March 1891

1.  Sunday 8 AM.  Ther  10,  25, 20.

Ed Eastin died about 8.30 AM and Tue went over there after breakfast  He had been confined to the house a week or two.  

2. Monday.  7 AM.

Ed Eastin was buried this PM  Turie went to funeral at the house.  Ice is said to be 3 inches thick but nobody has packed any.

3.  Tuesday.

Tom Stansberry called to get price on 20 acres land adjoining them.

4.  Wednesday.

H.G. has now decided to  fill the ice box with ice and I get men and teams to work toward night.  Ice on Bishop's  Pond about 4 in.  Got in two loads will need four more.  Latta began moving old stable on lot across the  road.  Self about sick all day.  High fever at night.

5.  Thursday

Got our haul of ice nearly six large loads costing us altogether about 8.00.  Felt better today but catch more cold.  Somebody did a lot of painting on Pentecost Church creating quite a sensation.  The Council refused at a meeting tonight to allow a vote on license.

6.  Friday

Self feeling badly with sore throat and bad cold in general.  Maggie and Phebe went to ? social at night.

7.  Saturday

Uncle John was down to dinner.  Hat was down to supper.  Tue and she went up to Eastins.  D ?p and 
H.G. shot off Al King tonight.

8. Sunday

9.  Monday
County Court in session trying Pentecost offender.  Buy sack Decatur flour at W.E. Hill.  Learn that McCornell has bought Alveys store room and will move  his grocery store back there.   Prisoners at jail nearly got out today.  they found it out just in time.

Father not very well.

11.  Wednesday
Father cough so bad he had to get up in night and remain up  Marie still sore throat.

12.Thursday
Buddie [Marie] still has bad sore throat.  

13.  Friday
2 1/2 inches of snow on ground.  Maggie very heavy cold and does not got to school  Marie's throat still very bad.   Mrs. Davis sewing here P.M.

14.  Saturday
Uncle John was in town PM.  He got letter from Henry Hildreth of Berlin [Wisconsin] wanting to borrow $300.00.  Self not very well.

15.  Sunday
Maries throat better  Maggie about same.  None of the girls went to Sunday School.  Maggie complaining good deal with sore throat and tongue.

16.  Monday
Maggie didn't go to school. She and ? went walking P.M.  Tue went up to dressmaker P.M.  Tue got a letter from Aunt Fan.  Sam Goodrich's wife was buried today

17.  Tuesday 
Crail did not come  Learn that his wife is sick.  Got Sutton to extend water pipe in barnyard.  Learn that the temperance people  had meeting tonight to select candidates for city offices.

18.  Wednesday
Baby [Marie] had croup last night.  Spaded place along Eastins fence set out pie plants. I planted my mushrooms today in bed in smoke house.  Marie feeling badly all day and has croup at night.  Learn that McCraveys have rented Alvey room and will move there next month  Marie slept down stairs Tue with her.

19.  Thursday.
Set out lot of turnips for greens got some medicine of Dr. Patton for Marie she seems better toward night.  Maggie did not go to school.

20.  Friday.
Marie had croup spell from 4 A.M.  Our chickens worry us a good deal we don't know whether to sell them or go without garden like we did last year.  Marie seemed much better today.  Phebe's school was out today and Maggie went over with her P.M.

Marie does not feel first rate yet.  Self pain in side all day or might have gone to ranch.  Side feeling bad all day.  Begin to doctor for it at night.  Temperance people settle on a ticket for city officers.  Councilman 1st Winter  2nd  W Goodman 3 H?  4th A.M. Bain  Mayor, Chas Wiley  Treas. Jo McCravey.

Crail dug waste drain to hydrant in barn yard.

26.  Thursday
The pain in side not much better than for last few days.  Marie set her dress on fire today.  Nobody home but M&P they put it out before much damage was done.

Maggie and Phebe went to Pres. church at night at night to an easter (sic) entertainment.

28.  Saturday
The Reps endorse the FMBA ticket recently put in the field

29.  Monday
Pain in side about the same or worse.  Girls got up early to color Easter eggs.  I spent the day doctoring and dieting for lame side.  M & P went to S.S.  Tue to church.  Tue and  Phebe went to Hats after dinner.

30.  Monday
Tue bought lot of plants from Mrs, Sefton.  Maggie and Phebe start to school.  L? side about same and stay round house most of day....

31. Tuesday,
Find that hens have injured my mushroom bed badly, Tue has four little chickens she keeps in house all that two nests of eggs yeilded.  Mrs. Perrill called at night says Mr. Perrill quite sick

Cloudy and raining, wind S or SW. light showers during night - Too wet to do anything out doors.  John and Rile have done nothing for a week  I start home soon after dinner  John and Warren went after load of fodder up to fathers place  John helped dig some roots in river bottom west of John Handlys.  Roads pretty bad did not get home till nearly dark.  Tue had company today  Mrs. Perrill and Davis  the three Kates Mort Grove and perhaps others  Showery all day SW wind sunshine at times high wind changing to west at night growing colder snow squalls at nt[sic]. about half inch remaining on the  ground  go bed 11PM ~~

Cloudy wind N W  Jo Crail straighten up Perkins room and Bill Meyers takes possession.  Jo worked a while for me PM cleaning out stable and piling boards.  J.R. Cunningham died last night, has been sick good while.  Phebe began yesterday t keep family expense book and Maggie keeps record of the weather.   Cloudy day with day with occasional snow flakes.  Wind NW  trade rather dull as has been all the week  Not many people in town.  Gobed 11.30 P.M.

Cloudy SE wind.  Pay drafts from Straws and Kiefer    John Simons and Warren were up and ate dinner with us  Pay Simons months wages for Dec.  Jo Crail piled most of boards in afternoon.  Settle with Jo H. Handly for hauling hay  J.R. Cunningham who died night before last was buried today.  J? Charley Briggs has been here several days.  Uncle John was in town but didnt come down.  Maunie Lang and Davis children here at night.  Cloudy day with easterly wind and snow flying some AM. about clear at 11 PM.  go bed. 1 am

Clear.  Sit round house all day.  Girls went to sunday School.  Tue to church.  Several children here  visiting girls in afternoon.  Tue went down to Hats after dinner.  Clear day with southerly wind  gobed 11 PM

Clear S Wwind.  Mrs. Rogers washes.  Girls start to school Phebe to Miss Whitleman.  Maggie to Western.  Pay up A.M. Agriculturist to July 1892 3.60  Settle with McCravy 11.00  Warren Decker brought load for John Smions  Warren thinks John is going to  to leave me in spring.  School began today.  Trade light.  Clear day SW wind Gobed 11 PM ~~

Clear, Tue not very well Settle with Winter C.E. 20.25  I.  16.00 my account against Isaac 7.10 gave check for for bal.  Harman brought us jar butter,  Get letter from WH White enclosing check 34.58 for 91 ties,  Bought copper TeaKettle [sic] for Tue at Van Meters.  Trade light.  Clear day with NE wind, all electric lights went out tonight about ten oclock   gobed 12.30

7. Wednesday, 7 AM.  Ther 14.  32  22
Clear, NE wind, heavy white frost.  Jo Crail helped put on lock on back to gate to Perkins building and work down at house PM. cleaned out stable and smoke house.  Jake Dice called for lumber
 but didn't get any.  Tue and Maggie went to prayer meeting at night and Maggie then went to stay the night with Mrs. Knock.  The news from Fatty is that he is n better and is perhaps a hopless [sic.] case  Clear day with N.E. wind.  The predictions in daily papers say snow  tonight  Trade only fair.  Roads said pretty  rough.  Learn that Mart Comer talks of sawing up Alex Richters timber.  Gobed 230

Mostly clear.   Tue and Phebe ironing.  Went down by the H. G. [Henry Gramesly]  but didn't stop.  Look for man to help me get Pete Drake who comes after dinner and works from 12.20 to 4.20 P.M.  Carries wood down in basement.  Cleans out Stable repairs fence in bottom and will help me tomorrow morning a while.  Mostly clear day SW wind somewhat warmer but ground still frozen.  Gobed 8.30 P.M.

Partly cloudy Brisk west wind,  Tue feeling very badly today.  Helen came in  morning remaining to dinner and all day.  Hitch up after dinner - 3 PM - and drive out to Gaines' and Loxa.  Jo reports that has hedge about half trimmed.  John has hired to Sam Berry by month.  Is staying at Janesville, Cumber. Co. ILL.  I drove down to Loxa for Clara.  She  and Daisy riding to town with me.  Roads good.  Slightly rough except gravel.  Get pretty cold going out.  Clear day with W to SW wind.  Helen here to bedtime.  Maggie and Buddie took her way home.  Horses in pasture made raid on my buggy today.  We got home about 7 P.M.  Gobed  9.30 P.M.  ( shorthand)

Cloudy SW wind and snowing late.  Clara washes  Her father leaves today for Indiana.  Daisy called to see Clara AM.  I quit tobacco for sure last night.  Went up after grub toward night.  Get Capon 75 and steak 20 at Pinnells, Cr. 95 c.  Tue, Maggie and Marie went to church at night.  Lois Shortess has the measles.  After dinner I got ready to go to Loxa but decide to wait till tomorrow.  Snow falling much of forenoon about an inch falling mostly disappearing P.M. sunshine.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Clear NW wind.  Clara ironing P.M.  Tue went to church and to lecture afterward.  Wall pays me 10.00 on last month's rent and will pay bal. 40.00 tomorrow, is talking again about selling out.  Tue and self bought several lots of soap and  starch.  Too cold for me to drive out to Loxa but hitched up mare after dinner.  Clear day with NW wind.  Play Cinch at night  Gobed  10.30 P.M.

27.  Wednesday.  5.30.  AM.  Ther 15.  40.  22.  =  35 2/3

Clear,  N.W. wind.  Phebe making shirt waist.  Hitch up to go to Loxa but decide to wait till P.M.  eating early dinner.  Get Mrs. Gaines' bucket and towel.  Their clock not yet repaired.  Get to Gaines  2 PM  the the two Mrs. Gs drove to Loxa.  John and wife there.  Look over meadow north of orchard but can't tell much about it yet  start home 5.30 P.M.  Clear day N.W. wind.  Roads first rate.  Tue feeling badly but went to church at night.  Marie Clara and self play cinch  Gobed  10 PM.

Mostly clear S.E. wind.  Began snowing  A.M. from E.  Caught big rat in trap in old house A.M.  Got a letter from Mrs. Perrill - first since they got home.  Pay up Pinnell for stuff got there last Mon. night 95 cts.  Occasional light snow till along in P.M. where it began to snow in earnest, stopping before dark.  About 3 in damp heavy snow fell  Calf from Brown cow due Mar 12 likely to appear sooner.  Clara finished ironing.  Tue sewing but feeling badly.  East.  Play cards with the girls at night.  gobed 10 P.M.

Cloudy. damp day.  Felt badly all day and didnt go up to store.  Tue and Phebe went to Hats after dinner  Did not rain today although looking much like it.  Go to bed 9. P.M.

Part cloudy.  Milt Drake up with for load of corn  Mare sick didn't take much.  Warren took down load for Simons.  Milt says will leave  house pretty soon.  R. Decker came up with him.  Old Mrs. Bunch was buried today.  Partly clear day and warm light shower about 5 P.M.  Warm night.  Gobed 10.30 ~

Cloudy wind South changing to SW and at night W.  Warm spring day with strong wind  Roads very bad but drying  fast.  John Snider sent teams up for load of Simons things and Warren took another load.  Simons is now moved into Wes Deckers and will go into my home as soon as Milt goes out.  Tue makes Maggie stay home from school AM.  Gobed 10 PM.

Cloudy.  Wind, N.  Turner patches roof sp. rain AM.  Uncle John was down to dinner.  He has sold the Gage house making about five hundred on it.  Walter McKinley died this morning of consumption.  Brown drummer here P.M. also Cohert.  Turner patches house roof in morning cloudy Cool north wind  11.30 PM.

Part cloudy.  Self sore throat been coming on for several days.  Stay home most of day.  Hat here in P.M.  Got some catalogues of Ralf Hunon.  Bought some oysters at night E and NE wind all day and signs of snow.  Trade quiet Gobed 11PM.

Snowing, NEasterly wind.  Got a letter from Aunt Mary Hildreth this morning.  Sell half cord wood to  Martin.  Lou Reynolds hauls me  a load of wood.  Still got sore throat and go up town only little while toward night  Snow till 9 or 10 AM wind gets in N.W. grows colder at night.  Gobed 9.30

Cloudy and snowing Slept late, was wokened by carrier with speed delivery letter form Phebe telling that she had lost draft $36.00 sent her the other day write to Phebe and tell Wheatly of the loss.  Mrs. Perrill and Kate came AM. and will stay a few days with us.  Kate is running a millinery store at Wellsville, O.  Snow continued all day from the S.E. about 5 in. damp and heavy.  Clara went up after chickens &c. at night.  I slept on lounge in sitting room.  Gobed 12 oclock after reading an hour or two.  Ground hog didnt see his shadow today.

Cloudy and raining  wind S.E. quite heavy rain most of A.M. and snow settles fast.  Mort and Kate over to dinner and stay till night.
Take two exposures of party in sitting room after dinner.  Sure came out came in P.M.  Kate Perrill not very well.  Wind got round to west toward night and grows colder.  Clara went to church at night.  I slept on lounge going to bed at 11 P.M. Alarm of fire  P.M.  H. Hildreth called PM but did not stay.

Cloudy weat wind.  Kate Perrill and her mother went over to Groves after dinner  Methodist Aid Society meeting there.  Send check to A. Richter for coal 21.53  Have about enough to last till Mar. 1.  They move the P.O. yesterday to NW room in court house from Jefferies building on S. side.  Take picture of Clara in kitchen P.M.  Helen here toward night  Develop three plates at night.  Tue and Marie over at Groves.  Clear day N.W. wind.  quite slipery on side walks.  Mrs. P. and Kate stay at Groves at night.  Gobed 10.30 PM. _

Cloudy and light snow wind easterly.  My knee better this morning.  Clara got up and made fires.  Clara ironing all day.  Tue making shirts for me.  John Simons called about noon and we settle for hauling corn. 10.35

5.70 for S 4.65 for Warner. 207 bush.  Still have crib of about 150 bu at Simons place.  Give him lot of old Country Gentleman.  Clear up lot of old spoiled plates and tone some prints P.M.  Miss Perrill and Kate came and remain all night.  Mort and Kate over till 9 P.M.  Self bad toothache at night and didn't sleep much.  Cloudy day S.E. wind  Gobed 9 P.M.  Drop line to J.M. Stevens regarding mortgage.

Clear or nearly so with south wind  Alarm of fire at 7 AM.  Lune Woodrum shot last Wednesday night died today.  H.G. went home this morning with the "grip."  I had to stay at store most of day.  Bought blue fish of Geo Lee.  Rec 466.41 from Friskey for Boh Whiskey.  Trade fair  Girls over to Davis' at night.  Clear day  Go bed  11.30 PM.  Mrs. Rogers brought home washing.

17.  Thursday.  5.30  AM.  Ther  22.  25.  20  =  22 1/3  Cloudy northwind.  Snow flying most of forenoon  Didn't hitch up horse today for about first day this winter  Mostly clear P.M.  I try a pin hole picture and develope two plates at night  Marie and Clara watching me  This was a hard day to keep the house warm owing to strong northwind.  Tue and Maggie away at night till bed time  Earl Decker was up and I paid him 4.50 ch for 5 cord wood and 125 posts.  Gobed 10 PM  Buy box of Eastman dry plates at Ricketts  paid

Cloudy and raining Every thing covered with ice think it rained all night freezing as it fell wind N.E.  Fred Rodnies went away last night to Seattle  Did not pay up.  The ice remains on trees &c all day making it very disagreeable getting around.  Trade very light.  Girls went to school took their dinner.  Pay up McConnell $23.20  Cloudy day N. wind W. at night  Go bed 11 P.M.

  Cloudy.  wind SW.  Thought of killing(?)  kid today but H.G. would not help.  Too warm anyhow  Masons have big supper &c at night.  Figure up account of money spent in past year by self  Mrs. Perrill and Mrs. Latta call at night.  The  epidemic La Grippe has made its appearance.  hear Dad Wentz is first case I have seen  Gobed  11.30

Cloudy and somewhat foggy.  N.E. wind.  I hitch up and go to train for Clara but got there too late.  Mail letter with Tue's check to R.S. Hodgen for 105.00 interest on note.  This  pays up all interest  to Jany 1.  I sent over lot of papers &c trying to clean up things in den.  Self feeling badly all day.  think have grip which is quit the fad now.  Have not milked the cow since Saturday  She had been giving only a teacup of milk  Dark cloudy day with east wind.  Gobed  9 P.M.

Cloudy Southwind.  Very damp and growing warmer  Went up town before breakfast.  Mail couple of letters.  Think have grip and feeling poorly all day;  Clara washed windows, silling (sic) and kitchen P.M.  and went with friend down to see Daisy at night.  Pakens at Mike Millers P.M. Maggie to party at Seftons at night. Mostly dark damp damp day Easterly wind sprinkle rain several times, Showers at night.  Gobed  9.30 PM.

Cloudy.  West wind.  Clara ironing.  Call at Campbells A.M.  Vally has new camera, Mrs. Sue Calhou(?) called after dinner  Call got out today and into barn.  Marie's club met here P.M.  having refreshments about 5 P.M.  Surprise party of guests met here about 9 P.M. going up to Switows to supper  Maggie was in it getting home late in night.  Clara went to Loxa an 9.05 train to see uncle to return in morning  Cloudy day variable winds.  I sat in basement till bedtime  10 P.M.

(at the top pf the page)  We had quite a scare AM when found paper burning in den around fire place where there has  been  no fire for years.  The furnace chimney burned out this morning and suppose fire got down from top into flu, but it may come from below from furnace ash pit and  flues.  It did no damage but it was just luck that it didn't.

Clear.  N.N.W.6.  High NW wind all night with snow flurries at times.  Tue got paper at 10 AM but did not attend church.  It proves to be a had day  on our heating  plant and we are almost out of fuel of any kind.  We were at home all day-nobody called.  Mort is about sick with cold.  I did not eat any supper.  Have been eating too much.  Gobed. 9.30 P.M.

Clear N.2. Tue fixes up package clothes for Phebe.  We did not hear from her this morning.  Get SR & Co Gro list.  Tue packs and sends off by Parcel P two boxes of clothes which Phebe left.  I order another load of came coal BPa& Co which they deliver 4 P.M.  Alfred chored 4 P.M.  Tue was over to Mrs. Brooks a while P.M.  Mostly clear day with light N.N.W winds.  It did not  thaw much today - only in sun.  A great storm has just swept Atlantic coast.  Harman phones night night hunting about clover seed.  I have felt poorly all day gobed 9.30

cloudy, wind S. light rain, probably most of the night.  Maggie did not go to school having caught more cold.  Mrs. Davis over in morning.  Learn that Geo. Sefton's baby died  last night.  Hat here P.M. helping Tue sew on  Phebe's dress.  Mrs. Easton calls P.M.  Dark damp day; wind shifts to west.  Have about decided to buy some hens and put in old smoke  house till we get a better place for them.   Tue churned toward night.  Has made 26 lb since Jan 9.  Mrs. Neal begins taking a pint of milk a day.  There ought to be a crop of peaches this year as the buds are all sound as yet and not swollen.  Gobed 9.30 PM.

Cloudy, foggy.  Hunt for man to clean out stable didn't find one.  sent  50 c. to  Able Agriculturist for  Poultry book.  Get letter from W.H. White with 18.00 for ties recd.  Went down to R.R. to see ties  2 piles one of 24 I know Kinks and other of 21 doubtful.  this makes 63 ties I have recd pay for which may not be mine.  Think will furnish the 10 set of switch ties but don't  know hour yet.  Spoke to Goodman about  gas well lot.  Mrs. Perrill called  toward  night.  Tue not very well.   Mostly cloudy day, wind N.  Gobed 9.30 P.M.

Cloudy.  Start for timber with Tue at 7.30 AM.  Men clearing all day west of house.  We have been married eleven years today.  Walked around a good deal.  Tue seems to like it pretty well.  Very warm down there.  Clear off early and mostly clear day.  left baby with father and girls.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Mostly  clear warm day.  Start for timber with M & P at 8 AM.  Six men clear today  Johnson having quit.  Clear N.W. of house cross spring hollow.  Have cleared as far west as think will do at present.  about a greater west of cast lives.  Maggie and Phebe enjoyed themselves and got very tired found some very fine fungi.  Got home at 6.15.  Tried an operation on calf this AM but no good.  Mrs Dickinson ironed.  go bed 10 PM

Mostly clear start for timber at 7.15 AM.  Six men at work clearing on ridge N. of spring.  fire old hickory stub.  Brown hauling old lumber and boards.  Brought him $2.05 in groceries today.  g of 9 oc.

Start at about 7 AM.  Cloudy mostly turns cooler P.M.  Near clearing on second ridge N. of spring push fence row through to N. road in P.M. I went over on Hall and Darkes eighty.  Oscar Decker  cut his hand pretty badly P.M.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear morning and day.  Most of hands were up today.  Uncle John was down to dinner.  Sherm Popham pays me for boards, $10.75.  Mrs. Perrill called at night.    Grate some corn for breakfast.  Bud some peach trees today 5 on N. (?) of row early peach from Brandenburgs.  Gobed 9.30

Clear.  worked of forenoon on plan for a sheep barn.  After dinner, Tue, self and baby drove out to Uncle John's staying an hour or two.  He gave me some advice about sheep farm and we got some corn to grate.  Gobed 9.15

Mostly cloudy.  Kelly works all day at fence Zeke  Eastin brought Alex Ficher 3/4 cord wood.  Pay him order for hauling $1.35.  Select goods for a suit at Winters. to (?) $30.00.  Have found no curculio yet.  There was light showers this morning  about  sunrise.  Tue set some tomato plants at night.  The ground is very hard and dry hard digging post holes.  Old Mrs. Eastin has been quite sick for a long time.  We slept up stairs last night for first time since last fall.  Mases Kenshaw paid me today for posts and lumber full $16.75  Gobed 10 PM

Partly clear looking like rain.  Kelly and self finished fence at noon, he worked at spading in bottom P.M.  Chanceller was hunting for me all afternoon.  Wants to rent our room for beer club.  I got  to warm today and about sick at night.  Strong S.W. wind all day storm came up fro N.W. about S.W.  about dark  and some rain fell.  Bob Brown hauled 1/2 cord wood to Ed Easton  Mrs. Perrill and Kate called at night.  Gobed 10 PM.

Clear.  No curculio yet.  Went down park house with H.G.  Then drove awhile with  Tue.  Drew off "french" at store about 3 1/2 gal.  C.G. feeling badly all day.  Phebe  still sick not much fever though and does not  break out thoroughly.  Has been warm day and dry, need rain Go bed 9.45 PM.  Maggie at Davis at night.

Cloudy and sprinkling lightly at times.  found no curculio yet.  Plums on some trees are as large as small peas.  Set out row of tomatoes  along the N. fence  E.  and 11 optiums, then 7 Paragon 8 Golden (?)  Phebe  about the same this morning but better toward night.  Mrs. Rogers washed.  Plant some sage and radishes.  Pay up Kink and Co and they start west.  Receive  65.20 from Bruner for 63 ties.  Tue not feeling very well.  Tom Knock says  will  build my fence tomorrow, Bill Kelly  agrees to help.  Sprinkle rain several times during  day with several light showers after dark.  Go bed 9.30 PM

Partly clear.  Sprinkle rain little in forenoon.  Bill Kelly works all day, put  up some trellis in garden and spades in garden.  Mrs. Rogers works all day at cleaning up stairs.  I plant two rows of peas in garden.  Three cases Bethesda cerriis(?)  from Chicago.  Baby  took a step or two alone on Sunday the first.  Think she will soon be able to walk.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

Mostly cloudy day.  Kelly cut burdock &c. round place AM.  Couldn't get T. Knock to work at fence so set Kelly at it, rather slow work.  New tenant moves into one of Curney's house , gave her hay to fill a bed.  Myers pays 2.50 on rent.  Bob Brown brings up another load of wood for Mrs. Perrill half cord.  Cool day but warmer toward night.  Go bed 8.30 P.M.

April 19-21, 1888 in Charleston, Illinois

Some cloudy grows cooler in the morning.   Intended to go to Timber home back but couldn't  get home.  I wanted to start  about 8 AM with Val Mount got home about 6 PM.  Let  R. Rutherford have the McKee house at 1.10 per mo.  Bob Brown has made 425 rails which he is putting into fence.  Came by Comer Mill.  Kirk hauled up 700 feet lumber to city.  There is about one load city stuff there.  Doch(?) papers and /whitewash Kitchen today.@ 2.25.  Meyers worked  half day for Mrs. Perrill.  Gobed 10 PM  Sprinkle rain down near timber about 9 AM.

Clear.  Pretty heavy white frost.  Found roads better than expected (?) yesterday,  dry but somewhat rough.  Maple, service berry and red bud in bloom blood root up and about to bloom.  Things seem rather backward.  Kirk brought up 7.05 feet of lumber for the city which is all of the city stuff.  Meyers came at noon and worked half a day, says he has papered the front room at Nick house costing 112.   Plant some early beans in bottom also some beets.  Went down to R.R. toward night to look at Kirk's ties, has 96 out they look very well.  Not feeling very well today, have been chewing tobacco.  Cool clear  pleasant day.  Peaches  and plums on hillside blooming.  Go bed 11 P.M.  Mrs. R. work all day cleaning kitchen.

Part cloudy with brisk S. wind.  Myers came in morn and worked about an hour.  Count up and find that  I owe him$1.16. which let go on next months  rent.  Bought some ceiling at Fuller for Kitchen.  Went down to Wings Mill to depot.  Trees have not come yet.  Uncle  John and Snider  both in town both called P.M.  Lindbloom gets in the calaboose(?) again.  Comer up we call the walnut lumber 2000 ft. and I give him my share of a/cs for the lumber and everything (?) the mill was.  The ground is getting very dry strong appearance of rain and sprinkled little in PM.  Jay Johnston has been tearing down old building N.W. corner of square since last Thursday morning, is going  to build a big block there.  Mostly cloudy day gobed 9 P.M.  quit tobacco again.

Clear, hazy. S.4.  There was strong S.E. or S. wind all night.  I hitch up AM.  Drive down to B.P. Andrews to see about account .  Harman phones about kitchen chimney at farm.  It must be fixed.  Tue went to R.C. at Pophams.  Monticue wants to buy bill board.  I went to Brown's for shave and haircut P.M. pd.  He cashed 5 ch for me.  Pay Ray up to last Thursday .70.  Tue went up to see Mrs. Brooks before supper.  Later she got riled and over to Groves ? where she stayed till after I went to bed.  She  is worried about  the young men.  Wants to get them out this week.  Harman did not appear.  Get letter from Mr. Oakley of Loxa calling for  fence paper &c  on house at Loxa.  Part clear day and the  warmest since Nov. 11.  It grew colder late P.M.  Sp rain 1 P.M.  Gobed 10 P.

Partly cloudy.   Carlo has been gone since last Saturday, we think he has been poisoned.  They have been killing dogs lately,  I sowed nitrate on strawberry bed.  Trimmed some peach trees in the AM.  Don't feel right though.  Frank McGurty was fined 85.00 and put in jail 10 days by Judge Hinley for selling whiskey without  license.  Comer was up says he has turn up getting ready to move mill.  Mrs. Perrill and Kate called toward night.  Tue working on dark blue dress for Maggie which she finishes.  Gobed 10.30 ~ clear day E. wind.

Cloudy and light snow flying  wind light northerly  Tue got up and made fire.  Self not feeling very well  Mrs. Perrill called while in morning.  Ollie Rosebraugh has been very sick for several days, but better today.  Seph hauls me three loads of manure and takes some lumber down to Nick place, also delivers load of wood to Brackett.  Takes pay in wood.  Zay Johnston speaks to me about Stevens note.  Learn that Dan Vansickle has sold the pony which he wanted to sell me.   Snider's hired girl  called P.M. says he is keeping "back" now with his children.  Tue went uptown P.M.  Pleasant day but chilly.  N.W. wind.  11P.M.

Clear with fresh N.E. wind.  There was an alarm of fire just as went to bed last night from Cash and Griffiths Store did not burn any though.  Tue working hard all day to  get ready for party of women tomorrow.  Mrs. Easton over AM again after dark.  Baby has  caught very bad cold.  Mostly clear day with N. wind.  throwing good deal ice sun.  Gobed 9.30 PM.

Clear wind S.  Tue got up at 5.30 and built a fire this morn.  Caylor delivers 2 cords  of wood to Ed Eastin.   Tues co. all came.  Mrs. Knocks, Grandena  Davis, Mrs. R. Davis, Kate Myer, Mrs. Feagan, Mrs. Perrill and Kate.  Father ate dinner at  H.G.s and self took lunch uptown.  Fatty  Knock repaired water pipes at store and turned on the water.  Tom Burk paid me 5.00 on a/c.  Went to Sam Rays toward night got lap robe, old coat and carpet from buggy.  Saw my rope hatter side curtains and rubber apron in buggy.  Clear day, wind SW gobed 9.30 PM.

Cloudy, wind W somewhat foggy.  Mrs. Rogers decides not to wash till next week.   Sam Goodrich helps pile up lumber on yard.  It does not suit mme very well.  There are about 2100 ft. mostly 2 in. plank.  Caylen takes cord of wood to C. Mason.  Pay Sam Ray 50.00 on a/c leaving bal due him of twenty or thirty dollars.  He wants a cord or two of wood.  Mrs. Ray is dangerously sick.  Stop at Fattys shop a while P.M.  Wrote to Brunce answer PC resd yest.  Clear P.M. awind W.  Go bed 9 P.M.  Baby has very bad cold she is a year old today.

Clear wind W.  white froswt.  Went down to Rays Stable and have error of 10.00 corrected.  Mrs. Ray very sick.  Caylor hauls some wood to C. Mason and bringa me a load of stable manure after dinner.  Uncle John was down to dinner.    Comer sent up some 4x5- 14  300 ft.  Pay Wade Hall 6.00 for hauling lumber   Jo Spuregean 91 cts.  Amt due Sam Ray to day in full for keeping horse is 30.00  he wants a cord or two of wood.  I told Bob Brown today that I would want my house in the woods.  Mostly clear pleasant day and the ground thawing out very fast.  Gobed 9.30 PM~

S.1.  Light fog.  Preston came in morn to talk over the situation.  He wants to quit our place and  rent from Hardin.  We decide to let him do as he desires but will stay if we say.  He decided to talk it over with Hardin and Harman and  might still decide to stay.  Mostly cloudy day  mist at times till near night.  Ther.  standing above 60 until 8 P.M. when cooler.  Strong southerly wind till in night.  Rain and mist say (.02)  I hitched up toward night and drove up town.  Tue attends Bizarre of Aide Society much of the day and went over to Grove's at night.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear. wind, N.W.  See Dr. Hall.  wood $1.00  Defenbaugh pays $1.55  Send 98 for old lumber out to coal shaft.  Ship Gin keg to E. Bryant at Bushton.  Taggart called at night and paid in full on wood 3.oo.  Tue not feeling well worse at night.  Maggie went to school but Phebe says she does not want to go  any more.  Mrs. Perrill over .  Kate called at night.  Comer was in town in morning.  Pay Milt Drake 13.00 on Comer order to use.  Crass banked up  south side of house under porch.  Settle up to date.  He owes me 75 cents and will help pile ties.  Gobed 10 P.M.
