10.  Thursday, 5.30  AM  Ther.  37.  48.  47.
Cloudy Wind N.  Caught another large rat which is the third lately.  Spotted cat taken away last week came back a day or two ago.  J.M. Eastin has sold his store room up town to Jay Johnston and will pay note.  I have on him.  Pay up Mike Miller for gasoline stove &c.  Air raw and chilly not so bad  toward night.  Stay at apple store all day but don't do very much.  Good many talking of buying .  Buy buckwheat at Wrights at night.  Mostly cloudy day .  Clear at night.  Go bed.  8.30 - Mrs. Wentz gets bush  Applies on GrS.

11. Friday, 5.30 AM  Ther.  34.  51.  37.
Clear.  The smoke so thick for a few days has about gone.  Wind N.E.  Alarm of fire Mrs. Atwells  This is the day for  the Anarchist hanging in Chicago.*  Tue was up town toward night and paid up  Mullen sisters $12.90.  Kate Myers was over at night.  Phebe cried with toothache good deal early in night.  Gobed 10.45 P.M.

12.  Saturday.  6.15 AM  Ther.  27.  51.  45.
Clear, wind N.E.  Pleasant day chilly.  Uncle John was in town.  Learn that over tenant Mr. Young is talking of moving to Terre Haute.  If  he does will probably owe Tue about $18.00.  Comer and Gary were up P.M.  Buy big piece of Ham at Masons which make  (?) sausage at night Phebe still has bad toothache.  Gobed 10 P.M.

August 22, 1887 in Charleston, IL

22  Monday, 6 AM.  The.  6 AM.  Ther.  72.  86.  72.
Clouds and sprinkle rain.  Help Tue get breakfast.  Sign note with Comer 60 day $100.00.  Finish up ladder Young began Saturday.  Pay John Rice 1.75 M. Cornwell 25c, Adam's (?) Shop 25c.  Barber 15 all in full.  Buy butter, Potatoes, apples at Mitchells.  Jerry McCarty says will take  only 3 1/2 cord wood.  Elisha Eastin has sold out to Jim MCarty.  Pay Dave Morris for setting post.  Kate Davis over awhile at night.  Tue went over to Eastin's toward night.  Mrs. E still sick.  Mostly cloudy afternoon, signs of rain ,  light sprinkle, west wind.  Gobed 9.30

August 19 - 21 1887

19.  Friday   6.30  AM.  Ther.  65.  85.  65.
Clear northerly wind..  Tue decided to do ironing herself again.  May Johnson went home today.  Saw Comer up town.  Think will get mill to running next week.  Hat and friend call in afternoon.  get note from Laggart saying he wants a load of of wood at once.  Baby cried very much today.  Kate Davis over while P.M.  Pleasant day and clear.  Gobed 10 PM.


20.  Saturday  6 AM.  Ther.67.  91.  76.
Clear.  Pick up and put away newspapers.  Drove out to meet W. Decker who took a load wood to Laggart.  Uncle John down to dinner.   Rest up stuff for J.O.W. but forgot it.  He left  without it.  Young came about 1.30 made a botch job of it.  Ladder.  Nickolson paid 12.00 for my old buggy.  Tue finished ironing.  Fan was here part of P.M.  Went home just before night.  Dark cloud from NW before sunset but didn't rain.  Mrs. Davis was over a while at night.  Comer was up town but I didn't see much of him.  gobed 10 P.M.


21.   Sunday,  7 A.M.   Ther.  72.  88.  71.
Partly cloudy.  NW wind.  Went up town in morning.  See Geo.   Webens who gave me some cigars.  Tue not very well.  Complain of toothache and headache.  Warm morning cloudy most of P.M. and somewhat cooler.  Took drive with Tue (leaving baby with W.S.G.) down  by hog farm and out by fair ground, getting back before dark.    Girls spent afternoon at Davis'.  Sprinkle  rain at night.  Go bed  9 P.M.
