Part cloudy SE1.  Walter  came in 5 AM.  I drove down by Millers but did not see him.  Get color card from Briggs and try to select colors for repainting.  They don't have my selections in stock.  Walter not feeling well.  He left for home in night after I had retired.   I noticed a good deal of fungi today but saw nothing of the kind.  Mostly clear P.M. southerly wind gas smell.  Helen Hildreth  called toward night on her way to Normal.  The roads are fine.  Bill Hatton has moved to B st.  I didn't talk to him.  Gobed 9 PM.

Clear partly.E.1.  Very heavy dews lately.  I broke blue butter plate an old relic.  Drive down to see Miller.  He was shingling for son will come tomorrow morn.  I drove up to Thos. Briggs P.M. getting one gal. No. 336 and 2 half gals 147 also gal  linseed oil.  Will try these colors.  Tue takes park out  cleans it off and renews brini later she went up town and to Hats at night she went to church and didnot get home I had retired.  Mostly cloudy with sprinkles rain several times.  Small rainbow SE at sunset.  I drove out far as Huffmans late P.M.  No fungi appear but appears like good weather for them   Gobed 8.30

Clear S.1.  Drive 9 AM with Tue and Charles out to Huffmans.  Stop at Jessie Dunns.  John Simon passed through, said was going to Mattoon.  Harman phones that got home Wednesday.  Wants to cut clover for seed.  Another very sultry day.  thunder showers 3 P.M. .15 in. here, much heavier E.  I drove after 4 P.M. to Westfield bridge getting home 6.30.  One of the Wrights has started small store at top of the hill.  Part cloudy day; light variable winds.  Jessie and Mary Ann called at night and they went up to show.  Go bed 9

S.1.  After getting paper drive west and S.W.  An aviator makes two flights today at Urban Park.  At Clover Leaf high bridge I heard their machine and could see part of the flight from the bridge at distance of about a mile N.W.  My first sight of a flying machine.  I return by Bunk hill getting home about noon.  Mrs. Brooks over P.M. and I drove with Buddy and Chas. on Ashmore road to Huckaba road returning S. road.  One of hottest days.  Light variable winds Thunder shs (sic) around, no rain here.  Go bed 9

Most cloudy.  S.1.  There is quite a stir in town today.  The county fair begins tomorrow.  Drive up to  Grims for cabbage get can buttermilk at Creamery.  Too warm for me to do much.  Harman called P.M. but didn't seem to have any biz. and just called.  Heavy thunder E. and S. much of P.M.  What looked like heavy showers S. say 5 P.M.  Drive with Buddy over S. part town late P.M.  Mrs. Grove spends much of P.M. here.  Mr. Bell very feeble.  Learn that Ike Finch is dead.  Much cloudy.  P.M. go bed 9

Got to woods at 8.30  Clouds over and rains before 11 oc.  Men got in 3/4 day.  Bob Brown brings w/ load of lumber.  Men made some  posts today have about decided to build a large sheep farm.  Men quit at 3.30 P.M.  I drove home in the rain slow rain most of P.M.  Gobed 9 PM.

Cloud and damp got to woods at 10 AM,  Three of men at work on hillside near spring.  Jo Handley's child died last night and was buried today.  Republican meeting down in Hutton Township.  Heat very oppressive today.  Damp and hot cloudy forenoon clear P.M.  Got home at 7 P.M.  Tue not very  well, baby better than she has been for long time.  Am very well.  Satified with clearing job so far.  Gobed  9.30  PM

Clear S.W.1.  Self feel worse than usual this morn.  This seems to be the case most of the time lately.  Hitch up however.  The was an alarm of fire about noon.  It proved to be along clover Leaf west of town.  Buddy has toothextracted and feels badly all day.  I drove up to Creamery toward night for cream and an Auto bumped into my buggy pretty hard but did not break anything.  Tue and girls attend picture show at night leave me at home with Charles.    Clear day  with strong S.W. wind  The drouth is becoming more serious.  Corn went up two cents in Chicago today.  Gobed 10 P

SW.2   Walter got home about 5 AM.  This proved to be one of  hottest to date.  I did  not hitch up  until after 6 on afc of the heat.  I drove up for tobacco and west to Huffman's.  The rest of the folks  took a walk to Normal toward night.  Helen and Gus with George call at night.  They had been  at a function in town.  Part cloudy day with strong SW wind.  There were heavy clouds east before sunset looked like a shower coming up.  It all melted away after sunset went down.  Walter left for Mt. Carmel 2.30 AM (16th)  Folks sent up for some ice cream for supper.    I kept still all day but am tired and worn out at night.  Gobed 10P

Clear.  S.W. 2.  Walter left 2.30 A.M.  Expected to hear from Phelps today in refernce to my letter about altering buggy.  there was an alarm of fire today.  Tue is fixing for a function ~ Helen and other friends.  H.G.'s expecting to move from the Clark house.  I drove up at noon for ice cream and think ate too much.  Students for summer term at normal arrive:  the cars are loaded with them mostly female.  Today has been a scorcher:  everything is drying up.  Deer potato patch has given up.  I might have put temperature at 102.  Have not much confidence in present thermometer.  I kept quiet most of the day but drive west to Huffmans toward night.  Mostly clear day light SW wind.  Some clouds P.M.  Gobed 10.

Clear. SW>1.  Phone J.O.M. and get same P.M.  Tue and girls work AM for function  Helen and Geo. Louise and Virginia:  Jessie Maffett down with  Mary Jane and Leona Ferrish Snider made the party.  An awful hot day - the record to date for season.   I drove up for hammock AM at W.E. Hills 3.00.   I work hard all day trying to keep cool.  Today has cooked our little garden all at once and none of gardens can last long in this heat.  I spent hottest part of P.M> in wood pile in backyard.  Learn that H.G. have  moved to near McCall grocery.  I drove lots P.M. up by Dicewood met steam thresher and return.  everyone about played out with heat.  Gobed 10 Lightning E at night.  Northerly wind.

Clear.  S.W.2.  Rhoda washes and irons till 3 P.M.  I got  shave and haircut at Browns pd .40.  This weather is getting the best of me and perhaps  others.  Harman phones asking advice about  crops that are burning up.  What can I do?  Says he has cut clover SW of orchard 10 A.  and got say five tons clover hay.  Is thinking of replanting S.W. pierce of  corn.  Has not planted any B.C. yet: has about forty acres ready for it.  I did not go up town, nor did hitch up.  It clouds up some  toward night and good deal of lightning and some thunder about bedtime.   Mrs. Dr. Shafer took Tue, Phebe, Marie and Charles out in her new Auto after supper an hour or two.  The river water is railey and smells badly today.  Mosquitoes were never so numerous here as now:   think they breed in culverts along branch.  Gobed 9.30 P.M.  Bm pise at it.

Part cloudy 1.  This moon puts me out of horse feed.  I could not sleep for mosquitoes.  They seem to get through the screams.  This proved to be the warmest day to date this season.  Buddy went to sewing party at Gaines P.M.   I did not hitch up  till nearly night:  Then I took Tue and Charles a  drive going as far as Watson's returning by the road.  Corn and oats along road look better than expected.  Cassell creek is nearly dry.  We got home before dark.  Fern called later Part cloudy day.  Threatins(sic) light showers but didn't rain.  Gobed 9  Ord.  bu. oats and bale straw of I.B.M.

Clear, NE.2 Ray reported yesterday that was not able to work any more after hitching I drove down to Fritz's.  He will work for me Monday and longer after dinner Tue and Muggs attend picture show at C.H.  I stay at home sleeping and reading.  Take first chew of tob. since Christmas today.  It did not agree with me.  Tue got home at 6 P.M.    I drive to creamery for cream.  Muggs got in at bedtime.  Tue spent evening at Grove's getting home after 9.  I took mare to Nickles.  Part cloudy with fresh NE wind.  Not much crowd in town.  Chilly have furnace fire.  Gobed 9.30

Clear mostly N.E. 3.  I order mare for 8 AM thinking of trip to Loxa, but too chilly for the drive.  Neither Tue nor Muggs go to church.  I make lot of card boxes for my tomato plants.    my mouth not to painful but feel badly.  The boys did not play ball on library lot today for some reason.  Phones Thomas Shera and wife call to see Maggie 4 P.M.  I drive out far as  I drive out far as Huffmans at 6 P.M.  Clear day; moderate SE wind gobed 10 P.M.

S.E.4.  Fritz came 7 AM working all day.  Spaded and plant some garden, trim some: mows yard first time this season  went to R.R. with me: will come tomorrow.  I look at fence at Davis and at Andrews paying BPA & Co. 100.00  Mare scared at a car at lumber yard.  Maggie gets ready and starts back to her work at Jeff City going on 2.14 P.M. train which was nearly an hour late.  Mrs. Grove over at night and she with Tue went  over to Mrs. Leroy's.  Mostly clear day with strong SE wind AM light hazy.  H.G. pays for old watch.  Gobed 10 AM

S.3.  Rhoda wash early &c.  Hitch up AM driving out to Watson corner.  Went south road returning N.  There was no mud nor water anywhere.  Tue worried because Phebe does not write.  Mare had bad scare near Huffmans - telephone men stringing wire.  Tue potted ferns taking one to Mrs. Bell.  The Bell's are building same.  Mrs. K he R has new tenant-moved in yesterday.  Rhoda irons P.M.  Self "rest" most of P.M.  Tue grunting think caught cold last night.  Ray does chores and let him go.  Paid in full 75 cts.  Promised to come Sat. morn and work a while.  Part clear day with violent southerly wind and signs of rain toward nigh.  Official report rain tonight and colder.  Sprinkle rain 5.30 P.M.  Read A. Partly clear, smoky.  Strong S. wind Laudes sawing up maple sticks on yard.  Get gray horse of Sam Ray and Hills out to Trowers woods to see Kible and Rutherford.  They have been down to look at timber and think they will move down make and send ties.  Began to rain about noon and rained lightly most of times till night.  Strong S. wind all day.  Gobed 10 PM.

Clear S.3.  Helen Hildreth called a while AM on her way to the Normal.  Tue attended the Rankin Funeral P.M. with Mrs. Brooks.  At night she went with Mrs. Curd to concert at Normal.  I hitched up about noon and after Ray got shores done He went with me up town.  Pay A.G. Frommel a/c to date 12.30 check.  Will Campbell 35 cts cash.  Got some eggs Helen left at IBs.  went to P.O. no mail.  Drove out far as Huffamns Ray going.  Meet Harman going home.  He had bought a pump at Olivers my a/c.  I did not tell him to.  Clear day with high southwind.  Was surprised to find the roads dry most of the way.  He supposed the mud deep.  Tue got home 10 oclock.  Gobed 10.

Clear, light white frost.  Went to s(?) Rays in morning to look at house to ride but did not see one I would like to try.  Measure up wood on yard.  there is just about  8 1/2  cords.  Gueney wants half a cord tomorrow morning.  This is about the first spring day we have had.  Mostly  clear with light south wind.  The ground  is frozen pretty solid on N. side of house.  Kates Myers and Davis over P.M.  9.30 ~~

Part cloudy, red clouds. S.3.  Tue irons most of AM. and Keeps on.  I sort out old junk in shed and clean off mare AM. John Simon calls after dinner reporting everything all right at ranch.  One King from Diona called PM wanting to cut some  poles , I refused.  Phoned J.E.W. morn for same. Hitch up before  Ray came and he went with me to Interurban fore for Bill in same.  Stopping at P.O., coming home.I got letter from Phebe she was yet in Chicago at Gages 12th inst.  Later I drove out to Huffmans returning S.road.  It is not as muddy as I supposed.  They have been erecting frame for big water tank opposite Interurban on Monroe street since I was down that way Jan. 30.  Ray rode to Division with me.  Tue went up town after I got home about 6 P.M.  Several dogs have been poisoned in neighborhood lately.  The roads not so bad as supposed.  I get Andrews bill today it is much larger than had expected.  It includes all at farm.  Roof rc for barn and roof and stripping for BC shed also current and lumber for Extension WC SW corner of house and repairs  on Loxa house.  Mostly clear till P.M. wind got NW and cloudy.  Papers predict cold wave.  The snow is gone except patches on North hillsides.  Go bed 9 P.M.

cloudy N.2.  Tue retired latae last night leaving cellar lights on  they burn till 7.30 AM.  Tue slept till nearly 9 oc.  She attended church with Mrs. Brooks AM.  Getting paper which is now 5 cts. instead of 6 as formerly for a year or two past.  She went calling with Mrs. Brooks P.M.  I wait for Ray to come to help hitch up but did it self before he arrived.  I drive SW Keeping pave and gravel till turn E. OakRidge SH.  Chilly driving roads generally muddy wind getting in S. clouds up.  I got home 5.30 Tue later.  Tue writing Marie tonight.  The lights were all out for a while about 9.  Mostly clear, varible winds light rain 9 P.M. and later.  Gobed.9.

Drove E. on  Westfield road a mile.  They have been scraping it.  The roads are worse than yest.  Met J.E.M. near Crums store.  Clear Day light variable winds becoming southeasterly at night.  Gobed 9.P.

Clear S.E.3.  There was strong southeasterly wind all night.  One of young men (Lee) roomers thinks has measles and keeps his bed A.M.  Tue prepariing for R.C. Function at Jo Reats this P.M.  I hitch up 11 A.M.  Find the terrapins in box since last Aug. doing well.  Supposed they were dead.  Lee finds he has Measles and goes home with friend to recover P.M.

Part cloudy S.2.  There was light rain in night about 12 and after (.17 in.)  David came 7 A. and worked all day Pd 3.50 for yest and today.  Got Colby to repair the hydrant.  It was pretty well worn out.  David laid good tile wastes from it to 5th ST. and get everything in good shape again.  Tue iron most of  day.  I drove out to Huffmans late P.M.  Dirt road only damp but will soon be dry~~  Tue got long letter from Buddy.  She didn't talk much like coming home Christmas.  Neither does Muggs.  We are looking for Phebe this week.  Mostly clear day with moderate S. to W. wind.  Go bed 8.30

Donsch $5.60 @ 7c. which they sent down after dark.  Comer thinks they  can go to hauling Monday if it does not rain before.  Hat was down in the morning.  Gobed.  10 P.M.
