Mostly clear wind N.W. 3.  I went up town before breakfast getting some cucumbers.  The wind last night broke limbs off trees including my pet peach near old house.  Ferd is still watch at Opera H and eats breakfast with us.  Neither Steve nor Riley Decker have deed I wanted  Will Decker in town and thinks he will get loan leaving out the 4 A. piece.  I put on new pants got recently of Winter.  They are too long.  Abbot called early A.M. and I pay him for yesterdays work.  Talk with young Gilbert P.M.  He wants to buy my timothy meadow.  Says the corn not down much out there.  Not so many as usual in town Sat.  I passed Kate's and saw her sister Minnie from  Mo.  Mostly clear day with N.W. wind  Gobed 10 P.M.

Clear wind S. and W. P.M. NW at night and growing cooler  Many calls for wood today but have sold all I can spare.  Order 8  Bush Blue 8'Orchard and 4 Red top through W.E. Hill.  Abbott  says  will work for me tomorrow.  Milt Drake up P.M. purports to go into my south house as soon as  Rile Decker gets out.  Clear warm day  Snow goes off   Gobed 11 PM~

Cloudy.  Abbott began early working all day mostly sawing wood  Reynolds hauls last load up for me.  Milt did not show up early,  got ready to start about 2.30 P.M.  Went by  walkers ford.  river pretty well up I cross in boat  Milt on mare.  Got to Milt's about 7.30 and gobed  10.30 PM   Co Surveyor will come next week.

At ranch.  clear frosty morning stock looks badly.  Simons and self walk round most of most of AM.  Decide to build barn yard fence first  Milt helping Riley Decker in order to get his house done  Milt purposes to move as soon as Riley does..  Start home at nearly 4 P.M. by Handly ford.   home at 7:30  P.M.  Rain at 9 P.M. and most of night thereafter.  Gobed 11 P.M.

Cloudy rain nearly all last night  cloudy damp day, with mist or fog all night.  The roads are as bad as I ever saw them.  Pay up  Abbott for work this wk settle with Briggs Insurance barn and store trade dull.  Very few people in town.  Have talk with Comer about gering out my timber this spring  Gobed 11 PM.

Clear.  Light white frost.  some signs of better weather.  Uncle John was down to dinner.  Henry Hildreth who has been gone since last March ate supper with us.  He has been in Dakota and Virginia since.  Father got some butter at  J.B. Hill which  couldn't use.  I got some butter at  McCaud at night.  Pay Warren Decker in full to date   Trade better than late Saturdays Fine Day, wind S Gobed 11 PM  Girls want to stay all night with Maunie Lang.

Cloudy, wind S.E. gets in south and remains there fine mist most of  day and night  Dark and muddy.  Trade as good as could expect, better than last Saturday  Learn that Uncle John is sick and decide to go out there in morning if weather permits.  Drake did not come and John Simon's says he will be ready to move down there at anytime.  11P.M.

(?) 6.65  Clear day South west wind  gobed 9 PM.

Mostly clear with southerly wind.  Clara ironing  I went to Loxa A,M. getting there just in time for dinner  got home 1 P.M.  Tue went to R.C. at Marshall's  Clara went to dentist.  Lost large hazel cane which I thought much of must have got out of buggy along the road.  Mostly clear day Roads sloppy and quite muddy expect gravel.  Jo grubbing  gobed 10 PM.

Mostly clear, light white frost.  Boys finish setting blocks get log wagon of Comer and Milt tries to haul a few logs but got along very slow.  Sent  for Warren but he could not come today  Rile and Henry cut logs for 20 ft posts, looking like rain.  I start home at 5 PM. getting there at 7 PM.  Alex Axtin ran into my buggy with lumber wagon on way home.  Mare acted badly.  Trade has been pretty fair this week considering weather.  10.30 PM.

Partly clear, southerly wind.  Bill came before 7 AM. and began at wood in barn working at that and kindling all day.  They are pay 30 c for corn in Charleston today.  Drive down and see Mrs. Rogers about working for Tue one day this week.  She couldn't come.  Sam Weyeth called AM to see about his lumber.  Simons did not come up today, but Brown called PM while I was away.  I drove up to Decker Spring and beyond finding some Armellana meleus and Pleunotus astreatus.  Colby brought me mess of latter about noon.  Mrs. Owens ironed and is going away tomorrow.  Clear day southerrly wind Gobed 8 PM  Ferd here sup.

Foggy.  Was about sick all night.  Write letter to Minnie Pyles Hindsboro asking her to come down and work for us. Bill came early.  Went with him to Mintons for a plank..  Stop at Martha Veach's for Pattern.  Go see Mrs. Rogers, she cant help Tue before Monday P.M.  Take Tue  to Fluhartys and to Schatzburger   Charley Popham kicking because lumber for cirbs has not come  Learn  from Jim Decker that Simons & Warmen are shucking corn  Send word for them to hurry up with the lumber.  Sell Gaiser per Barr 638 ft 12 & 14 ft fencing.  Tue gone much of P.M.  Girls call to hire at night.  Kate over.  Clear day westerly wind gobed 9.30 P.M.  ( short hand)

Clear very heavy frost  the first heavy one  Most trees are green yet and Hickory nuts have not fallen much as yet.  Caught more cold last night.  Mostly in my head.  Put on woolen underclothes this morning.  Begin getting ready for stove at store.  Streamer drummer in town, buys small bill from him.  Mrs. Rogers  washes, Milt and Warren did not come up - supposed to be working on road.  Go  bed 10.30 ~~

Quite a heavy shower in night.  turning cooler.  Looked for  Phebe some in  night.  Have had no word from her since I sent telegram.  Drive south of town P.M. looking for mushrooms.  didn't see any.  Charlotte Sproule here P.M.  Jack Cabby brought lot of mushrooms mostly Campestris    Lulu Dorsch here at night staying with Maggie.  They have company with oysters.  Ferd here all night.  Went to bed at 8.30 PM, but got up at midnight to to train for Phebe  Walk down.  She didn't come however.  Gobed 1.15 AM.

Clear.  Easterly wind.  I got up and ate breakfast before rest of them got up.    Miss John Simons on road.  I  didnt start till 7 PM.  and got home at 7.  Didn't eat diner except bunch candy &c.  Tue gets long letter from Phebe.  She has decided to stay there if she can take music.  Mort and Kate over at night till 10 PM.  Mrs. Owens washed  Phebe wrote to each of us but seems to be having good time.  (shorthand)  Get sample Kaffee corn.  Mort and Kate go home at 10 P.M. and gobed 11 PM.

Mostly clear fresh fresh breeze S. Uncle John down to dinner.  Milt Drake up with team, no load.  Pay  John Kink $25.00 which is several dollars more than I owe him.  Trade medium.  Pay Nick wages to date.   Rain a little toward night and gets cooler.  Mostly cloudy P.M.  Gobed midnight.

Clear.  Tue and self start for ranch 10 AM.  left girls and baby home with father.  Ate our dinner N. of house in N. hollow.  After some bark and roots start home about 5 PM.   Began to rain before we got to Hanely's and rained till nearly home.  Thunder good part of P.M.  Having rain at night.  We got pretty damp before getting home.  Gobed 9:30 PM.

Cloudy, wind NW, signs of rain but none fell here. Cooler at night wind getting N.  Hitch up hover PM to deliver C(?) beer.  H.G. paid Miss K.  36.25 on his share of bonus drawing it out of firm money.  Set a dozen tomato plants at night.  Paid up Jackson a/c 20.00 and look at carpet there.  Narrrow gauge pays off. Their men PM.  Gobed 11:30 PM

Partly Clear.  Abbott works most of P.M. Cleaning up stable.   Buy 3640  lbs hay of Eley @ 8.50.  Mrs. Rogers washed.  Quit smoking tobacco, Cloudy toward night looked like rain lightning NE  rain with thunder about 11 PM.  Trade fair.  Paid Abbott 25 in full.  Gobed.  11 PM

fair   But cloudy most of day , with N. wind snow flying at times has been coldest day this winter coldest average since last Fb 27.  Bob Brown called about  noon to say he had sowed about 15 acres of timothy.  Pay him 3.00 on a/c.  He still owes me me a rent.  Wood pile grows less pretty fast this weather.  Good deal less than half a cord on hand.  Mrs. Rogers and daughter brought clothes at night.  Phebe and  self went up after some steak and (?).  Not so cold as last night.  Mary Davis over toward night.  Got to bed 10 1/2 P.M.

Cloudy , gift of snow in the night.  Phebe went to S.S.  Maggie coughed good deal in the night having caught more cold yesterday.  Phebe went to S.S. and brought Mamie Lang home with her, she stayed till night.  Maggie had accident with syrup cup.  Cloudy day with variable wind mostly S.E. light snow at times probably less than half an inch in all.  Gobed 9 P.M.

25.  Monday 6.15 AM  ther.  9.  33.  26.  Part cloudy hazy.  Clouded up and snow flurry from S.E.Began snowing about 4 P.M. and continued most of the night with sleet winding up in the morning with a little rain which froze as it fell.  Warren Decker brought me a half a cord of wood and took down clover seed got of Wright 144 lbs at 6.00 per bush.  He also took seeder.  Learn that Tom Stoddert is worse and has had to give up the supervisor-ship.  Baby has caught cold.  Phebe went to school  Maggie about the same.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Mostly cloudy day and snow melting.  Just I started for timber at 2.30 P.M. turned back at Walker ford but went ahead after meeting Handley's folks.  River up a little and full of ice which is not moving yet.  Go to bed at 7.30  Roads bad for riding  10 P.M.

Partly cloudy.  Still thawing.  Rode to Warren Decker's to get clover seed, which Warren brought over.  Got Bob started and hope he will continue till finished  Start home at 11 AM.  Roads not quite as bad as yesterday.  Very muddy toward town.  Got home abt 1 P.M.  Sunshine at times, snow leaving, fast wind N.E.  Warren Decker hauled load of wood which he but in road in front of house.  Order case Bethesda for Stoddert.  He is sick  abed  and has been for some time.  Gobed 9 PM.

Partly cloudy - hazy.  Maggie's cold is much better and she does not cough much in the night.  Zeke Easton bought load of wood which sell him for .75 c  Bought Potatoes and rabbit at Wrights on Cr.  Jack Fagan paid me $1.00 old a/c.  Tue went up to Davis' in evening, Maggie making pie meanwhile.  Began to rain before dark and slow rain in night.  Wind S.E.  Very sloppy and disagreeable, roads are not yet broken through.  saw up some wood  Go bed 8.30 PM  Crank woman calls.

Part cloudy, S.2.  J.H. Parker called an hour or so He has been  visiting at the water works.  Says they have the filtering  plant in full operation.  Pay L.D. Norton Lafayett collector 1912 taxes for that township.  We called at house.  Tue went to the G.R. Chambers funeral P.M.  I hitch up after dinner but did not use the mare.  Light rain rain about  3 P.M.  and much heavier later.  Tay helps unhitch.  Some quite heavy thunder about 4 P.M.  Mostly cloudy day stiff SE winds  Part  clear at night.  No rain after dark.  Tue now expects her roomers to get out  Saturday.  Ray does not do much and will let him go soon.  Finish Treasure Island.  Gobed 9.

Cloudy.  Wind N.E. fresh.  Half inch snow on ground cleaned off and was pleasant day.  Mrs. Rogers did not come to wash.  Will come tomorrow went up town and  got 43/4 lb. lard sent 2 gal. jar up to fill P.M. at Masons.  Emma Knock and and Fatty's wife were over in afternoon.  Have not felt well to day.  Have not yet sent order for fruit trees.  Gobed 9.30

Clearing off from W.  west wind strong.  H.G. called in morning after some liq.  Sent 8.47 to Joseph Harris Seed Co. for seeds and fertilizer.  Comer up town give him statement of a/c which he disputes saying it is about 50 dollars too much, nearly gets mad about it.  Says will be up Wednesday or Thursday and straighten it up if we can.  Have not settled since Sept. 25.  See Tom Stoddert about the Nicholson place.  He says it could be fixed up this count we look up the record and find their mistakes.  Clear day with west wind.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Cloudy and fair.  Light W. wind.  Mrs. Rogers comes to wash about 8 AM.  Has not washed for us for two weeks.  Walk down to RR with Seph to look at switch ties.  There is one set there and think will have them piled tomorrow.  Walk around place P.M. looking at fences &c.  The ground is thawed down about 6 inches and is very muddy.  Hat called toward night.  A man named Watkins that was shot in a quarrell(sic) the other night died last night.  Mrs. S.E. Ray was buried today.  Buy blank diary to follow this one.  Not feeling very well.  Gobed  p PM.

Clear and fine calm white frost.  Get three men and team and pile set of switch ties at R.R. getting done before 11 AM.  Man named Myers calls  wants to rent Nicholson place.  Think will have to rent it Tom Stoddert says can't clean up the deed  at this next court.    Farmer's Institute meeting in town  good many farmers in.  Mrs. Rogers irons in afternoon.  Clear day with little wind still chilly.  C.G. not yet feeling very well  Gobed 9.15~~

Tore big hole in knee of pants don't know how.  Doc. Dowling  paid me 5.00 on a/c.  Wade Hall failed to bring lumber as promised.  went to McGiberry concert at night with Tue and children.  Sent 1.00 to (?) for 1 year subscription.  Gobed 11 P.M.

Mostly cloudy wind SW.  Mrs. Rogers sends word that she can't wash today.  Tue engages her for Friday.  Wind changed to N. before noon and grows colder.  Rain and afterword sleet.  Wade Hall brings up some lumber which does not suit me very well.  Undertake to turn on water at store but find pipe bursted in another place.  Stop at Fatty's awhile toward night.  Caylon has been delivering some wood to C. Mason today.  Ed Easton wants a cord tomorrow.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Cloudy, Wind S.W.  Mrs. Rogers comes but doesn't wash.  She decided to wait until Wednesday.  Maggie went to school.  Sold Mrs. Warren old lumber $2.95.  Troy R. cleans up after busted bottles up at store.  Comer in town.  Called to tell me the R.R. had recd. all the switch ties 720 and 17 cross ties.  Went down to look at them.  Throwing pretty fast all day.  Same came out before more wind westerly.  N.W. toward night. E. Easton gives me order from Cerrun 1.55 which I credit on his a/c forward, says he is going to making ties tomorrow.  Everybody has bad cold.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Cayler 1/4 Cd wood on cr.  He has paid for 1/2 got sometime ago in delivering.  Riley Eastin brought in 24 posts which pay him for.  Clears off afternoon.   Maggie and Phebe went to school.  Uncle John down to dinner, took a dress out to Aunt Deal.    Stop at F. Knock's shop a while in P.M.  Settle up orders at Dick Bails.  Pleasant day clear day P.M. wind W or NW.  Thawing out pretty fast indications are that this weather will continue.  Clear night with frozen fog or mist.  Phebe cries with earache.  Baby  restless and stopped up with cold.  Go bed 10.30 PM.

S.3.  This continued all day with showers quits heavy rains at night in all one inch fell.  We put in much time today in patching up this record from 4th inst to date and made a poor job of it.  I was taken sick one night Jan. 4 with the grip.*  Have not been out since.  The weather has been bad most of time.  Phebe was up town toward night.  Tue tries to get ticket for show but fails.  Ray did chores in the rain.  Go bed. 10.

Clear.  I built fires all round this morning, Father lying in bed till nearly 7 A.M.  Mrs. Rogers came to  wash.  Mr. Abbott finished sawing wood.  Kate Purill called AM.  Maggie was promoted today to the third room.  Kate Davis.  Phebe remain at home and is feeling pretty well, she went up town with me P.M.  Hat down in afternoon.  Learn that  Al Prevo has come from Ala.  The (?) R.R. took four sets of my switch ties today .  to be paid for on next estimate.  Go bed.  10  PM.  Not feeling very well.  Compared a/c with Skidmore today and owe them $6.55.

Cloudy.  Wind came up in night from S.E. icing in force.  None of us rested well last night.  Began snowing at 10 AM. turning to hail by noon and finally  to rain got warmer all day.  Settle with W.G. Wright owed him balance of 13.08.  Tue sick all day.  Got dinner at 4oc.  There was probably 2 1/2 in of snow fell.  Self not feeling very well today.  gobed 9.30 P.M.

Clear with fresh NW wind.  Phebe  does not feel much better and eats no breakfast.  Have decided (?)(?) her attend school any more this winter.  Tue sent word to Mrs. Rogers again yesterday not to wash today.  Tue went over to Kate Myers about 11 AM to spend the day.  Phebe felt better toward night.  Gave her several doses tonic Cinchonida Dr. called it.   Father went to Creamery after buttermilk but didn't get any.  Cayton hands me  1/2 cord wood from yard and Abbot saws on it.  Go bed 9.30

Winter pays me for lumber $10.05.  John Hamilton pays off old a/c  7.10.  Make out coal shaft bills  for Mr. Cummings for the last month 4338 ft.  Comer sends up city bill  by Theodore.  Get  sack flour  1.10 and one of meal .20 of J.M. Curi.  Warmest day so far this winter.  Mostly sunshine snow  and ice disappear.  Roads said to be good but sloppy.  Eastin's  waste water has made a sheet of ice in front of us.  Got a pigs liver at Mason, Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear, but clouds over got a letter from Bruen saying would take 10 set more switch ties after receiving trace out which would do Jerry H.   Tue ironing.  Mrs.  Wentz over P.M., also Mrs. Feagan.    Tue sends Maggie to tell Mrs. Rogers not to wash tomorrow.  Settle with  F. Knock to date, he paying me $7.35.  Mr. Sutton went away last Saturday night to stay.  Glasco boys take possession of the Plaindealer today.  Uncle John was in till 3 P.M.  Saul Snider at night  says will keep my mare down there for something more than 2.00 per mo.  Pay P.O. sent 25.  Soup at Mcs 25.  Comer was up at night.  Says will send City and Coal Shaft bills  up  Wednesday.  Gobed 8.30 P.M.

Neal & Co. $2.50.  Maggie and Phebe spend most of the afternoon at Davis'.  Tue not very well.  Saw Cummings at Alex Richters this morning says he has about all the lumber he will need to finish his present contract.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear very strong N.W. wind blowing all night.  About quarter inch snow on ground which fell before bedtime last night.  Find ther. at about 27 in room.  hang door and fire up old coal oil stove raising temp to 32.  Maude Lang here to dinner.  Have only been having two meals a day this week.  Sell Mrs. Lang  cord of wood at 3.50 to be delivered tomorrow morning.  Clear day with brisk N.W. wind.  Kate Davis over in eve.  Tue had toothache and headache bad at night.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

Learn that Lem Stark is very low and can't live long.  Pay Geo Rosebaugh in full $50.00 cash taken from deposit at 1ST.  Comer men up want city to fill out their order as they are going to shut down.  Sell L Dunbar a Bbl of apples.  There are about 7 Bbl left all usable, they don't seem to take very well.  Phebe sick at night with sore throat.  Go bed 10 P.M.  Got up and stand till after midnight.

Raining since about 4 AM.  Wind E.  Tue bakes bread first time in a week or more.  Help her make some yeast.  Girls took their dinner to school.  We did not get any.   Self got sick smoking.  Light rain all day till nearly 4 P.M. when wind changed to W. or N.W. and grew colder till  bed time.  Father killed and picked two  chickens at night.  Mrs. Rogers sent word that she  could not come and wash till Thursday.  Maggie spilled lot of water in front room at night..  Gobed 9.30 P.M.

Clear.  S.W.3.  David works AM at cutting up scraps.  Helps hitch up about.(sic)  Too cold to dig our barn hydrant.  Tue went to RC at Harryman's  P.M.  I drove out by fairgrounds toward night.  The roads are fine and quite dusty.  Mort and Kate were over at night but I retired early and didn't see them~~  Clear day with fresh southwest winds.  The authorities have declared the river water unwholesome and suggests that it must be boiled before using.  Gobed 8 PM

Wagner apples which deliver , must have been  very rotten.  Tue has been giving baby little air every day lately and she sleeps much better for it.  Gobed 9 PM
