Clear.  Said to have been light frost in places.  J Riley came to work at 6 A.M.  R. Decker  @ 11 A.M.  Put up posts for N and E line and began on west after changing two or three times.  I walked over to Fritz hollow P.M. and start home at 5.30  Chilly day got hme 7.15  Maggie was sick all day.   Gobed 9 P.M.  wind NW fresh

Part clouds  Mrs. Rogers washed.  Uni drummer here didn't  buy anything.   Sent  box of pawpaws and wrote letter to Aunt Maria  Milt got up with load of wood took to Ben Anderson the first of five cords sold him   The wagon about gave out today.  Milt didn't start home until after  8 P.M.  Maggie better today she has not been able to go to school any yet.  11 P.M.

Cloudy.  Heavy shower about 3 AM.  Maggie feels better and up to breakfast.  cleared off before noon.  Start for ranch 9 Am.  Roads some muddy  Try with Milt to settle on location for shed.  He hauled up two loads of strips today.  None of other boys have worked this week.   Rode over pasture toward night.  Find grass looking very well but pastured too close.  Cool day  wind N.W. and strong at night.  go bed 9:30 P.M.

Clear.  White frost light.  Wait to work at fences N. end of yard in morning.  Commissioners came about 9 AM to survey road which they finish before noon  It measures about 226 rods.  After dinner worked on fence till I left at 4.45 P.M.  Maggie missed her chill today for first time in two weeks and feels better.  Cool day and some cloudy W wind.  Got home about dark.  Bought canned oysters at Lees.  gobed 10.15 P.M

John Adams for repairing Harness in full.  10c.  Walk down to depot P.M. to look at light plant.  Y Bro give $5.00 for 8th reg reunion Oct 2-3  Milt did not come up today.  Trade pretty good  Mrs. Davis and Ruth over at night  gobed  midnight.

Cloudy sprinkle of rain in night and early AM.  Tue and self start for timber 9 AM.  Find that one of the red pigs got killed in post hole.  Johnny  McKee there sent out sheep into two lgts and turn rams with them.  Sprinkle times during the day, and rain all the way home  Got home 7 P.M.  Heavy rain after dark  Gobed 10.15 PM

Clear.  Strong S.W. wind turns to N.W. and grows colder before 8 oc. AM.  Abbott and self went after cow at Uncle John's.  She  has a black female calf five days.  The gang were all up today and drained my a/c.  R. Decker wants south house but Kink proposes to keep it a while yet.  Miss Kemayer has not decided to get out of my room and I am afraid she won't do so soon enough for me.  Abbot quit at noon pay him in full for two days work.  Clear day with violent N.W. wind no signs of rain.  The drouth is becoming serious matter.  Crab apple and white haw blooming.   10 PM.

Clear  nearly frost.  Decide not to go to timber as intended W. wind, girls did not go to S. School.  After dinner Tue and I drove down toward Kickapoo round by Atkins and up river road.  Cold wind Tue caught cold in her teeth.  Clouds up toward night  Does not look much like rain more like snow.  Gobed 10 PM

Mostly cloudy but clears off.  Saw Miss Kemayer this AM. she refuses to get out of my room until her lease expires.  Would try to get her out for  180.00  H.G. a & Hat were down in morning.  Jack Jefferies tells me can buy the Perkins  grocery building  consult H.G.  rec.  Draft for ties from White 196.00 which deposit.  Pay up several small bills around town.  Latta is moving in his bar furniture today.  Leavitt and Davis brought in 37 ties.  I drove to Rogers with washing and went down 4 tie (?)  Sprinkle rain about  8 P.M.  Gobed 11 PM.

Cloudy.  H.G. advises me to accept Miss K's offer and pay her 180.00 for getting out of room.  I started for timber about 10.30  Men making rails and hauling fence.  Milt rode home with me.  Tue's face very bad this AM.  She had three teeth extracted this afternoon.  Had Mrs. Wentz and two D(?) friends to dinner  There was a general celebration today being centurial Anniversary of Washington's inauguration.  Roads good, river low.  Very dry.  Trees all leafing out.  Jo Handley finished planting corn today.  Part cloudy day N W wind grows warmer AM  colder PM.  gobed 11 P.M.

Light frost.  Clear.  The thermometer was 34 very early but stood at about 40 at 7 AM.  H.G. and self buy Stakey building near Meat Market paying 550.00.  I gave note  6 mo for my share.  Miss Keymayer offers to get out of room for $151.25 Alvey rented his room to restaurant this AM making another hitch in our arrangements    Stanberry suit comes up and is continued.  Milt Drake was up as Witness and went back P.M. with Kink.  Cold and mostly cloudy day 11 PM

Fair.  Wind S.W.  Suit up get some oysters for dinner.  H.G.  called in afternoon to talk  about  sawmill.  Think Strickland late but place.   Maggie and Phebe up to Davis toward night and to church at night.  Tue still complains of neuralgia  in head and face.  Gobed 9.30 PM

Mostly  cloudy , wind south.  Abbott sawed up half cord of wood for me and put it in the woodhouse.  H.G. was here in the morning.  P.M.  I walked out to look at Strickland lots round by depot and down  to ties.  Maggie and Phebe went to school in morning but remained at home in afternoon.  Mrs. Truman paid me for a cord of wood.  Miss Kemayor pays rent for Jany.  there was an alarm of fire about 4 P.M.  Gallagher's old shop which was soon put out.  Another at night which proved to be John Wentz old stable, it was said two horses were burned in it.  Pleasant day with heavy wind from S. very gradually to west and growing at night.  this kind of weather will soon dry the roads.  Gobed 10 PM.

Cloudy wind NW snow flying and say half inch on ground.  Help Tue make a batch of cakes.  Hat was here in afternoon.  snow flurie  all day but it  hardly covers the ground.    Fresh N.W. wind.  went up town at night for meat and pills.  Don't feel very well.  This has been the coldest day this winter.  Gobed 9.30

Clear wind about North.  This is the coldest day since last Feb. 27 when ther was -2.  Sam Leitch died this morning.  Had not been sick long.  H.G. down AM to talk about sawmill.  Pill I took last night makes me about sick all day, didn't go up town.  Tue has  toothache bad in afternoon.  clear and pleasant gobed 8.30

Clear wind S.W.  Father caught a bad cold.  Went up town for meat and to deposit rent check.  Maggie not well and stayed home from school.   There was none in P.M. a/c of Sam Leithch  funeral.  Repair girls doll today.  Mostly clear AM cloudy PM high S. wind all day.  Go bed, 9 PM.  Wrote Strickland asking price of lots S of Park Haute.

Mostly cloudy, wind light westerly, about an inch of light snow on ground.  Wrote for Burpee's Farm annual.  Mrs. Perrill called about noon  Uncle John was down to dinner.  Tue went down to Hat's in afternoon.  Rutherford is up from timber and draws 6.00.  Kink has made 50 more ties.  the ties White paid me for last week are not mine as none have been hauled up.    Fresh Westerly wind  most of day, snow mostly melts.  Gobed 9.30 PM.

Uncle John was in to dinner.   Compute interest on a note for him.  Mrs. Eastin was over P.M.  Kate and Edna Myers were over at night.  Maggie and Phebe spend evening over at Davis'  Doc D came down home with me, gave him bottle of sherry.  Pleasant day N.W. wind  Gobed 10 P.M.

Wind NW. some cloudy and snowing some.  Clears off before 8 AM.  Truman boy calls for wood before breakfast.  This makes a cord she owes for, says she will pay Saturday.  Tue has toothache all day and all night.  Most clear day chilly north wind.  Made bargain with girls about getting up in  morn.  9.30

Partly  cloudy.  N. Wind.  Cloudy and chilly day.  Tue still doctoring for toothache.  Cleaned up wood pile on Mrs. Norfolk's lot today.  Sold them 3 loads and brought one down home * half cord loads*  Have about  200 posts up there yet and a few old ties.  Maggie complaining at night  of headache.  Gobed. 9.30 PM

Clear, fresh S. Wind.  Felt badly all night and didn't sleep well.  Tue and girls went to Dowlings about 10 AM.  Not feeling very well myself went up town  about noon getting some eggs and meat.  Engaged Abbott to help a while tomorrow morning.  Clear day with south wind.  Gobed 9 PM

23.  Wednesday.  6 AM.  Ther.  31.  50.  40.

Clear.  Abbott came before 8 AM. and work all day cleared out stable and picked up  old lumber and worked into wood.  Got horse shoes set and sharpened up in front.  Clear  most of day and very muddy.  Mrs. Brown called bringing Bubs first report on ties being up to last Friday.    Kink had in woods 180. W & B  310.  has gone to work himself with Riley Decker and others.  Go bed 10 P.M.

Mostly clear with N. wind slightly foggy or hazy but clouds up and mostly cloudy day.  I started on horseback for timber at 9 AM. arriving at Bob's at 1 P.M.  Found things at the tie job rather mixed.  Decide to quit making soon as I got a thousand and tell Woodrum & Byrn to stop tomorrow.  Went home with Bob about  sunset, went to bed about 10 PM.

Clear white frost after breakfast.  After breakfast Bob and I went over and counted W & B ties.  They are nearly too large and many of them rough.  Recd 160, culling only four.  Ought to have thrown out 20 or 30 of them.  Kirk reports  in all in the woods 201.  Bob and Riley D. have made 32  Will let Bob and Kirk work a while on south end of timber till I get a thousand out.  Bob is not very well and is hardly able to work .  Pleasant day and cloudy toward night.  I started home at 1.15 PM and was three hours on the road.  Children went to Chinese show.  8.30 PM.

Nearly clear, white frost, hazy , smokey, mostly clear day.  Wind N. grows colder afternoon.  Tie men all up.  Settle with Woodrum & Bynes after some quarreling.  They pretend they are going away.  Bob sent up count of everything received by John Kink.  The whole no. recd. and in the woods now is 750.  Am afraid I will have trouble with them made by W & B.  Went up town at night to get some flour and other grub.  Lots of folks in town today.  Tue has tooth ache at night  go bed 10 PM.

S.E.2.  A gouty tac on left kept me awake most  of night.  I get load small nut coal.  Tower Hill.  AM. 2960 lbs. am out and this is the first.  Tue gets letter from Buddy.  I get Winters to order hat for me. buy pair of Henson gloves 1.25 all Cr.  Talk with Harry Messeck.  He  has sownC.h. of phosphate borrowing drill of Max Gorffin.  I went P.M. out to Reeds for Peaches.  Mrs. R. says not ripe yet.  I continue on stopping at Sander's.  Get three chickens  of Mrs. S. paying 1.00  Think too much.  Got home 6 P.M.  Mostly clear day with strong southwind.  I made pot mush after supper.  Go bed 9.

Clear S.2.  Rhoda came washing and ironing.  I drove down E. of Normal.  Get a few puff balls.  Helen Ferrish and George here to dinner.  John F.  is sick.  I did not see Ad. Miller except at long range.  Get shave Br. P.M.  After 3 P.M. I drove to town line.  There are few fungi coming.  I return by Watson road which they are plowing and scraping today.  Talk again with H. Missick.  He has sown car of rock Ph.  Get home  6 P.M.  Tue and Mrs. Brooks attend prayer meeting at night.  Most clear day S.4.  Go bed 9 PM

Clear.  Cow refused to give us any  milk this morning and had probably been milked.  Clean out  part of bookcase and burn up lot of trash.  Talked of going out to Uncle John's with Tue after dinner but Mrs. Robinson came over after dinner and we gave it up.  Tue and I pick the peaches left in garden and balance of the grapes.  Mow grass for cow at night - father has lame leg.  Go bed 9 PM~~

Clear.  Got started  at 8 oc.  took a saddle down today and after dinner rode all over south part of timber.  Four men at work AM. five P.M.  Enoch Johnson began again at noon.  Brown hauling rails in P.M.    Mrs. Brown rode home with me.  Mrs. Dickenson washed today.  Tue suffering from tooth ache.  Gobed 9.15 PM.

Mostly clear N.2. Ice 3/4 in.  Tue at church AM.  She got some Graham yesterday and we are living on germs as we used to.  It remained cold and cloudy most of day so did not drive.  Light northerly winds with light snow 4 P.M. until after dark.  About half an inch fell.  Gobed 9 PM.

Easterly after while.  Ed Eastin buys old harness @ 3.00  Pay Seph MClasky for labor yesterday .70.   Trim up vines south of smoke house.  Dam Van Sickle calls trying to sell me a pony.  Hat was here in afternoon.  Looki tells me I had better rent the Nicholsen place as his customer won't want it till fall.  Pearl Davis and Cecy Fisher came home  with the girls.  Self not well.  Tue has tooth ache good deal.  Gobed 9.30 PM.  foggy night.

Fr.  .  Ice 1/4.  Soon clouds up with light rain or mist at times during day.  Mostly cloudy day with moderate S.W. wind.  I get along without tobacco today very well.  The booze, however, is about out.Tue feeling very poorly   but does not send for Dr.  Helen was in bring some pressed chicken.  Alfred did not show up and we have to do choring.  I hitch up and drive out by Crinm's.  Dark day but clears up at night.  Gobed. 8 P.M.

•  Got new pair Seltz shoes of Gray N0. 89593.  Size .665, Ordered last week.  weight 24 1/2 0z.  Cost at present unknown.   Seltz Royal Blue Shoes
• Furnace Grate is uncoupled and I work an hour or two at trying to  fix same.  Tue helped.  Cottingham is away so no use,  have to let it go.

Mason, Nettie Perrill called about noon..  Will start for California tomorrow with Mrs. Lietch.  Learn that several  loads of lumber @ area up today.  Settle with Chas. Donsch in afternoon from way back owed him 15.40, he  owed some 11.60.    Dark cloudy day  wind varible mostly southerly.  Roads dry and getting dusty Maggie complaining at night.  Took medicine.  Tue has had toothache..  Gobed.  10.30 PM
