June 3-4, 1890 and 1901 in Coles County Illinois

June 1890

3. Tuesday.  5 AM.  Clear and pleasant day but very warm.  Cut logs on ridge till noon finishing it.  P.M. worked along river having bad luck with two large trees.  All force hands cut logs today making about 3500 feet.  I start home about 5.30 P.M. getting there before 8  Find the girls both gone on visit to Berts.  Nick sick and H.G. grumbling  Clear day with southerly wind Tue has been cleaning house Mrs. Rogers helping  Gobed 10.30 P.M.

4.  Wednesday, 7 AM.  Stay at store most of day.  Nick did not come up and understand he is  sick abed.  Tue still cleaning house, thinks it will take all the week  Buddie very cross.  Welch takes lumber brought up for him except 4 sticks  Clear day signs of rain at night and light sprinkle at 10 P.M.  strong south wind all night  10.30 PM

June 1901

3. Monday.  5.30 A.M.  Ther.  58. 82. 63.  =  67.2/3
Cloudy with light rain, eastwind  Jubal Jones did not come today AM. as promised probably a/c of rain.  See him forenoon and he worked all of P.M. Beginning 12.25 They began grading Street back of us P.M (5th St,) but didn't get much done on it.   They may not change my crossing to street much if any.  I started to Gaines 2.15 P.M.  Jo working on southeast piece.  did not go down to where he was.  Mrs. Gobol and daughter there there  Mrs. G. papered E room last Sat. doing very good job.  I get home 6 P.M.  Jubal Jones worked till after . cleaning up yard and will come tomorrow morn.  Miss Ford has function in dining for supper.  Mostly clear day easterly wind  Gobed 9 P.M.

4.  Tuesday. - 5.45 AM.  ther.  63. 87.  73.  = 74 1/3
Fair SE wind.  Jubal came 6.20 AM. and worked till 4 P.M.  Cleaned up yard pretty well.  Cleaned out stable   I sold heifer calf today to Pinnell 4 1/2 c. weight 320.  Jube led him to W. & T. Scales.  Marie graduated today Grammer grade.  Ora called P.M. and attended exercises with Tue.  Probably warmest day we have had this year.  Mrs. Owens sick and did not wash as usual.  Fair day with fresh S.E. wind.  Lightning SE at night  Gobed 9.30 PM.

November 13-15, 1912 in Charleston, IL

13.  Wednesday.  6 A.M.  Ther.  46.  46.  42. = 44 2/3
Cloudy. W. 3.  Rhoda washes A.M.  Tue puts up a box of peas to send Buddy.  Quite a thunder show last night between 8 and 9 oc.  Rhoda  washes and works till noon.  Mrs. Galbreath did not come as promised.  Tue sends Buddy (and writes to her at night) another box of peas also another  package ~  I did not  hitch up nor go up town.  Helen Ferrish called an hour or two P.M.  Tue up town later.  Muggs down to Lelas at night.  Mostly cloudy with strong N. W. wind.  Go bed 10.

14.  Thursday.  6.15 AM.      Ther.  38.  46.  34. = 39 1/3
Cloudy.  N.W. 3  Fullers deliver 5 tons coal A.M.  He got stuck at coming  in from back St.  Rhoda ironed P.M.  Muggs and Tue busy getting ready to start for Jeff. City next Monday morn.  Didn't hitch up - too cold at night.  Mostly clear day, strong northerly winds.  Read a while  in Chamber at night.  Go bed 8.30

15.  Friday. 6 AM.  Ther.  24.  48.  34.  = 35 1/3
Clear. N.1.  heavy white frost. ice 3/8 in tub.  Coldest morn to date and get good fire in furnace by 8 AM.   Harman phones AM.  Ss will finish 30 a piece tomorrow.  had intended  going out but too cold.  Tue  and Muggs busy sewing &c.  Muggs has  party at night Grace, Dora, Hat, Johnston and others - cards.  Tue sells old cook stove and gets new Majestic range which they put up late evening.  Get 1/2 gal a varnish for furnace.  I drove out to Huffmans late P.M.  Clear day light variable winds.  Gobed 9 P.M.
