Clear  Mostly clear day and warmer.  Work all day clearing live for road and got nearly through.  Went over on south side of big hollow after dryncher(?).  Bob begins hauling lumber out of bottom P.M.  I started home at 5 P.M. coming home by Edmans and M. Anderson.  Phebe better today and think will get along.  9 P.M.

Clear or nearly so.  Start for woods at 6.30 A.M.  Finish clearing road before noon took down beef and flour for Jno Jr. and Riley then worked only till noon.  Clouds over about noon and rain about  2 p.m.  Cut an old tree out wood aged tried to make a few posts with poor success.  Left boys piling up their wood about 5 P.M.  There was a Demo. meeting in town came home by Walkers.  9 P.M.  Tue got Muggs pictures taken.

Partly clear, mostly cloudy day. Light rain about dark for hour or so.  Tue and self went out to Uncle Johns.  Drove up N. of town a couple of miles first.  Brought home lot of apples getting home in the rain.  We left the baby with M & P.  Budded most of my young peach trees today from seedling trees of our own four kinds.  Gobed 9.30

Cloudy looks like rain.  Got to woods at 9 AM.  7 men at work today.  Two new men E. Johnson and Os Decker clearing round house and near spring.  Brown hauling out lumber.  Have spent on cleaning up to  this morning $37.50 for  50 days work.  Very satisfied with most of the work done.  Got home 6 P.M. Sprinkles rain toward night.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Most clear.  NW.2. W.C. again froze up.  We have to thaw out with lantern.  Rhoda came to wash 7.30.  Tue went up to Parker sale at store AM.  Rhoda does other work and stays the dinner.  This the coldest day this winter.  Light westerly wind all day.  Mostly cloudy  PM with snow flurries.  The weather forecasts predict same for several days.  I did not get out much.  The furnace "off" again early and had to work an hour before could build fire.  Ordered cobs Whalens for morn.  Self feel poorly.  Gobed 9.30.

Mostly Clear W.1.  Again trouble with W.C. freezing.  I did not let loose till noon.  Think I can fix it good tonight.  Attic tank ran dry last night.  We borrow lamp lanterns in coal room  might benifit W.C.  Could not see difference: it froze all same.  Load cobs from Whalens came 1.00 cr. per load P.M.  Tue works of PM on R.C.  lesson.  Think have WC fixed so  will stand cold night - will let it run all night.  Part cloudy  day: light SW wind.  Mrs. Fulton called to see  Tue P.M.  Tue got armful of books from library.  One of cold days.  Go bed 9.

Cloudy wind NW.  Baby slept well and think she is  all right.  Don't think she has the whooping cough.  It is very prevalent in town and several children have died from it quite recently.  W.L. Montecue died suddenly at Dr. Steele's office yesterday morning.  Maggie and Phebe got to S.S. in AM. and up to Davis after dinner.  Open Bbl of Baldwin apples, have just finished one of gradings.   Tue went over to Perrills a while toward night.  Called at Mrs. Shaw's she is not much better.  Have been smoking cigar since July 11 and have decided to quit for a while toward night.  Cloudy AM  clears off  and  clear night.  Go bed.  9.30 P.M.

Clear with S. wind.    Girls both go to school.  Mrs. is reported better today.  Get  John Savely to saw up  half cord wood.  Comer up town.  Order him to saw  me 2000 ft.  2 in. plank and 2000 ft. 2.3 and 4 by 5 such as city uses @ .70 on the yard in wood.   Pay him check $100.00  on balance due him.  A. Taylor working  for Winter was  found dead  in his bed this morning.  Jim Perrill  got some more sheeting and ordered 400 ft. 2 in elm plank 14 ft.  Baby had  a severe time with her bowels after supper.  Mostly  clear day, wind southerly.  Go bed 10.30 PM.

S.W.3  Have not heard from Geographic since writing them with remittance of 2.00 Dec. 18.  Mail checks P.M.  to Fuller Bros 20.75 Coal  Tucker Bros 3.50 concrete basement.  Gray & Gray shoe bill to date.  Russell and Erwin New Brittain (stamps) for two front door keys.  Tue mailed and stamped  these letters.  I did not go up town.  Tue attends RC at Iknyans P.M.   Ray Bennett levels up stables.  Tue attends church at night with Mrs. Webster.  Fern N and Ora here evening.  I lie on lounge which we moved to dining room last week.  Look over many  old papers &c AM.  Cloudy day with light rain at times (.10) R. strong southerly winds.  The rains yesterday raised branch some.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Yakima Apples from M & C, from Buddy.  I had a hard tussel with furnace late P.M.  Ray helping.  This coal is very dirty, full of stone.  Bright clear day NW wind I did not get out.  Mort and Kate over at night till nearly 10 oc.

I wrote two firms for literature on Motor Plows.  Fern and Ora call late P.M. making candy with Phebe.  I had thought of taking drive today but did not feel like hitching up.  The roads are reported very muddy except gravel.  The branch still runs  good stream.  River water muddy.  Cloudy day with strong southerly Part clear at night.  Tue attends church at night.  warm day for winter  Gobed  10 P.M.

Cloudy but soon clears off.  Father reports waterworks at store burst from frost.   Get F. Knocks  wrench and shut it off after  breakfast.  Phebe appears to be all right this morning.  Figure on apple account and post up Comer.  Roads are frozen up smooth and solid very slippery in places.  Hen bought us a couple of chickens yesterday and we had one of them for dinner.  Lem Stark funeral was at 2 P.M. today  did not attend.  Kate Davis was over a while at night.  Baby cried till after midnight.  Gobed  11.30 P.M.

Cloudy, wind south.  Misty all day after 9 A.M.  Wind got in S.W. before night.  Walked down to ties in morning and went to depot.    Bob Brown  and Marion Johnson brought orders from Comer.  Sold Dougherty all apples.  Mrs. Rogers washed.  Pay up J.W. Neal & Co. $2.50.  Maggie and Phebe spend most of the afternoon at Davis'.  Tue not very well.  Saw Cummings at Alex Richters this morning says he has about all the lumber he will need to finish his present contract.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear very strong N.W. wind blowing all night.  About quarter inch snow on ground which fell before bedtime last night.  Find ther. at about 27 in room.  hang door and fire up old coal oil stove raising temp to 32.  Maude Lang here to dinner.  Have only been having two meals a day this week.  Sell Mrs. Lang  cord of wood at 3.50 to be delivered tomorrow morning.  Clear day with brisk N.W. wind.  Kate Davis over in eve.  Tue had toothache and headache bad at night.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

Clear.  Mostly clear day with N.W. wind.  Deliver Ed Eastin two cords wood.  Will pay Saturday. Learn that Lem Stark is very low and can't live long.  Pay Geo Rosebaugh in full $50.00 cash taken from deposit at 1ST.  Comer men up want city to fill out their order as they are going to shut down.  Sell L Dunbar a Bbl of apples.  There are about 7 Bbl left all usable, they don't seem to take very well.  Phebe sick at night with sore throat.  Go bed 10 P.M.  Got up and stand till after midnight.

Part cloudy S.2.  There was light rain in night about 12 and after (.17 in.)  David came 7 A. and worked all day Pd 3.50 for yest and today.  Got Colby to repair the hydrant.  It was pretty well worn out.  David laid good tile wastes from it to 5th ST. and get everything in good shape again.  Tue iron most of  day.  I drove out to Huffmans late P.M.  Dirt road only damp but will soon be dry~~  Tue got long letter from Buddy.  She didn't talk much like coming home Christmas.  Neither does Muggs.  We are looking for Phebe this week.  Mostly clear day with moderate S. to W. wind.  Go bed 8.30

Donsch $5.60 @ 7c. which they sent down after dark.  Comer thinks they  can go to hauling Monday if it does not rain before.  Hat was down in the morning.  Gobed.  10 P.M.

Tell Hibbared to cancel insurance policy on apples.   Bill Pate has been hauling lumber to coal shaft all the week.  Comer claims he can't haul unless I pay extra for it.  The city is wanting lumber badly.  This weather will make good roads in a few days if it does not rain.  Tue fixing over a dress for Phebe.  Won a small turkey in a raffle at Wrights last night.  Gobed 10 PM

Mostly clear S.W. 2.  Tue and I start to Loxa about 9 A.M.  taking Jack and no lunch.  Tue stopped to see Mrs. Gaines and Mrs. West.  We drove up to to house.  They have some thirty acres corn to shuck.  We drove over to Cliffs but would not stay to dinner.  Look at his hogs &c.  He gives me check for 42.79 for 104 50/70  bu corn bringing my half of "pond" called 3 1/2a.  After going about an hour  we get home  at 2 P.M.  Tue gets letter from Muggs at Jeff City.  She seems  to like it pretty well.  Mrs. Knock calls P.M.  Fine day with light S.S.W.  wind clear.  Tue  stirs up old afcs at night and reads an hour or two from this book.  Gobed 8.30 P.M.  We stop at cemetery returning.

Hazy, Smoky strong S. wind.  Mrs. Dickenson comes to iron.  The apple trade not very good.  Some folks complaining about the quality.  Tonight there are 95 Bbls left.  Grand Jury in session Large number of witnesses over from Mattoon on liqour biz.  Geo. Weber called at Store.  The smoke was very thick today wind S. and S.W.  change to N. toward night and  Smoke cleared away.  Engage Mr. Albott B. to work tomorrow.  Tue and self both have toothache.  Gobed 8.30.

Clear, wind N.  Father's birthday.  Buy him hat and hankerchiefs.  John Gucing got killed  on Narrow Guage R.R. last night or the morning.  Abbot comes to work some after 7 A.M.  Chopped up kindling wood, patches roof and piles posts.  Will help tomorrow morning.  Mrs. Young was to help Tue today but will come tomorrow.   Ezekiel Easton finishes  hauling wood, has brought up in all.  Cord  I owe him 11.24.  Riley has brought up 116 oak posts from which I have culled 10.  Pleasant day N. wind dusty gobed 9 P.M.

Clear.  Abbott comes about 7 A.M.  Pulls carrotts and beets and puts sawdust round the house quitting  at 3 P.M.  Pay him in full 1.40.  Pay Carnes old a/c .50.  Jo Liston's Carriage Shop took fire about 4 P.M. but was soon put out.  Went out to coal shaft toward night to see (?) Gannaway.  Father stayed at store  most of day, bis. dull.  Took back Bill Hills sacks.  Clear day but very smokey .  Wind S.W.  Self not feeling very well.  Phebe's right cheek swelled, think mumps.  Gobed. 9 P.M.

Davis regard to lumber inspected Sept. 13.  the City Council last night gave about  five thousand dollars toward sinking a coal shaft.  Try to see  the contraction about timbers.  Went down to A.  Rechter at night but didn't see him.  B& L  Bbl not arrived yet shipped a week ago.  Learn that  car load apples likely to be here tomorrow.  Ed E. sick at night  sent for stuff didn't get it.  I wrote to E.D. Davis about  R.R. lumber inspected Sept. 13.  Jack Logan makes remarks.  Go bed. 10 P.M.

Clear.  Baby feels much better.  Sprinkle of rain in the night and turns colder.  Wind gets in north and  snow flying most of the P.M.  Apples and Quinces from Donay arrives.  No.2  apples don't  suit very well.  Receive dispatch from Donay saying will ship Monday.  Wire him to substitute.  Comer in town and whole gang.  Snider hauls a load of lumber which is about the last.  Go to bed 10 pm.  Clear night.

Mostly cloudy days.  S. wind.  Good many people in.  still have bad cold in head and sore throat.  Nearly everybody same way.  Pay Dorsey's drat for apples and quinces $18.60.   Pay Seph  for sawdust and hauling lumber.  Light sprinkle of rain toward night.  Have about decided to make up balance of timber with ties.  Comer was not in town today.  Indications of change in weather.  Go bed 9 P.M.

Mostly clear wind S.W.  Sprinkle rain a bitty about 7 A.M.  Baby not very well.  Tue  thinks sore throat got chlorate of Potash.  Violent wind all day sprinkle of rain about noon.  Grows colder wind gets to W or N.W.  Went down to Comer's taking Seph.  Come to agreement with  Comer about switch ties.  Got home before night.  Go bed 9 P.M.

Partly cloudy.  Sprinkle rain about 8 AM.  Snider came up taking Tue, Hat and Co. down to a quilting at Fan's.  They came home before dark.  Crass helped pile up load of lumber.  Seph hauled yesterday 757 ft.  Comer in toward night, offered to pay 35 c. per hundred for logs and I agreed to take it for a while he to take everything that will make lumber.  Turns colder after noon strong N.W. wind and cloudy.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

21 Friday.  7 AM.  Ther.  40.  53.  36.

Mostly cloudy wind N.W. got sore throat this morning.  Rec. letter from G.C. Donay with bill for 6 Bbl. apples and 1 of quinces.  Go in partners with W.G. Wright and order car load to be shipped at once.  Wrote letter to T. Nicholson Chicago for Uncle John.  Seph hauls up load of lumber.  950 feet says will go again Monday.  Put on woolen undershirts this morning and feel more comfortable.  Mostly clear with strong N.W. wind.  Decker hauling to Winters and Easton to me.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

Clear, No Frost.  Took pants down to  Lauder Shop to be altered.  Riley Decker makes a grand kick about wood which he cut.  Have decided to pay the balance balance rather than bother any more.  Write  again to Densay about Apples.  Get ready to go timber after dinner was going to vol but he has hurt his leg again`.  Roberts says he will go with us tomorrow and see about making some ties.  Drove  a while with P.M.  Go bed, 10.30 PM

Partly  cloudy.  Dove's cow  in our garden this morning.  Pick up papers for Tue.  Walk down to  Depot to see about  rates on apples.  W.G. Wright says he will  go in with me and buy a car load of apples.  Wrote Densay for first figures on  car lots and order 5 Bbl apples and 1 Bbl quinces.  Drove horse a whole P.M.  Make out  bill of City Lumber 11,003 ft $165.05 and gave it to H.G.  Taggart pays 9.05 at night.  Has  been uncomfortably warm day strong South wind and fair.  Go bed 9 P.M.
