3.  Sunday,    5.30 AM.  Ther.  64.  96.  80.  =80.
Clear. N.1.  Pasture mare on library lot and hitch up early.  Had thoughts of trip to Loxa but too blamed hot.  I drove up AM for Sunday pape.  Tue intended to go to Chatauqua (sic) with Mrs. Brooks but did not feel able .  Ida and Josephine Mullen are visiting in Charleston they live in Oklahoma.  Today ends Chatauqua (sic) which began on 19th.  The Holiness meeting back of Mort Grove's has finished.  Tue remained at home all day.  Toward night I drive south to Finch S.H. and return by Hog Farm.  Clear day moderate Northerly winds .  Roads very dusty.  Gobed 9.30 P.M.

4.  Monday. 5.30 AM.  Ther.  70.  90.  74.  =  78.
Most clear N.E.2.  Seibert did not fix up buggy as promised and I put in day waiting for him  He sends word at night that will do it early in morning.  Get 1/2 bu potatoes at Charley Grims for which owe him 65 cents. PAID  Calls them the "round white."  They are home grown.  Tue  grunting all day and think oat times of getting the Dr.  We did not hear from the girls.  Tue looks for them home tomorrow.  I drove over to  Rhodes tell her to Wash Wednesday instead of Tuesday as intended.  Mort and Kate were over a while at night.  Clear day, moderate northeasterly wind.  No signs of rain.  Go bed 9.

5.  Tuesday.  5.30 AM.  Ther.  60.  94.  80.  =  78.
Clear.  N.E.1.  Seibert came and put in axels to buggy, not fine job.  I hitch to old buggy.  Drive down to light plant and pay for July 1.64 ck.  Call to Tucker Bros. paying last coal bill 5.00 ch.  Drive up to see Abbott about working.  Nobody at home.  Tue goes to Mrs. Hibbard trial with Mrs. Brooks.  It turns out to be one of warm days.  Harman calls and settles for crib  of corn sold.  There was much less than supposed.  Says is going to N.Y. in morn with excursion.  Will visit Geneva.  Corn weighed out 273 bu @ 65 cts.  Tue looked for the girls at noon but they didn't come till after dark.  Buddy and Charles came with them.  Clear mostly with moderate northeast to S.E. winds.  Gobed 10 P.

6. Wednesday.  5.30  AM.  ther.  72.  96.  84.  = 84.
Mostly cloudy E.2.  there was sp. after midnight and again with thunder 6 AM.  Rhoda washed and then ironed till 4 P.M.  Tue not feeling any better.  The girls clean up new buggy and I hitch to it before noon.    Muggs is going back to Jeff City tomorrow and Phebe will leave in a few days.  the three girls with Charles went out to Helens on 5.30 P.M. train returning 9 P.  I drove to Kickapoo at Geis to wash PM. wheels.  Mostly clear clouding toward night.  Return via Wrights.  Gobed 9

3.  Friday.  4.50   AM.  Ther.  80.  96.  81.

About clear.  Picked peck of plums from one of lombard trees find about half of them stung by insect.  Mrs. Dickenson came to iron.  Myers calls and pays 2.00 on rent.  He now owes 1.28 on July.   Aug. will (?) tomorrow 6.00 got letter from Indianapolis man asking about (?) furniture.  Saml. E. Moran.  Made out lot of bills but didn't collect any.  Drove with Tue out nearly to Salem Church at night.  Looks like rain after sun set.  Thunder shower S. about 9 P.M.  Gobed about 10 PM.  very warm night.  Ther. stood at 80 at midnight

4.  Saturday.  5.10 AM.  Ther.  76.  80.  65.

Mostly cloudy day and grows cooler early AM.  Bud lot of peach trees with apricot also some almond ints wild plum.  Miss. Kemayer  pays rent for July.  R.S. Hordgren pays old a/c 6.00  Kelly says will go out to  Uncle Johns early to get cow.  Bim will help him drive her i(?).  Drove round town while at night with Tue.  Prohibition Camp Meeting in progress.  Sr. John of Kansas speaks today.  Coolest day for two or three weeks.  10 PM

5.  Sunday. 6.15 AM.  Ther.  65.  87.  74.

Foggy early.  Clears off.  Bim brings in cow about 8.30.  Kelly did not go out  Baby not feeling very well.  Father and I fixed fence in bottom P.M.  Drove toward night up  N. & N.W. of town with tue and baby.  The prohibition Camp Meeting draws  quite a crowd.  M & P went to church at night.   Self not well went to bed at 8.30 P.M.

Cloudy and raining very heavy, thunder storm from 2 PM till morning, much wind at times.  Milk white cow self this morning.  Went out after breakfast to turn her out and she was gone with the calf.  Put in the day looking  for her.  Kelly helping good part of the time.  Didn't find nor hear of her.  Mrs. Dickenson washed.  Baby sick all day.  Had trying afternoon Saddle of harness broke will have to get a new one.  Pleasent day with strong west wind.  Gobed 9.PM.

Mostly clear S.2. gas.  Phone J.E. Mc for sauce 6 AM.  Feel decidedly worse than usual this morn but hitch up old Kit.  Harman phones will be in AM to settle oats, will bring me some which he did.  His crop was light 858 bu on 62 acres.  My check 150.15 which Phebe deposits P.M.  Harman stays to dinner late.  He leaves part of sack CS at  I.Bs. left over from last spring.  Harman brings 4 bales straw 2 bu oats = 320 lbs.  Straw not settled for.  I got the sauce 4 P.M.  Mostly  cloudy P.M. with rain 8 P.M. (.34) little thunder mostly clear at bed time.  Mugg and Phebe  got  caught in shower.  Go bed 9.30.

Clear N.W. 2.M and P got R.H.  I  hitch up but don't drive till toward night went S.W. on old Johnstown road about a mile beyond Brown  Chapel getting home by State road about 2.30.  Tue over at Grove's at night.  Mostly clear  day clouds late P.M. and at night.  Corn is deteriorating very fast.  Most of late corn will do little.  Go bed 10.

Part cloudy S.2.  Tue gets card from Buddy.  Will be up last of week.  Charles has been sick, is better.  I drove over to Rhoda's AM. to get her to wash tomorrow.  I start to  River about 5 P.M. but so hot gave it .  Stop long time in shade of hedge out by Sam Stevens.  The drouth is getting more serious.  There is but little running water in any of the many creeks.  Riley at Richards bridge shows the most.  Many large fields of oats not worth the cutting.  There can't fail to be big shortage in corn crop.  Mostly clear day heavy cumuli around noon.  Air oppressive.  Gobed 10.

Clear S.1.  Rhoda washed and ironed till 2 P.M.  Tue got a  letter from Buddy..  I drive uptown AM but find it too hot for self.  This about hottest average day we have had.  Harman's calls P.M. says has sold crib of corn to Al Harman @ 65c.  He did  not stay long.  Phebe had Co. P.M.  Fern Griffith and Frances Stoddert to tea.  I drive to Gee bridge to water old buggy.  Pay Phone [313] for June 1.50  I return by Wrightsville and cut off, getting home 7 P.M. fair day cloudy toward night  No signs of rain.  Harman says they had 2 inches at farm Saturday which is about the only rain since Apl.  Tue and girls sleep much of night on floor down stairs  Gobed 10 P.

Clear W.1.  Get shave haircut and shampoo at Browns pd. 50.  They were looking for Buddie up tomorrow but she writes today that Marguerite Reasor is there for a week's visit so Muggs will not be likely to see Buddy unless she visits Mt. C.  Part cloudy P.M. very oppressive heat although ther. did not go high as yesterday.  I take drive from 4.30 till 7 P.M.  there were sprinkles rain 1 to 3 PM. only trace.  I drove out by Latta's place down by Mat Browns and round home by the Gee bridge.  Night too warm for good rest.  Gobed 9.

Cloudy. N.1.  Mostly clear later and our of hottest days,  I drove up town a few minutes A.M.  talk with Harry Messeck about phosphate.  He is getting car of it.  Muggs and Phebe decide to go to Mt. C. today and start on 3.14 train.  Muggs get basket  of melons from Walters.  I get letter from Phelps saying he will rush up the work on my axels and have them sent soon as possible.  I drove after  4P. going east on Westfield road crossing river and a mile E. on north roads getting home 7,30  The river which I forded at the bridge is about same as at R.R. bridge.  Mostly clear with variable light S.W. to N.W. winds.  9.30.

The Weather etc. for July 1913

Mean temperature 81.07  Maximum on 17th 100;  Minimum 56 on 25th.  Precipitation on twelve days .95 inches.  The heaviest for month on one day was .34 in on 26th.  It is  the most serious drouth in many years.  Corn is beginning to show its  weakness.  There will be large shortage in good corn.  The same is true will tall crops in this section.  Potatoes and gardens very poor.  Pastures all dried up.  Prices of grain are rising rapidly.  The markets have just begun to feel effects of drouth.  It covers the West.  Southwest and middle west although many places crops are good.  Small streams all dry.  Winds during month were N. 5 2/3 days;  NE 4 1/3; E 2/3; S.E. 1 1/3; S 6; SW 5 2/3; W 4 and NW 3 1/2 days.

Clear. N.2.  Tue feeling poorly all day and lay in bed most of P.M.  Mrs. and Mr. Grove were over at night.  Self not feel very well.   Jim Burk called wanting some corn, but I have sold mine.   P.M.  drove to to Blakeman place cross river and to top of hill east, getting home 7.15 P.M.  Clear all day.  I did not see Grove's when they called at night.  Go bed 9.30.

Clear.N.1.  Had thought to go to Loxa but too late and too warm.  Tue not feeling much better this morn.  The axles cam by Ex. morn 1.00 ch.  Sibert says will put them on Monday morning.  Mail C.M. Heinlin check 1.50 for pump Harman got of Gl. Oliver Hd. Co. for place.  Warren and Simons call to water horses.  John wants to buy tree cut for bees.  Get few potatoes at Crim's AM.  Drive up town 4 P.M.  Talk with  Vint Decker a while.  Tue got letter from Muggs P.M.  they got there all right 8 P.M. thursday.  Tue over to Grove's to see Mullen girls, Josephine and Ida at night.  Another clear , North wind and very hot day.  City cautions people that river cannot furnish water much longer.  go bed 9.  Did not turn out mare.

Cloudy Wind N.  Caught another large rat which is the third lately.  Spotted cat taken away last week came back a day or two ago.  J.M. Eastin has sold his store room up town to Jay Johnston and will pay note.  I have on him.  Pay up Mike Miller for gasoline stove &c.  Air raw and chilly not so bad  toward night.  Stay at apple store all day but don't do very much.  Good many talking of buying .  Buy buckwheat at Wrights at night.  Mostly cloudy day .  Clear at night.  Go bed.  8.30 - Mrs. Wentz gets bush  Applies on GrS.

Clear.  The smoke so thick for a few days has about gone.  Wind N.E.  Alarm of fire Mrs. Atwells  This is the day for  the Anarchist hanging in Chicago.*  Tue was up town toward night and paid up  Mullen sisters $12.90.  Kate Myers was over at night.  Phebe cried with toothache good deal early in night.  Gobed 10.45 P.M.

Clear, wind N.E.  Pleasant day chilly.  Uncle John was in town.  Learn that over tenant Mr. Young is talking of moving to Terre Haute.  If  he does will probably owe Tue about $18.00.  Comer and Gary were up P.M.  Buy big piece of Ham at Masons which make  (?) sausage at night Phebe still has bad toothache.  Gobed 10 P.M.
