August 22-23, 1913 & 1888 in Charleston, Illinois232

1913

22.  Friday.  5.30  AM.  Ther.  70.  80.  68.  =72 2/3
Clear. N.W.3.  Skinners stay to breakfast after which he and Walter went to fair.  Marie and Walter went P.M. leaving Chas with Tue and we drive E. to Huckaba road late P.M. getting home 5.30.  Mr. Beeman of Mt. Carmel, a friend of Walter came to supper.  He is exhibiting P.C. hogs at fair.  The  late rain help corn a little grass and weeds are starting .  Helen and Leona call at night.  clear day with fresh NW wind.  Shave self AM.  Neither self nor Tue has attended the fair.  Gobed 10 P.M.

23.  Saturday. 4.45 AM.  ther.  58.  80.  68.  = 68 2/3
Clear.  NW 1.  Walter, Marie and Chas, start for Hindsboro on 6  AM train.  Skinner stayed the night and returned home with them.  I drove down past Normal AM.  One  Harris rode to town with me.  Spend an hour or two hunting for map of Ill which have lost.  Tue went to Hats P.M. staying till p P.M.  H & H here again living in Hutton house.  I drive down by  Woodson's Kickapoo farm returning by wrights.  getting home 6.30  Made batch of mush for supper.  Mostly clear moderate northwesterly winds.  Gobed  9

22.  Wednesday.   5.30 AM.  Ther.  53.  75.  59.
Clear,  N.E.  wind  Phebe cried again most of night with her face it was very much swollen broke this AM and she is better tonight.  Start for timber at 7.45.  Roads very muddy part of the way.  Nobody at work everybody gone to Diona to some meeting except Bob Brown mending wagon.  Look out (?) for west part of road and start home at 4 P.M. coming by Wilkins.  Cow did not come home tonight.  7 Gobed

23.  Thursday  5.45  ther.  47.  75.  58.
Clear.  Phebe not feeling very well yet.  Start for lumber at 7.15 got home at 6.30 P.M.  Six men worked today.  Put on one new man.  Oce Bennett.  Work  P.M. cleaning on road west of house.  Clear and cool day with N.E. wind AM and S.W. P.M.  Bob Stitt mending wagon.  Roads dry  but rough.  8.30 P.M.

August 12 - 15, 1913 in Charleston, Illinois

12.  Tuesday.  5 AM.  Ther.  74.  88.  80.  =  80 2/3
Cloudy.  N.2.  Tue  up and around but perhaps not feeling very well.  We get letter from Phebe also from Muggs.  Storm from NW comes  up suddenly.   It got very dark and threatening but cleared off after a dash of rain.  Rhoda did not come to wash and I drove over to investigate late P.M.  She will come tomorrow.  Dr. Brooks has Jack Walker making him concrete front steps.  From Rhoda's I drove S. return S. side Normal grounds and up to Abbotts.  Didn't see him his wife says he will come.  Drive round to Seiberts to show defective wheels.  Saw and talked with L.E. Barnes when there  He is talking of buying the Meek shop & opposite Seibert's Shop.  Kate Davis is here visiting from Seattle.  Much cloudy AM and night showers.  Vriable wind  .28 in.  Gobed 9.

13.    Wednesday.  5 AM.  Ther.  74.  86.  76.  =  78 2/3
Part cloudy S.1. lt. rain.  Rhoda washed  Abbott came and worked the day.  Clean off garden sow turnip, hoes out what little stuff we have.  I plant beans and radish.  Abbott has sold out and will move to Clark Co in a few days his present wife here most of P.M.  I phone J.E. Mc AM but gone to Paris get him at noon and order same which I get late P.M.  Part cloudy day with light showers in all amounting to .36 in.  Gobed 10 P.M.

14.  Thursday.  6 AM.  Ther.  74.  90.  80.  =  81 1/3
Cloudy. S.1.  light rains early morn say till 7 AM .32 in.  H.G. called AM.  For some time has been living in Hutton house.  He works for Corner Soft drink.  Simon called yesterday and I give him WO (sic) tree he wanted to  buy.  Rhoda irons P.M.  I drive S. and E. to River E. of JW Kings quite a  good stream running but think most comes from Kickapoo.  It will take heavy rains to reach the streams.  Roads and fields look about as dry as ever.  Got home 7.30.  Tue, Bud and Chas. out till 9 P.M.  Most clear P.M. light variable winds.  Gobed 9

15.  Friday.  5.30 AM.  ther.  74.  96.  86.  = 85 1/3
Clear S.1.  Get shave at Brown's after breakfast. Cr.  White sends man to  repair W.C. and Kitchen faucets.  Pay Bert Gilman water rate to Jany. 1914, 6.00  Drive out by J.B. Hills before dinner.  Dr. Pattons "pumpkin patch" is pretty  well dried up.  Tue  got letter from Phebe.  Tue , Buddy and Chas. to Brook's at night part cloudy with light variable winds.  Thunder shower 2.30 P.M. with .18 in. rain.  very oppressive today.  clear mostly at night.  Gobed 9
