Clear S.W. 1.  Hoden was in AM.  Settle for butter and eggs Since last Feb. Ck. 6.50.  Tues finishes fixing an old rug for Buddy.  Tue  attends Aid meet at McCravys P.M.  Fern N; helping Phebe with dress most of day.  I drove E. to Alexander woods. late P.M.  there is  nothing doing in the  woods.  Got home about 7.  Mostly clear day.  Heavy clear day.  Heavy cloud from northerly at 8 P.M. with lots of wind and dust No rain but good deal of thunder.  a light shower later in night.  .o5.  Gobed 9.30.

Mostly clear.  S.W.2.  Rhoda comes to wash, working till 3 P.M.  Get shave A.M. pd.  Later hitch up and drive up town.  Pay E. Light bill for June 1.89 ck.  Perry Grove has recently resigned his posish with Public Service Co.  I got jag of corn of I.B.M. yest.  they pay 65 and sell @ 75c.  I drove N.E. P.M.  going N. on Anderson road and returning by Ashmore road corn look well up that way- No corn firing as yet.  I got home 7.30  Part Cloud day Showers S.E. P.M.  Heavy thunder in that direction about  3 oclock.  wind northerly at night and cleared off.  Go bed 9.30.

10.  Thursday.  5.30  A.M.  Ther.  62.  84.  70.  = 72.
Clear. N.E.2.  another change in weather without rain.  Tue goes up later.  I get start to Loxa 9 A.M. going through to farm which look over pretty well.  Cliff at work in B.C. south of house with five teams.  Talk with him while.  Paul and Mr. Cox both sick.  He has four hands hired in  field. has cut say ten acres oats.  Asks me to  send Abbott out - which I did P.M.  Return through Loxa getting home say 1 P.M.getting sheaf oats.  Met Zeke Gilbert.  Toward night drove round by Siberts: he will shoe horse  &c in  morn.  Saw Abbott: Says will go out in morn.  Says Jo Bill now working for Interurban.  Clear day with a steady N.E. whirlwinds.  Lighter at night.  There is no running water in Cossell Creek.  All streams are going dry.  Plenty of water at head wall Loxa Branch.  Tue  and Phebe were up to  hear band in evening.  Fern here during day working with Phebe.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Clear.  N.E. 2.  Tue got letter from Muggs yesterday:  says will be home Saturday.  Got mare shod in front AM.  at Siberts on 7th St.  Cr,  They came for her and return her when shod. Get good steak at Dorsch's.  S. Emmett helping him put up hay.  Clouds up light shower about 1 P.M. with thunder.  More light showers in night.  Order of I.B. late P.M. bu oats and bale threshed timothy which they deliver.  I drove late down Myers house through Wrightsville getting home after 6.  Part cloudy day Strong southwind P.M.  Go bed 9.30.

Cloudy early W.4.  Strong southerly wind all night with light dashes of rain - Not enough to do any good.  I drove S.E. nearly to river AM looking for chickens.  Didn't find any.  I got home noon finding Muggs here, sooner than she expected.  She has four weeks vacation.  Grace and Fern here P.M.  Mostly clear day with high westerly winds.  Old man McGaham died yesterday.  Learn that Sam McPheron is dead at Mattoon.  Tue and girls went up town a while at night.  I  have had bad pain in right side for week.  It worries me.  Got buttermilk at Creamery.  Gobed 10 P

Clear mostly S.W. 3.  Hitch up early.  Tue and girls sleep till about 8.  Tue attends church morning.  Shave self AM.  Had intended to go to ranch or elsewhere AM. but proves to be too hot about 5 P.M.  drove to ice plant for ice and later took drive down by Woodson place.  Corn looks well in spite of the drouth.  I got home 7.30  Roads dry and dusty.  Little signs of rain.  Mostly clear day with strong SW wind.  Go bed 10 P.M.

Cloudy and very threatening.  Heavy black cloud approaching from N.E.  It yielded little rain (05)  The rheumatism in right side which has annoyed me for a week or two so much worse today that keep pretty still.  Toward night I drove SW getting home 8 P.M.  I got three chickens at Louis Songer's 1.00 check.  Part cloudy and threatening but no rain here except sprinkle in morn.  The  corn Emmett planted is up two or three inches.  Corn in country looking well.  Part clear S.W.3.  Go bed 10 PM.

Cloudy with thunder S.2. Sp. rain 6 P.M. .03.  The pain in my side gets worse.  I did not hitch today on account of heat.  Didn't go up town.  Sat in buggy in barnyard much of P.M. reading.  The heat very oppressive.  No rain although cloudy and threatening late P.M.  This drouth is pretty general in the middle West.  Sat with Tue, Muggs and Phebe on hillside after supper.  Wish Buddy was here.  Mosquitoes still pretty bad.  Jack dog something in his throat.  Gobed 9.30 P.  Tue sends box to Buddy Express.

Clear.  S.2.  Start Loxa 6 AM and get home 9.15 AM.  Hugh working for A. Moore.  Helps me measure lot 218 ft.  Buy 2 ties Geo. Anderson.  Stop at Jones: pay him a/c to date 90 cts cash.  Start to go up to place but decide to go home at once.  Don't seem to find fence I want: look at Mercantile stock AM.  Give saw to file to Moody.  Emmett came early:  plants in garden, rake off yard began on S.R. ash pit sent lawn mower to  Chas Wells for treatment.  He  returned it PM. pd. .50c.  After finish ashes Emmett with me looks over pasture fence and spend hour or two hunting post digger which couldn't find.  I drove over to Anderson for saw and came near a runaway.  Raymond got saw for me Tue over at Mrs. Bro(?) P.M. getting home 6.30.  Emmett worked all day and will work tomorrow.  Most clear hazy day.  S.W.4.  Get booze P.M.  Interurban owe me dime.  Tue over at Brooks P.M. and at Grove's at night at night.  I slept on couch till 9 when go to bed.  E. Cloudy SE wind.  A little rain about 9 AM and indications of (?) cloudy most of day and fresh easterly wind.  Tue set out her roses &c. north of the house.  Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Robinson were here toward night Mamie Lang has the measles.  Plum and peach trees are in full bloom or nearly is.  Gobed.  9.30 PM.

Part cloudy, red clouds. S.3.  Tue irons most of AM. and Keeps on.  I sort out old junk in shed and clean off mare AM. John Simon calls after dinner reporting everything all right at ranch.  One King from Diona called PM wanting to cut some  poles , I refused.  Phoned J.E.W. morn for same. Hitch up before  Ray came and he went with me to Interurban fore for Bill in same.  Stopping at P.O., coming home.I got letter from Phebe she was yet in Chicago at Gages 12th inst.  Later I drove out to Huffmans returning S.road.  It is not as muddy as I supposed.  They have been erecting frame for big water tank opposite Interurban on Monroe street since I was down that way Jan. 30.  Ray rode to Division with me.  Tue went up town after I got home about 6 P.M.  Several dogs have been poisoned in neighborhood lately.  The roads not so bad as supposed.  I get Andrews bill today it is much larger than had expected.  It includes all at farm.  Roof rc for barn and roof and stripping for BC shed also current and lumber for Extension WC SW corner of house and repairs  on Loxa house.  Mostly clear till P.M. wind got NW and cloudy.  Papers predict cold wave.  The snow is gone except patches on North hillsides.  Go bed 9 P.M.

cloudy N.2.  Tue retired latae last night leaving cellar lights on  they burn till 7.30 AM.  Tue slept till nearly 9 oc.  She attended church with Mrs. Brooks AM.  Getting paper which is now 5 cts. instead of 6 as formerly for a year or two past.  She went calling with Mrs. Brooks P.M.  I wait for Ray to come to help hitch up but did it self before he arrived.  I drive SW Keeping pave and gravel till turn E. OakRidge SH.  Chilly driving roads generally muddy wind getting in S. clouds up.  I got home 5.30 Tue later.  Tue writing Marie tonight.  The lights were all out for a while about 9.  Mostly clear, varible winds light rain 9 P.M. and later.  Gobed.9.

Clear. N.1.  Lt. wh. fr.  The rain last night (.10) thin ice.  Tue still writing to Buddy and sends package by Parcel this morning.  Tue  over to Bells P.M.  Mrs. Grove called 2 P.M.  Public service Co have been cutting their useless poles today on 6th St.  The city taxes every pole standing.  I hitch up about 4 P. Drove E. on  Westfield road a mile.  They have been scraping it.  The roads are worse than yest.  Met J.E.M. near Crums store.  Clear Day light variable winds becoming southeasterly at night.  Gobed 9.P.

Clear S.E.3.  There was strong southeasterly wind all night.  One of young men (Lee) roomers thinks has measles and keeps his bed A.M.  Tue prepariing for R.C. Function at Jo Reats this P.M.  I hitch up 11 A.M.  Find the terrapins in box since last Aug. doing well.  Supposed they were dead.  Lee finds he has Measles and goes home with friend to recover P.M.

SW.3.  Clouds up early.  Order sack wood plaster sent Loxa by Interurban.  Finger is improving and did not keep me awake last night.  Clear morn but grows colder wind shifting to N.W.4.  The forecasts predict cooler, but no cold wave insite!  Alfred came P.M. choring for an hour or so.  I hitch up 4 P driving up town for tobacco.  Got letter from Harman enclosing check from Linder $331.01 being all of my share of corn  hauled to elevator this season to date,  I prefer to make own settlements, and shall try  to do so in future.  Mostly cloudy day with high  N.W. wind.  I did not go up  town until near dark.  My finger disables me a good deal.  Wind seems to increase at night.  Go bed.  9

Dark and smokey.  get ready to go to the timber but began to rain about 7 AM and rain lightly good part of day.  Phebe not very well stayed home.  Buy some rabbits of F. Biggs.  Drove down to Young's PM serving notice to quit on old man.  They over twenty dollars rent.  The Grand jury adjourned.  Have indicted many good Mattoon  liquor men.  Geo. Weber was over  from ILL.  Very dark day smokey or foggy.  Wind N to NE .  Heavier rain at night.  Peel half bush apples and quinces at night.  Go bed 9.30 PM  Mrs. J. Brown funeral P.M.

Part cloudy S.2.  I find two spokes broken R rear wheel of old buggy.  Tue and Maggie iron A.M.  I drove to Dicewood and beyond: no fungi excepting Clitocybe illudeno which meet in Stoddert's  pasture.  I got home say 11 AM.  There is a teacher's meeting at E.I.S.N. and great crowds are coming in especially on interurban.  Tue takes four of them to lodge just for tonight - all young ladies.  Tue attends RC* at Ed Millars P.M.  Grey Anderson and help put coat plaster on new W.C. and will come in morn and finish.  J.B. Hill filling New Silo as I pass AM.  The  mud is light and will soon be gone..  Mostly clear day with light to high S. to SW winds.  Lightning around at night.  Tues lodgers attended theatre (sic) til late and keep us awake &c.  Gobed 9 lightning nt.

P.M. and pd 7.50 ch.  I drove to Dicewoods AM failing to find any fungi excepting  Chilocybi illudeno ~   Mostly clear day with  N.W. wind.  Self not feeling as well as last week.  Got load Pana lump coal today it is poor stuff for our furnace.  Get letter fr Cass Shaver wants to rent.  Gobed 9

Partly clear, E2.  Repair some on buggy and get R.H.  The Interurban has recently changed their schedule.  Tue went to church.  I drove to Timber east.  Nothing growing.  Too cold and Dry.  Corn looks well east of town but is small.  The roads are good.  Mare seemed "off" today am feeding her too much corn.  Drove with Tue late P.M. out to Helen's.  George is expecting the measles.  Part  cloudy day with moderate E. Wind  All out but self at night.  Phebe went with friend P.M. to Ashmore in auto.  Gobed 9.30.

Cloudy foggy.  Rec. case beer pts. from Drusnoey(?).  Find silkworms are badly affected and are dying fast at the store and a good many of them at home.  W.S.G. and self went right north for hedge in morning and again in evening.  Dash of rain with thunder about noon.  Mrs. Laind ironed.  Write letter for W.S.G. to A. Burbb requesting him to send discharge papers.  Drive around town awhile with Maggie and Phebe.  Go bed at 10 P.M.  Baby has cough, not time for measles however.

Mostly cloudy N.3.  Get stuff ordered Nick yest.  Colman on duty at Interurban.  Met Cooney Scheyetl.  He lives and works in Chicago.  Tue and Phebe finish ironing.  Tue has determined not to get Ellen any more.  they are cutting the hay on library lot.  Some of the aldermen get it.  Tue and Phebe up town P.M.  I get shave at Brown's pd.  Helen phones in wanting to borrow my mare to disc with.  They didn't  get her.  I drove out to Dicewood late P.M. nothing doing.  Cloudy day with stiff north wind.  The mud about dried up.  Tue write Buddy night.  Go bed 10
