Mostly cloudy. 9. S.4.  there was fresh wind all night with sprinkle R.  Emmett came at 7 A.  Finish mow yard.  Dig up old raspberry patch and set two rows N & S, west of pear tree.  Spades balance of garden.  Plant beans and peas.  Fastens up rosebush south of house.  Went to Country P.M. clean up lot and sow another dose of grass seed.  Last year's sowing did not do well.  We returned 4 P.M. pay ch 2.10 in full to date.  Mrs. Harman and friend tie horse in barn.  Mostly cloudy AM. light rain an hour or so.  I felt very unwell and did not go up town any more.  Tue went after supper.  Gob 9.30

Cloudy.  Heavy fog and mist wetting like rain.  Talk a while with Mr. Warman early AM.  Hitch up early to take Tue out to Helen's.  She didn't  get  ready till about 11 AM.   Louise and daughter there.  I would not stay to dinner but drove southwest two or three  miles returning by Mat Brown's getting home 2 P.M.  Tue kept key to back door making it inconvenient.  Grove's were anxious to come over but would  not in her absence.  The country looks very dry.  The roads are good:  many of them have been draged(sic).  Peaches, pears plums and cherries have been in full bloom for past week.  Mostly clear day.  Tue came home 7.30 car  gobed 9.30

Cloudy E. wind.  Milt Drake was up with his first load of wood which he took to S E  Ray.  he and Johnny Drake will work the loads Monday and Tuesday.  Uncle John down to dinner.  Will send a lot of cones down to woods Monday.  Chilly day S. wind business pretty good.  I quit using tobacco today.  Gobed 11 P.M.

Cloudy S.E.1. Light R. began in night.  Bowles not any worse.  I build a fire in furnace 10.30 AM. to dru off the damp mess.  The atmosphere is loaded with moisture.  A light drizzle all AM does not better things.  It continued to drizzle till say  2 PM.  Meas at 3 P 53 Tue got some "Cod" fish last evening which is too different.  Tue attends RC PM at Dillards with her article on Margaret Fuller.  She  got home 4.30 and later went up town Learn that Ruth Talbot died yesterday  Uncle John died nineteen years ago today.  Cloudy day think sun out once.  SE wind till toward noon when shifted to light northerly.  The Groves were over to 10. P.M.

Cloudy, heavy fog E.2. Supposed would be much colder, but not so.  The cold wave passed a thousand miles NW and North of us.  Get letter from Chickerings and sons regarding old piano. No. 1049.  It was  sold from him factory to Mr. William Savage of Boston Mass.  Apl. 24, 1832.  That was ten years before I was born. Frank Wilson died today.  Harman brought me sack of oats  first time in long time.  I owe him for same.  He drove in to Ruth Talbotts funeral at 2.30 P.M.  Tue attended same.  I hitch up late P.M.  driving up town.  Later got shoe at Evan's pd 50.  Mrs. Curd was over after supper.  She went with Tue to Grove's and elsewhere till after I retire.  Mostly cloudy day light E. to S. wind.  Gobed 9

Cloudy thick fog. S.E.1.  There was light rain about 4 AM. Sham Self did fine job- no blood.  It took rest of AM to oil buggy repair harness and harness mare.  Tue  attends church AM.  We had dinner about 1oc.  By time I got ready  to take drive it began to drizzle.  In driving out of shed about 4 PM. came near wrecking shed and other things.  I drove round by Sanitarium and got home time to miss showers, all rain today .15 in.  Streets very sloppy.  Grass and weeds are growing.  Gobed 9.30

N.2.  Tue was expecting woman to wash.  She phoned she couldn't come.  Miller called AM for ladder.  Says will finish painting soon as weather predicts.  Catharine and Betty Shaffer call to  play an hour or two play an hour or two A.M.  Steve Decker was here wanting work.  He lives at N. E. of 11th St.  Gus got  old shelfing with drawers.  Frank M. Wilson buried today.  Tue has trouble finding was woman.  She mops kitchen P.M.  I walk up town P.M. Pay Charleston taxes at Court House 118.98 which makes our total tax 319.54.  The highest on record I think for us.  Tue spent evening at Groves.  Cloudy light northerly winds 9 PM.

Mc early for "same" and try to see him when passing uptown but didn't.  I hitch up mare A  Mostly cloudy day with easterly light wind becoming southerly.  Gobed 8.30M.   She acts very bad.  Curry her off  She is very dirty.   I went up to Interurban Sta for same.  Saw Latta who has bought house near Sta.  Get same about noon.  I drove south to Phipps and return.  the gravel and other roads pretty bad.  I got back 6.  Mostly cloudy day with easterly light wind becoming southerly.  Go 8.30.

March 1914 Weather

The Weather &c at Charleston, Ill for March 1914.  Mean temperature 41.  Max 70 on 15.25 and 29th Min 10 on 1st.  Clouds 49 1/2 % Precipitation 1.16 inches on fourteen days.  Snow about 3 inches in light falls on nine days  Winds ~ North 4 2/3;  N.E. 3;  E. 2 1/3;  S.E. 1 2/3;  S. 6; S.W. 3 2/3;  W. 4 2/3 and N.W. 5 days.  The precipitation has been light with much damp foggy weather.  The roads are  pretty bad (Mar. 31) gravel roads mushy in many places.  Roads have been worse early in month and were better about middle.  No farming done yet.  Rains have kept people out of their ground.  Grass growing fine in yard and will soon need mower.  Eggs    .  Butter country 30.  Oats Corn  Hogs  .  the wagon yard has been  closed to country people several weeks.  The city can't afford to pay rent on same.

Clear.  S.2.  Start Loxa 6 AM and get home 9.15 AM.  Hugh working for A. Moore.  Helps me measure lot 218 ft.  Buy 2 ties Geo. Anderson.  Stop at Jones: pay him a/c to date 90 cts cash.  Start to go up to place but decide to go home at once.  Don't seem to find fence I want: look at Mercantile stock AM.  Give saw to file to Moody.  Emmett came early:  plants in garden, rake off yard began on S.R. ash pit sent lawn mower to  Chas Wells for treatment.  He  returned it PM. pd. .50c.  After finish ashes Emmett with me looks over pasture fence and spend hour or two hunting post digger which couldn't find.  I drove over to Anderson for saw and came near a runaway.  Raymond got saw for me Tue over at Mrs. Bro(?) P.M. getting home 6.30.  Emmett worked all day and will work tomorrow.  Most clear hazy day.  S.W.4.  Get booze P.M.  Interurban owe me dime.  Tue over at Brooks P.M. and at Grove's at night at night.  I slept on couch till 9 when go to bed.  E. Clear, NE.2 Ray reported yesterday that was not able to work any more after hitching I drove down to Fritz's.  He will work for me Monday and longer after dinner Tue and Muggs attend picture show at C.H.  I stay at home sleeping and reading.  Take first chew of tob. since Christmas today.  It did not agree with me.  Tue got home at 6 P.M.    I drive to creamery for cream.  Muggs got in at bedtime.  Tue spent evening at Grove's getting home after 9.  I took mare to Nickles.  Part cloudy with fresh NE wind.  Not much crowd in town.  Chilly have furnace fire.  Gobed 9.30

Clear mostly N.E. 3.  I order mare for 8 AM thinking of trip to Loxa, but too chilly for the drive.  Neither Tue nor Muggs go to church.  I make lot of card boxes for my tomato plants.    my mouth not to painful but feel badly.  The boys did not play ball on library lot today for some reason.  Phones Thomas Shera and wife call to see Maggie 4 P.M.  I drive out far as  I drive out far as Huffmans at 6 P.M.  Clear day; moderate SE wind gobed 10 P.M.

S.E.4.  Fritz came 7 AM working all day.  Spaded and plant some garden, trim some: mows yard first time this season  went to R.R. with me: will come tomorrow.  I look at fence at Davis and at Andrews paying BPA & Co. 100.00  Mare scared at a car at lumber yard.  Maggie gets ready and starts back to her work at Jeff City going on 2.14 P.M. train which was nearly an hour late.  Mrs. Grove over at night and she with Tue went  over to Mrs. Leroy's.  Mostly clear day with strong SE wind AM light hazy.  H.G. pays for old watch.  Gobed 10 AM

R to 7 AM for yest. and last night.  Ray did not come.  Rhoda came to wash  say 10 AM.  Tue went to Mrs. Moore's funeral P.M. and over to house A.M.  Helen Hildreth comes P.M. and stays the night.  She with Tue went over to  Grove's after supper staying till 9 oc.  I kept house all day in fact it rained lightly most of the time.  Got late letter from Maggie.  Tue writing to girls after getting home self gobed 9 PM.  Cloudy day E. wind.  R  .57 to 7 AM (10th)

Clear A.M. with E. wind clouds up.  Maggie went to S.S.  My cold was so bad that I stayed around the house all day.  Very sore after my ride yesterday, much have ridden as much as thirty miles, which is the first riding have done for a dozen years.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Seftons death at 8 this AM will be buried Sat. 10 AM.  I hitch up in part but didn't drive.  Tue over to Grove's at night.  Much cloudy and very windy day.  Wind shifts to westerly with sp. rain late afternoon, more at night and quite heavy showers at times in night growing colder all day:  furious wind all night, near hurricane toward morn.  Rain to 7 AM (21) .60  Gobed 10.15

Cloudy W.7.  The wind drove me out early.  It was a reglur (sic) cyclone.  Dessy Wright who used to work here called AM.  Tue gets first letter from Phebe for two or three weeks.  Harman phones that window at farm blown in and broken.  He was sowing oats yesterday but failed to sow clover seed.  Tue gets ready and starts for Mt. Carmel at 3.14 P.M. train.  Wentz takes her to depot.  Phone H.G. to please bring up my booze which he did about dark staying an hour or two.  Cold windy day about freezing much of time.  Part cloudy clear at night.  I sleep upstairs.  Gobed 9

Cloudy, foggy N.E.2.  Law is getting ready to quit.  He has  feared to get out  on a/c of Measles.  Lee has already left Tue says taking key ~~  The sun appears about noon.  It began light rain 2 oc. and showers till 8 P.M. from light to heavy.  I spend  much of P.M. reading over old letters mostly H.Gs. war letters.  Tue went up town P.M.  Cloudy day with moderate northerly winds.  Gobed 9.30.

Clear. N.1.  Ice  1/16 white frost.  Tue over at Grove's AM.  Helen Hildreth called.  Tue sends some papers, Couriers, to Muggs and Phebe.  Helen repoprts Charley sick at Decatur.  She visited him last week.  Hitch up 3 P.M. drive up and pay personal tax 3.55  R.E. Taxes are rather higher than usual our tax in Charleston besides Per. 110.06.  Harry Wright is collector at Co. Teas. Off.  Later drive S. on 4th St. to Lincoln return by Division and Jackson.  Lincoln although graveled is very bad.  I feared to venture on any dirt road.  Mr. Law was up town for first since the measles.  The  boys are preparing to leave us, Mostly clear day N. to Easterly light winds southerly at night with gas smell.  Tue got Treasure Island at library O. night.  Gobed 9 P

Cloudy with nearly S. wind, was some rain in the night.  Try again to make out list of trees to order but didn't do it.  Snider called about noon but did not stay to dinner. He has got a woman and her son to live with him.  R. Rutherford and friend called to see about ties.  H.G.  called for some stuff.  I went uptown about  3 P.M. saw Dock Dunbar & Co.  Light rain most of the day heavier toward night wind changed to  NW about 4 PM.  Gobed 9 PM

Clear with NW wind which blew all night and all day.   Very muddy.  Frost is about out of the ground.  Clear day.  Tue went over to F. Knocks leaving baby with me and grandpa.  Girls took a walk toward night.  Kate Davis called while Tue as at Knocks.  I  went up to store before dinner.  Think there is about a cord of wood missing from the yard.  Gobed 9 PM.

Cloudy.  NN.E.3.  Light fog.  We see by yesterday's paper that Florence Gaines at Loxa has  boy born yesterday.  Learn this morn that Walter Linder is dead at hospital in Chicago.  Tie up brush broom for Tue A.M.  The RC will not meet tomorrow.  Mr. Law on sick list and keeps his room much of day.  Cloudy day dark and damp. Quarter  of inch fine snow fell after dark.  Self feel poorly.  Have been reading too much as well as eating too much.  Gobed 7.30.

Cloudy. N.2.  The trouble in Mexico has been filling the papers for several days.  Mr. Lee who has recovered from measles resumes room today.  I supposed he had left.  Tue and self both not well and we attribute same to  too much graham flour.  Mostly clouday (sic)  day with N. to Easterly light winds.  I shaved myself late P.M.  The little snow of last night disappeared and another one came late P.M. and tonight say 2 1/2 inches.  Tue went  over to Groves the evening getting home about 10 P.M.  The snow was from easterly, began say 3 P.M. and yielded .23 in Precipitation.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Average daily mean 31.14 Maximum 66 on 19th Minimum.  0. on 5th Precipitation 1.79 in about half of it being melted snow.  there was about 8 inches of snow.  Cloudiness 44%.  Prevailing winds north and southerly thus N. 6 2/3;  N.E. 1 1/3;  SE 2 1/3; S 4 2/3;  SW 5; W. 4. and NW 3 days.  All roads have been very bad were getting good until this week.  The ground Mar. 1 covered by two  or three inches snow.  There has been  little changes in prices  Hogs are going up Ave 8.60 in  Chicago.   Corn , here, say 40c  oats 30.  Butter 30 to 40  Eggs 25.  They are still working on water tank on Monroe ST.  Have two sections of tank up and the connecting pipe in place.  I have not been up then for two weeks.  The Council are thinking of installing meters for the water.

N.W.2.  Ray came 7 AM. cleans off snow working over an hour.  Walter Linder was buried today.  Tue  ironing much of A.M.  Ellen Elkins called about noon in on her way to Bushton.  Mr. Laws, the roomer is down with measles.  Tue was uptown late. P.M. getting grub, bacon, etc.  Mostly clear day did not effect snow much.  Clouding up toward night with snow flurries and growing colder with high westerly wind all night.  Gobed 9

About clear, strong W wind all night.  Cold day with west wind, cloudy and snow flying much of the time and seems to be growing colder.  Girls went to S.S. and after that went down to Hat's where they ate dinner getting home about 1. P.M.  Mrs. Davis was over toward night.  Has been  cold and disagreeable day frozen up solid again.  Go bed 10. PM.

Clear S.2.  Rhoda got here to wash before Tue was down.  She washed and did other work till noon staying to dinner.  Tue attends sewing party at Lulu Dorsch's.  Hitch up about noon but did not use mare till near night.  She made bad break in turning on W. side and came near accident.  Tue  got home before 6.  She spent evening at Grove's.  Mostly clear day hazy.  some cloudy at night.  The warmest day for many weeks.  Gobed 8.30

Cloudy N.2.  Dark morning.  Light fog.  Tue goes out to Helens for day on 10 car, returns at 5 P.M.  Paid water rates 6.00 to July 1 to girl yesterday.  I hitch up noon but did not use the mare.  Ray comes at 4.  There is not much choring to do now and we are thinking of letting him go.  Mostly cloudy damp day.  the sun just shone once about 10 AM.  Light northerly winds.

Cloudy. E.2. foggy.  Tue tries another batch of bread.  She went to RC at Mrs. Reats P.M. It began light rain 2 P.M.  I get shave at Brown's P.M. pd.  Met Uncle Billy Whalan.  He is 82.  Also meet Chas Steigman, Geo Steigman better and able to be uptown.  I hitch up at  noon but didn't drive on account of the rain.  Light showers till dark with a little thunder about 4 P.M. Ray did chores leaving basement lights on again till bedtime.  Tue intended to attend reception at Rev. Piers but did not feel able to go.  She also had tickets for show at Opera House but didn't  use them.  cloudy day E to S. wind and .10 in rain P.M.  Gobed 9

Clear.  S.W.2.  I slept well, and found W.C. alright when got up.  Tue spends much of day writing to Muggs.  I copy two recipes for same~~  Harman called P.M.  Has been to a sale and sells an old mare for say 17.50.  Reports the roads good.  Mostly cleat day moderate westerly winds.  Self not feeling pretty well., worse at night and didn't sleep good.   Gobed.9

W. 1.  The air full of fog and frost.  Tue went to church AM getting Sunday R.H.  Shave self all right AM.  We had dinner 1 P.M.  this the warmest day for a week or two and the snow is settling.  Mostly cloudy light SWS winds ~~  Self complain of stiff neck all day.  Tue went to Grove's from after dark till 10 oc.  Gobed 10  Jack had fit in house at night.

Sandy uptown, he came down to house at night.  Snider was here to dinner.  Mrs. Rogers ironed in afternoon.  Tue went up town to buy some things P.M.  Mrs. haw is better today.  Curt Davis baby is very sick with whooping cough.  Cloudy or hazy day forenoon, light snow most of P.M. about two inches falling and growing colder.  Gobed 10.30 P.M.

Mostly cloudy, wind easterly.  One of the coldest mornings we have had.  M & P went to school.  M.S. Dowling and H.G.  call on me.  Scott and Den Dowling have a sale tomorrow.  Still chewing tobacco, have tried to quit, but have not been able to make it stick yet.  Curt Davis little baby died today of whooping cough.  Sell Jim Campbell half cord of wood.  John Rice will pay for it.  Ed Eastin says he will wand cord tomorrow.  He says his mother is sick.  Mostly clear day with north wind.  Gobed 10 P.M.~~

S.W. 3.  Tue attended the Rardin funeral and church AM getting R.H.  I straighten up books and papers.  Sort over  lot of old papers at barn.  They have been soaking in shed for several months ~~  About  4 P.M. I drove S.W. past hog farm returning by Tom Phipps place.  Would have gone farther but lost Jack.  I got home 5 P. he followed in about an hour.  Tue was over to Groves a while at night.  Clear day, moderate S.W. wind becoming westerly.  The roads are fine and smooth becoming dusty.  Hildreth and friend call us up about 11 PM to stay the night.  They were on their way from Loxa to the Normal which they are attending.  Go bed 9.

Went down to ties about 8 AM.  Crass does not show himself today.  Comer came about 10 AM.  Get  McKee and Savaley to help.  Comer has got  himself very much mixed up in length after and think about half of them will want sawing off.  We all quit at 4 P.M.  having got out of lengths.  Cloudy day wind W.N.W.  and fine snow flying most of forenoon.  Ther. stood little below freezing.  Went up to barber shop in evening.  We only piled about 120 ties.  Go bed  9.30 P.M.

cloudy. S.1.  Light fog.  Preston came in morn to talk over the situation.  He wants to quit our place and  rent from Hardin.  We decide to let him do as he desires but will stay if we say.  He decided to talk it over with Hardin and Harman and  might still decide to stay.  Mostly cloudy day  mist at times till near night.  Ther.  standing above 60 until 8 P.M. when cooler.  Strong southerly wind till in night.  Rain and mist say (.02)  I hitched up toward night and drove up town.  Tue attends Bizarre of Aide Society much of the day and went over to Grove's at night.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear. wind, N.W.  See Dr. Hall.  wood $1.00  Defenbaugh pays $1.55  Send 98 for old lumber out to coal shaft.  Ship Gin keg to E. Bryant at Bushton.  Taggart called at night and paid in full on wood 3.oo.  Tue not feeling well worse at night.  Maggie went to school but Phebe says she does not want to go  any more.  Mrs. Perrill over .  Kate called at night.  Comer was in town in morning.  Pay Milt Drake 13.00 on Comer order to use.  Crass banked up  south side of house under porch.  Settle up to date.  He owes me 75 cents and will help pile ties.  Gobed 10 P.M.

27.  Wednesday.  6 A.M.  Ther.  26.  36.  30. = 30 2/3

Clear.  W. 2.  Rhoda came to wash, irons a while and stays to dinner.  Tue gets cards from Phebe and Helen.  Helen is in  S.W. visiting.  The furnace leaks again but stops.  We are good deal worried about it.  Cottingham came P.M. taking away misfit grate, says right one has come and he will put it in soon.  Thinks like of leak in furnace.  Nickles bill for board mare is 18.00.  I did not hitch up today.  Clear and cool brisk N.Westerly  wind.  Tue got her vacuum carpet cleaner, and uses it much of P.M.  We did not hear from Muggs today and feel quite anxious about her.  I order third sack  wood plaster sent to Loxa for West's house.  Tue went to Grove's 8 P.M.  Self gobed 9 P.M.

Partly cloudy N. 1.  T & Muggs continue to iron.  I patch around painting W.C.  get lower half over two coats.  Tue attends R.C. at W.E. Millars P.M ~  Muggs went for nuts with friends P.M.  I drove  late P.M. as far as Sam  Walters and return 5.30. Tue was over at Grove's at night till 10.  Talk with Bill Campbell at night.  The roads are good getting dusty.   Find the mare has loss a shoe.  Grace Sefton called A.M. gave her some grated meal for her father who is no better.  Bill Scott didn't call although expected him.  Have promised to report as to trade on Perkins room tomorrow.  Mrs. Curd's brother at Shelbyville dropped dead two or three days ago.  Mare to Nickles.  Gobed 9.30

Cloudy.  SE.2.  Mort made and set window frame today~  The plumbers did not do anything.  I hitch up early and drive S. to Woodson road returning by Wrightsville getting home noon.  Roads generally good - becoming dusty.  The late frost 30 and 1st have touched corn in places.  Mort worked all day.  Cottingham didn't appear.  Bill Scott called to see about Perkins lot.  Burbank wants it.  Ferd writes will he married this month to Florence Purtill.  I drove up for grub toward night.  Breald and B.S.  Tue over to  Groves at night - a party of friends.  Mostly clear day light to fresh southerly winds.  Tue put in P.M. varnishing floor of hall upstairs.  Buy whip at Frommels.  Go bed 8.30.

Clear,  N.1.  Light white frost.  Mort began tearing out S.W. porch 8.30 A  He worked AM at tearing out after dinner I order lot of stuff from B.P. A&Co for WC. but it didn't come till toward night.  Mort quit 4.30 P.M.  Tue went calling with Helen P.M. and over at  Groves at night.  Self not satisfied with way repairs are going to work out and think will have to change program a little.  Tue sells two bushels pears to I.B.M.  I kept mare at home turning in pasture as usual.  Self feeling worse than usual all round.  Clear day with light S.W. wind.  Gobed 8 weather over

The Weather etc. for Sept. 1912.  Mean daily temperature 67.9  Max. 94 on 3d.  .18 on 14th  1.68 on 17th .08 on 21st, .72 on 22d and only trace on the other days.  Clouds 27%.  Direction and duration of winds during the month have been North 3 2/3.  NE 1 1/3, East, 1.  Southeast 4. South 9 2/3  Southwest 5 2/3, West 2. and NW 2 1/3 days  The roads have been good except some muddy about  18th  all steams are running more than usual at this season.  One light frost on 30th  Weeds and all vegetation have made a great growth.  New clover is best for years  There has been little complaint of a poor catch  I sowed about 62 acres with oats.  There is not an acre of the whole missing corn stands up straight and even late pieces are ripening.  The frost on 30 touched the corn but little else.  Trees mostly retain their green leaves.  There are no fungi in woods non have them been many the season. Have had a few campestries from barn.  The fruit crop is light but of fair quality.  Have noted none pecked as yet.

Clear, N.E. 2.  Emmett hitched up.  Grubbed out Gov. wood cherry S.E. of house: fixes fence and water tub- other odd jobs - and cuts weeds again on Perkins lot.  Tue finishes ironing A.M.  Today about  the hottest day we have had.  Self barely able to get around on afc rheumatism and heat.  Emmett works til 3 P.M. and pay him ch in full 2.55.  Mostly clear A.M. clouds up with heavy showers beginning soon after 3 P.M. (.85) to 5 P.M. mercury fell to 68 about 4 P.M. but rose later. I drove up to P.O. cash Kate's M.O.  Drove  to Crins corner to water mare.  Little rain after 4 P.M.  Rainbow about sunset.  Cloudy at .  Put mare in pasture where has been most of weak gobed 8.30 P.M.


4  Wednesday,  6 AM.  ther.  70.  92.  78.  = 80.
Clear S.E. 2.  Tue feeling badly and  did not get up til 7 A.M.  Ph.  J.E.Mc for jug Monarch.  Which got 10.30.  I hitched up mare.  Shave self A.M.  Tue lay down much A.M.  She gets letter form Muggs.  Grant people back of us  moving out A.M.  Chicken gets caught in trap A.M. which we cook.  Pay water rates for 6 mo. to Jan. 1, 1913 $6.00.  Pay Aug. Electric bill, 2.29.    Lizzie Shoot calls  P.M.  I write a scattering letter to Muggs.  Drove an hour or two late P.M. S.W. and then E toward Endsley's where came near wreck  turning.  Clear day and one of hottest.  Tue over to Groves till 9 Gobed 9.

Clear, SW. 2.  Harman phones that will be in after poles today.  Tue and I decide before breakfast that we would go to Loxa today, but give it up later.  She gets Alford to work a while.  Went and got fork at Fritz's and then over to Parker's.  Meanwhile Harmon came for poles.  I didn't see him.  No word from McNeels today, but I observe they have vacated their old shop.  I drove over to Parkers again PM.  He and (?) will go out to place tomorrow or soon.  Take mare to Nickles at night.  Phebe went down to Ora's.  Tue over at Grove's.  Mostly clear day, moderate variable winds settling northerly.  Go bed 9.30.

Clear.   The girls go to take drawing lessons .  Drive with mare till nearly noon.  Went after the girls. Mrs. Chanceller didn't come to iron as agreed and Tue  undertakes to do it herself.    Ike Miles fears Uncle John's mare will not recover.  Al Crass cleans out cistern PM.  Young says he will pay me some money on rent next week.  Some clouds PM. and looked a little like rain, wind,  variable.  Some lightning at night.  One of the oppressive days we have had.  Tue and Phebe slept down stairs til midnight.  Go bed 10 PM
