much of P.M.  What looked like heavy showers S. say 5 P.M.  Drive with Buddy over S. part town late P.M.  Mrs. Grove spends much of P.M. here.  Mr. Bell very feeble.  Learn that Ike Finch is dead.  Much cloudy.  P.M. go bed 9

16.  Thursday  5.20 AM  Ther.  75.  85.  72.

Got to woods at 8.30  Clouds over and rains before 11 oc.  Men got in 3/4 day.  Bob Brown brings w/ load of lumber.  Men made some  posts today have about decided to build a large sheep farm.  Men quit at 3.30 P.M.  I drove home in the rain slow rain most of P.M.  Gobed 9 PM.

17.  Friday 5.30  AM.  Ther.  72.  90.  70.

Cloud and damp got to woods at 10 AM,  Three of men at work on hillside near spring.  Jo Handley's child died last night and was buried today.  Republican meeting down in Hutton Township.  Heat very oppressive today.  Damp and hot cloudy forenoon clear P.M.  Got home at 7 P.M.  Tue not very  well, baby better than she has been for long time.  Am very well.  Satified with clearing job so far.  Gobed  9.30  PM

18.  Saturday 5.30 AM.  64.  82.  60.

Cloudy early but soon clears off wind. - N. on N.W.   All hands up but John.  Decker to pay them all up.  Pay note July 14 at bank and make new one for 60 days.  Pay Mike Miller 10.00 and owe him yet some  6.00 dollars.  Tue not feeling  very well.  Got shoes at Messecks for the girls.  Sam Cooper wants 8 cords wood.   quit tob.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Monday, June 24, 1912  5.15 A.M.  ther.  58.  82.  70. = 70.

Clear, N.1.  Parker went to Loxa and found work done by Weal.   So phone from Loxa.  Otherwise going out.  I didn't see Parker.  Try to get Tue  to go out to Helen's* with me but didn't..  Drove up to Frank Balch's P.M. taking packages left here by Kate.    Buddy went P.M. to see Jessie Dunn taking Charles in his buggy.  I did not drive much.  Mare very nervous about fire crax which are now in season.  Today got letter from Muggs AM.  Tue over at Grove's at night.  Mostly clear light northeasterly winds.  Gobed 9.30

Friday, June 24, 1887  6:30 AM  ther 66.  80.  62.

Clear.  Start for Mill at 8.30  with father.  Tried to get some hickory bark but gave up.  Horse got scared while I was getting ready to feed her ran away and tore up every thing "Dad" and I  had to ride home with Jo Easton  gathered up what we could find.  Left buggy down there in two or three places.  Get home at about 8 o'clock P.M. pretty well tired out.  Clouds up toward night and looks like rain.  Need it everything is drying up.  Wheat looks well and mostly cut  Go bed 10 P.M.
