11.  Friday  6 AM.  Part cloudy  Ther  60.  82.  66  =  69 2/3  Start for timber 7.10  Met Milt going to Diona with wagon  Have Riley and Rogers cut a few logs old (?) and R. Deck burn brush  Meet Milt on way  home with big sow.  sp. rain toward night  Got home 8 PM   Father about sick with cold  go bed 10.30 PM.

11th over -  Electric light  started up for few moments about 7.30 first time.  D.G. Milie Stable burned about 8 PM.   Al Crass got hurt with hose cart.   (I have made this entry bold, not Charles.)

Partly cloudy.  Light shower in night.  Pleasant day NW wind.  Remit Thurber 14.63  Send receipt for B&h Whiskey to free two Bbls also Rec for 2 Bbl Matingly   Uncle John in town.   Drake did not get in with wood  Warren brought load to Cooper.  Trade good best day so far except during fair  Electric light started at 6.45 P.M. for good. and continued all night  Kelly oils buggy.  go bed 11.30 PM

11.  Thursday. 5.30 AM.  ?.  52.  78.  60.  = 63 1/3

Mostly clear.  Get shave  Decide to go to Mattoon on train  Drive down there and leave horse hitched to Wrights shed N. of R.R.  Going  to Mattoon on 11.38 train which was late  Take in most or many of show P.M.  Eat supper with the Catholic Ladies  Saw Martha Parsons at night.  Met Charley Hopper after dark and he and I took in some of show.  Try to telephone to Pipher to put up my horse but contrary drug man headed me off.  Met D.B. Rose says told fellow to pay me 200 amt of bill he owes me for lumber  I got home at 11 P.M. and ate hearty sup at that time  gobed 11.11 PM  

12.  Friday.  4.30 AM  .  Ther 52.  75.  60  =  62 1/3

Partly clear.  I intended to start to Matton or Loxa early but did not get off till 8 or 9 AM,  Went to  Gaines and intended to reach Mattoon.  Mrs. and Mrs. Gaines wanted to go with children, so we go  I  taking Mrs G in Buggy and Jo walking Start with load - May and daughter, 9.30 AM. getting there 10.30.  Leave horse and buggy in stable west side which May recommended.  OK.  Take in much of fair.  Meet many I knew.  Saw Bert and was with him over show says will loan us money and take up note at 1st National Bank.    Shirley met me just as I was about to start home.  Tell him have not time to discuss matters.  They  try to plow BC stubble yest. but give  it up.  Got to Joes about 6 P.M. and home 7 PM.  Gobed 830 P.M.

25.  Tuesday, 7 AM.  Ther.  63.  88.  67.  =  75.

Thick haze and clouds, warmer dew and looks like rain toward night.  Dru(?) Ure in town very small bill of him.  Drake takes another cord of wood to Sam Ray.  Thinks he has about 4 cord there  Self not very well PM. - tobacco.  Mrs. Rogers washed   buy sickls(sic) at Guinthers cash  gobed  11 P.M.

26. Wednesday.  6.30  AM.  Ther.  70.  88.  69.  =  752/3

Some cloudy-hazy.  Milt Drake brings up cord of wood which sell to  Clegg.  Al Crass mows weeds in garden and on hillside in P.M.  Baby not very well for several days.  Tue got a letter from Laura Perrill recently Kate and Mrs. P were over at night to hear it read.  Gobed  10.30~

27.  Thursday.   6.15 AM.  Ther.  78.  90.  69.  =  79.

Hazy some cloudy.  Big Sunday school picnic at fair ground today.  Good many people in town ~ Crass works all day at weeds and garden.  Pay him up.  Milt comes up with  cord of wood which he sells to Henry Crin(?).    Self not very well been chewing tobacco.  Brought the girls a  croquet set 1.00.  Gobed 11.30 P.M.  Light shower in P.M. with thunder.

28.  Friday.  6.30 AM.  Ther.  74.  88.  78.  =  80.

Cloudy looking like rain in SW.  G. Bro. pay balance of 3.80 on 4 Bbl. BSH WH..  Pay Messick (?)  error of 5.00.  Went down to ties P.M. find them all right - 266.  Drake got in very late with load of wood which he sold to Pinatel.  Pleasant day with light shower between seven and 8 AM wind S.W.  Go bed 11 P.M.  

29.   Saturday.  7 AM.  Ther.  78.  90.  72.  =  80.

Mostly clear, SE. wind.  Warm day good many in town considering it is in midst of harvest.  Drake brings up  load of wood sells  half to  Carrell balance to Ray.  Pay int. on demand note at Bank 24.00.  Tue make light plaid dresses for girls.  Trade fair.  Wind N. toward night.  Uncle John in town.  Gobed 10.30 PM.

30.  Sunday 7.15 AM  Thr.  78.  98.  78.  =  84 2/3

Clear. S. wind.  Start for timber alone a 8.30.  Tue intended to go with me but too hot.  Milt's folks gone away.  I rode round till 2 P.M.  Clem Marglin (?) P.M.  I start home about 6.  The river  is going down fast but the fordes are not safe.  Bridge in road south of town has been torn out and replaced by embankment.  Crossed it for first time today.  Hottest day so far this year.  Much of wheat down my way is cut and is generally pretty light.  Gobed 10 PM.~  Negro boy Gray was drown at the river today.

3. Tuesday.  6 AM.  Ther.  36. 57.   48.
Clear day.  Howard Robinson died last night.  I was on foot all day  doing what I could, but was beaten 90 votes.   The whole Dem ticket elected excepting T. Stoddert for supervisor 53 maj.  Uncle John was in all day  and stayed all night.  Rutherfords were up and I paid them $4.50 in orders.  The result of the election was a surprise to most people.  Stay up till they counted out.  Went to bed 1 A.M.

4.  Wednesday.  6 AM.  Ther.  42.  70.  63.
Clear.  Al Crass helps pile walnut lumber in morning an hour or two.  Howard Robinson was buried today.  Uncle John says I better fence a part of my land and he will send a lot of cows down there in May.  Would have gone to timber today if had not been so tired.  Baby sick all day and in night.  Pleasant day.  (The print runs off the page).

Some cloudy, strong S. wind, blowing all day.  Thunder shower from W. about 4.30 PM. raining about half an hour.  Thought of going to the timber, but looked too much like rain, Rutherfords were up and I let them have the lot of old corn I had left.  Bruner called P.M. and paid  me for a set of switch ties which they took up this week.    Says I can put out all the ties I want to before June 1. Advises me to Meyers works  8 hours spreads manure, plants potatoes in bottom.  1st row east plant deep with S. phos.   2d. row shallow with phos.  3rd row shallow without phos.  4th row peas N. end phos.  Put in city bill at night 37.53.  Gobed 9 PM.  Paid tax on nine bbls. b&h.  Whiskey $350.70.

6.  Friday.  6 AM.  Ther.  36.  58.  47.
Clear day with northerly wind.  Meyers works all day.  Tear down old hog pen and do good deal of cleaning up.  John Spurgeon brings up 387 ft  2 in. Planks.  Got poll list of F. Blankbenbakee.  Remit Sucion Sturm 1.45 being amt insurance bal on 7 P  whiskey B &h.  Tue not feeling well.  Have had very bad cold in head self for day or two.  Gobed 10 PM.

Clear, SW. 2.  Harman phones that will be in after poles today.  Tue and I decide before breakfast that we would go to Loxa today, but give it up later.  She gets Alford to work a while.  Went and got fork at Fritz's and then over to Parker's.  Meanwhile Harmon came for poles.  I didn't see him.  No word from McNeels today, but I observe they have vacated their old shop.  I drove over to Parkers again PM.  He and (?) will go out to place tomorrow or soon.  Take mare to Nickles at night.  Phebe went down to Ora's.  Tue over at Grove's.  Mostly clear day, moderate variable winds settling northerly.  Go bed 9.30.

Clear.   The girls go to take drawing lessons .  Drive with mare till nearly noon.  Went after the girls. Mrs. Chanceller didn't come to iron as agreed and Tue  undertakes to do it herself.    Ike Miles fears Uncle John's mare will not recover.  Al Crass cleans out cistern PM.  Young says he will pay me some money on rent next week.  Some clouds PM. and looked a little like rain, wind,  variable.  Some lightning at night.  One of the oppressive days we have had.  Tue and Phebe slept down stairs til midnight.  Go bed 10 PM

Clear. N.E.2.  Find another boxing loose R.F. wheel.  Was down and look at Andrew's cedar posts A.M.  The Chicago Convention have not yet named their candidate.  Roosevelt gives up  however.  Not many in town for Sat.  Busy times and late season.  Saw several working in corn today.  Drove to Dicewood.  Meet one Cally bia radicata  Think will try  for  more tomorrow.  Mostly clear with moderate N.E. wind  Go bed 10.

Clear.  Start for timber at 7 A.M. in old buggy with Al Crass working at road as we went got there before noon.  Afternoon tried to get down Maple Hollow but forced to turn back.  Mare stepped through a bridge on return but no damage done.  Got home at 7 P.M.  Mrs. Davis over to supper.  Brisk NW wind all day sprinkle rain down there about noon.  Mrs. Lainel ironed.  Sent to St. Louis 1.75 for hammock.  Go bed 10.30 PM~
