December 8,1912 & 1887 in Coles County, IL

8.  Sunday.  630  AM.  Ther.  34.  36.  24.  = 31 1/3
Mostly cloudy.  W.3.  ice 1/4.  Tue went to church AM.  I didn't hitch up.  Had thought of going to ranch if pleasant.  Snow flying many times today and at night; but little fell however barely visible   Had to rush  fires a little.  Furnace keeps leaking fear it will give out before spring.  Tue attend entertainment with Mrs. Brooks at night at church.  Go bed 9.30

8.  Thursday.  6.30  AM  Ther.  32.  44.  43.
Cloudy  Foggy.  Mrs. Rogers comes to iron at 8 AM.  Told Sam Ray yesterday to put my mare on lighter feed at 6.00 per month.  Snider  took Ma home today.  He stopped here but she did not get out.  Harman brings jar butter  8 1/8 lbs. 1.65.  Took out another jar.  Mrs. Davis helping Tue sew in P.M.  Got lot of Couriers with Fannie's notice and sent to the relations.  Harry Holmes has damage case in court.  Trial this P.M.  Geo. Weber over.  Baby still very cross.  Tue seems to feel some better.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Monday, July 22, 1912  5.30 AM.  Ther. 60.  86.  72.  = 72.2/3
Clear N.E.2.  Drive round a while trying to find McNeel but don't.  Write to Mrs.  Sexton about fence.  I start out to Bert's at 10 AM.  Tue seems to be enjoying herself and will remain until Thursday.  Bert cutting oats.  We drove up to  his field after dinner.  Crops look fine out there.  I felt worse than usual today.  Start home about 6 P.M., didn't reach there  till near dark.  The roads are dry and becoming level.  No rain at Bert's yesterday.  Fair day light N.E. to S. E. winds.  Phebe away at night.  Go bed 9.30

125 Years Ago . . .

Friday, 5.40 AM.  Ther.  75.  90.  70.  
Clear.  Fan and family came about 9 AM`and stay till 7 PM.  Bought mutton at Lees .35  tomatoes .25  salt 20.  Tue made ice cream.  After dinner went out to the races staying till 4 oclock .  Saw Geo Weber, he talk rather favorable about my going to Mattoon.  He has been tending bar for Harry Holmes about a month.  Tue went to Concert at Christian Church at night leaving me with baby.  Father went to bed and the girls were up to Davis.  Uncle John was in town says Bert has left.  10 PM.

Tuesday, June 25, 1912  4.30 AM  Ther.  62.  86.  72.  = 73 1/3
Part cloudy, haze. N.E.1.  I start Loxa after 8 AM and through town up to place.  Cliff cutting meadow E. of  branch.  Has cut and put piece clover west of Loxa Creek 12 1/2 acres.  The  B.C. is up  and good stand but is very small.  Cliff 4 men cutting E& W on 30 a piece.  The timothy meadow has improved.  the oats look better.  His corn fair.  Don't think stand first rate.  I stop little at B.C. shed and start home about noon by S. road.  Stop at Helen's getting B&E  Drank glass of buttermilk which disagrees with me.  got home 1 P.M.  Parker called and will go with me to look at old poles in morn.  Buddy getting ready to go to  Hindsboro in morn.  Mostly clear light N.E. winds.  Small whirlwinds from N.E. A.M.  Go bed. 10 P.M.

125 Years Ago

Saturday, June 25, 1887  6.45 AM.  Ther.  63.  76.  57.  
Cloudy.  Was a sprinkle of rain early.  Took pants up to Winters to get repaired.  Got  overcoat which had been there two or three months.  Sir  Jo Liston about repairing buggy.  He gave me an order for  some lumber.  The City Authorities culled out several hundred feet of what has been brought up.  Settle up in full with Geo. Weber.  He thinks of going to work for Harry Holmes in Mattoon.  Cloudy cool day.  Go bed.  12 oc.  Get pants repaired at Winters.
