Cloudy and getting ready to rain which began about 8 o.c. AM.  Ring three sows noses  Two more pigs missing this morning, one in spring.  Boy work while I sawing store wood and quit working a while P.M.  Milt repaired roof some and went out hunting in P.M.  Rained at intervals a;; day but not heavy.  Gobed 10 PM

Cloudy but not raining  Ride down to river bottom  Cut L board tree in S. Hollow which wouldn't work.  Look for  more which couldn't find find boys cut one in little Fritz hollow P.M. which we think all right  Start home at 3.30 PM arriving at 6 P.M.  Roads very muddy and slow driving.  Mist and fine rain PM and night  Gobed at 10.30 PM~  Trade has been light this week.

Cloudy and rain at spells all day.  Interested going to woods.  Pay Popham per load of hay. 3.00 .  HG will start for Ark. next Tuesday, with hunting party.  Trade not very lively, am somewhat discouraged about my shed and feed for sheep.  Have done but little toward it for two weeks on account of  rain.  Gobed 11 PM

cloudy.  Southerly wind.  The other Mrs. Owens comes to wash.  Tue  and Lillie move Miss Ford into east room. (shorthand)  Learn at Gaines' that Irene was expected home today.  The roads excepting paved streets are very muddy this morning   Lend Deffenbaugh abstract for ranch.  They are  getting their pipes together in front of Perkins lot.  on way to square with steam heat.  Simons did not come up with corn as intended.  Hatton has not shown up this week.  Went out to Gaines' 2 P.M.  Jo. shucking shock corn.  Has got 14 loads in to  elevator.  They  have only paid 29 cents for past week.  Get a  basket full of vegetables and start home 5 P.M.  Partly clear day slightly cooler than yesterday.  Got pretty good mess of Caprinus comatus at Bill Hill's which which have for dinner.  Jo Gaines has shucked about 750 bush corn to date.  I did not visit Loxa today.  HOme in time  for supper  Gobed 8.30 P.M.

Drove up to Dicks AM and beyond No mushrooms in sight.  See Teo Sefton about coal.  Take Bill Campbell down to his place AM.  They are digging ditch for heat pipes in ally back of store.  Lilly ironing.  CD Mitchell gives me bill for 1200 feet more lumber.  Saw Hatton crossing overhead bridge AM.  They have had saw mill on Decker land north of spring a week or two.   T. Armstrong out of common corn.  P.M. load still in barnyard.  Got a letter from Charley Popham saying need not bring rest of his bill.  Showers P.M. with heavy rain toward night and after dark.  Take Marie over to Weyths after supper to Halloween party.  Corn 30 cts here am entirely out of corn except sweet.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Cr.  Sent draft $120.00 to Loan and Trust Co.  John Simon and Warren up with wood.  Says Ira does not intend to sow any more until after after the election.  Give Bob Chapman key to Perkins room for station purposes.  Charge no rent.  Harry Stoddert wants lot of 2x4 - 12 and 14.  Dun Evans for small bill due.  Tue  sends some shirts to Phebe in newspapers.  Bill Hill called with Caprinus comatus while we were at breakfast.  John Simons calls after dinner and give him bills amounting to some 3600 ft.  Saye Brown in town.  He called P.M. and we settled for all collected by both of us, self to pay hauling.  Give Ira ch for $19.04  Simons not very well satisfied with Tom's management.  Pick balance of quinces.  Had about  1 1/2 bu on three trees.  Fair day westerly wind.  Tue over at  Groves at night.  Gobed 9 PM.

E.2.  Hatton didn't come as agreed.  Self feeling poorly; am much worried about garden.  Hitch up AM.  Take Tue down to McCravys PM. later she went to Hat's.  I drove S.E. of town a while.  The  roads dry  Many of streets quite rough.  I felt so bad all day didn't care to do anything.  We get letter from Phebe.  She sent two records in box but there was but one when received.  Tue is  fretting about her washing.  Can find no one to do it.  Most cloudy with light N.E. winds.  Go bed 9

Mostly cloudy. N.1.  Bill did not appear.  Tue gets Warman girl to help clean out tanks.  I drove to "Andersonville" to look for Steve Decker.  Zett said he had moved to country  quite  lately.  I get two pounds "lawn" grass seed at I.B.M's. 50 c Cr.  got  half bu corn there yesterday.  they are charging full price for things this season.  Tue and self plant some lettuce and radish P.M: trim vines.  Helen was in AM bring some buttermilk.  Tue  got a letter from Buddy.  she and Charley had been exposed to diphtheria but thought danger was past.  Drive over to see Hatton at Joe's.  Bill is working for Latta.  Jo will work for me tomorrow.  I kept on west crossing at Latta and Green bridges and down nearly to Mat Brown's.  I got  home 6 P.M.  Most clear NW2.  All roads are dry.  Streams getting low for season.  Tue went to church night - BMP (?)  Go bed 10 P

Cloudy.  Easterly wind.  chilly day.  Clean up some seed in stable to take to woods  Tue chickens from Ds all went back this morning.  Cloudy day and very dry strong  east wind.  Peaches are mostly in full bloom  garden stuff not growing much.  Have very little planted.  Prohibition meetings are being held at churches.  Go bed 10 PM

Clear east wind NOt feeling very well.  Up town most of forenoon.  There is considerable interest in the election tomorrow both on the license question and politically.  General impression seems to be that it will close all round.  The liquor men are not trying to do anything.  After dinner drove with Tue out to Uncle John's: found him burning brush.  Tue and I drove up to N. end of farm.  Uncle J. gave us some potatoes and 20 or thirty pounds of  pork.  Roads dry and dusty, got home sunset.  Milt Drake was up, his family went down Saturday.  John Rice's boy got dangerously scalded this PM at slaughter house.  Went up to Cancin(?) at night.   Gobed 10 PM

Co. for E. light for Mar. 2.43.  Helen called P.M.  She and Tue  called on Mrs. Glassco (Annie)  She is 81 now living with Liela Bunch on Fourth St.  Cloudy day and much colder before noon wind shifting to N.W.  Gobed9

N.W.3.  Gus brought eggs.  Tue gets wash from Warmans Pd .75.  Tue gets letter from Buddy P.M.  Ad Miller called a day or two ago.  Has been preaching all winter and will finish painting our house soon as weather permits.  He is doing some work for Mrs. Curd.  Theatre putting big bill board just across street.  I felt very poorly all day and didn't hitch up.  Tue goes up town P.M.  Gobed 9

N.W.1.  Nickles calls and pay him 25.00 on livery bill.  Miller left his things here, working a little  for Mrs. Curd.  Tue attended R.C. at Chenowiths P.M.  later went up town.  I did not get out much, am out of corn.  have plenty of oats and straw.  I let mare in pasture P.M. a while.  she was crazy  bout it.  Had intended  to hitch up but seemed too cold for me.  Grace S. called P.M. inquiring about Muggs. Tue wrote Muggs at night and went up late to mail letter.  She complains much of rheumatism or something of the sort in legs and back.  Gobed 9.

S1.  Tue right limb painful from hip down  in night.  Seems better this morn.  She gets up and goes ahead as usual.  this is another raw morning.  We have to continue furnance fire from day to day.  We are nearly out of coal again.  Hitch up P.M. and drive out by Cemetery return south road.  The roads are good.  Hardy Hill has been grading down front of his place.  Walter has a sawmill cutting the timber around his barn and west.  I drove to IBM getting 1/2 bu corn for feed.  Tue ironed some P.M. she took one of Colche sal pills AM and thinks it helped her good deal.  Mrs. Brooks came over spending evening.  Gob 9.30

Clear mostly N.2.  Tue lay till near 9.0c.  Shave  ok AM.  Tue went to church AM and got  4th edition R.H.  We had dinner 1.30  I hitch up 3 P.M. and later drive over to see Hatton.  He  will work for me tomorrow but has demanded more wages.  That is he will quit at 5 PM instead of 6 PM.  The roads not so good as I supposed.  Many  mud holes way I went.  drove down past hog farm returning by Phipps place getting home say 5.30.  Mr. Bell reported worse today.Groves did not come as expected.  Tue did not attend church at night.  Mostly clear light N to E winds.  Gobed 9

Clear.  S.3. Pay telephone for Feb. 1.70  Helen, John and Geo. came 9 A. to stay the day.  I intended to go to sale at McNeil's old shop but didn't feel able.  After dinner order mare and drive SW to Sam Walters gate, getting home about 4 P.M.  Tue went up town with Helen and children before 3 P.  Found roads generally good but I drove mostly gravel road, Jack  went with me.  I drove round by Hattons.  He will come Monday if a good day.  Leave mare at Nickles.  Crawford brought me home.  There is much snow in banks yet along fences and in the woods.  This is first day have driven mare since Jan 31.  Harryman's BC warehouse burned 8 PM.  Gobed 9.30

S.1.  Strong gas.  Light white frost.  Make little  fire furnace A.M.  Tue went to church and got paper.  We had dinner 1 P.M.  Order mare at noon and 2.30 P. drove down Kickapoo road going down by Normal and west at Tom Phipps farm.  Found some pretty tough road but none serious.  Nothing starting much  Pussy Willow earliest.  Catkins on hazel.  The  worst roads were on  road leading E. from Woodson.  Jack went with  me and got treated bad by dog at that farm I came by gravel road meeting several autos.  I got home 3 P.M.  Taking mare to Nickles later.  Clear day light southerly winds.  Tue not well, did not go to church.  Gobed 9.30

Part cloudy.  W.2.  Bill came 7 to work.  He took out all ashes recovering dump to  DR grate.  Trims up much of trees not finished, however.  He went down for IE McRoller Rake yard and begin rolling will come in the morn.  Part cloudy and much cooler than (?) w. to N.W. winds.  I was out doors most of time today and get  pretty well tired out.  Gobed 8.30

cloudy S.2.  Bill finished rolling  "Andy" Cooper took JEM roller to C Lee's.  It rained lightly much of forenoon but Bill worked much of time in barn where we hung a door after much trouble as light rain continued I paid him off at noon ck 2.25.  He will work for Paddy McNeil tomorrow and on L.D. Norton collector calls PM  and I pay him Lafayette taxes $162.58,  It is  some higher than last year.  The young man failed to  sign the tax receipt.  Later Arthur Johns Collector Hutton Tp. came and I pay Hutton taxes 38.02 which is the highest in recent years.  Most cloudy day light showers at times very dark from NW at 3 P.M. growing colder with strong N.W. wind.  Tue went up to  library for book after supper.  Have not investigated Charleston taxes yet but will soon as go up town.  They will return books Apl 1 Norton said.  Gobed 8.30

Clear. N.4.  Today takes good fires again.  Order ton of coal from B.Pa + Co they deliver 10 Am.  think about 600 lbs. on hand yet.  This last order makes over nineteen tons for the past  season.  T.W.P. I fix up solder outfit and repair some tin cups P.M.  Had to est the precipitation yesterday at .10 ins.  Hatton called and want to work tomorrow.  Mostly clear with light northerly   Tue went to church at night with Mrs. Brooks.  Gobed 9.30

31.  Wednesday.   6 AM  ther.  57.  74.  60.  Wright and Hatton get rafters up.  Drove down to  Rogers with Tue in morning.  Got key to Meyers house.  Prohibition meeting in town.   Wrote advertising boards for M. Miller an hour or two toward night.  Pleasant day and uncomfortably warm.  Clear, strong S. wind.  Gobed  11 P.M.

Clear with strong S. wind.  Start for timber about 9 AM.  Bob harrowing.  (?) timothy cold enough to be sown.  Went over to see John Kink is making ties.  met his pasture with load of chips.  Dried over strong all day.  Get home about 7 P.M.  Wright and Hatton worked half day on stable.  Quit for want of lumber.  Bob will haul some up tomorrow.  Gobed 10 PM.

Cloudy,  fog.  NE.2.  Phebe starts for Havana 6.15 car via Mattoon and Lincoln expects to get there 4 P.M.   Tue works hard on her R.C. work much of A.M.  Hatton works at wood P.M. and gets most of large timbers worked up into posts.  Tue attended RC PM at Ollys.  I drove south of town.  Thought might meet some fungi coming on the trees.  The roads except gravel quite heavy.  Mostly clear P.M. light N.E.  Tue over at library night go bed 9 PM

NE 1.  Light white frost reported.  Bill came early at wood helping hitch up.  Tue  prepares for "function" at  church.  I take her up there 11 AM.  Some ladies aid by.  She came home to dinner.  I drove over to Miller's he had gone to one of  his appointments.    Saw Warren and Simons AM with stove wood.  W. has begun plowing his piece.  Bill worked the day and I pay him in full 2 1/2 days. and  he will come again.  Monday.  Clear day  N.E. to E. light winds.  No fungi starting except few campestris in bed in garden  too cold.  Go bed 11.

Clear.S.2.  Shave self before breakfast which we had 8 AM.  I hitched up early and got paper.  Tue  decided not to attend church.  Later I drove up to Dicewoods and to town line returning by Watson road which they have been grading recently.  We have dinner at 2 P.M.  Rene with Dora and son call 4 P.M.  Tue over at Groves a while at night.  She wrote Buddy mailing letter 9 P.M,.  Mostly clear day winds shifting from S to NW and cloudy at night.  Go bed 10

Cloudy and light rain since early morn.  N.E.3.  Have stiff neck.  The sun came out over AM, otherwise cloudy day with northerly winds and light showers till in night in all .55 in to 6 AM (28th.)  I didn't hitch up.  Tue  spent PM at Mrs. Brooks'  Spend day with victrola (sic) and catalogue.  Miller did not appear not Bill.  Think too cold for painting.  Gobed 10 PM

Part cloudy W3  Hatton came working all day at wood and odds and ends pay him full to daye one day  1.50  Miller called and paint on house tomorrow if weaather permits.  Jo Hatton will help.  We got a letter from Phebe.  She reached Havana  OK much earlier than she expected to.  She has deposited her alimony at Charleston trust and savings through H.A. Neal.  Bill and I put storm windows south of furnace room.  We over haul old pile fencing and recover same bout 25% of it has rotted.

Cloudy. N.W.4.  Snowflurries (sic) much of forenoon beginning after 6AM about one inch fell yielding .10 in partly rain.  The ground and trees cover ground and trees(sic).  Tue got long letter from Buddy and one from Muggs who is attending a wedding at Columbus O.  She intends to call a day or two on her way back to Jeff Cy.  Order  bu oats 1 bu corn, bale each of straw and hay of IBM & son.  Tue went up town toward night returning all (8) but four Victor records and getting another lot one twelve inch. and a dozen 10 in.  Tue and self put in evening playing them.  I made pot of mush at night.  Go bed 10 P.

Cloudy.  N.W.3.  Raining.  It began probably after midnight.  Tue got letter from Muggs.  It rained light  much of AM.  I did not hitch up.  Nobody called.  It grows colder and snow flies for two or three hours in afternoon.  Toward night I covered our beans and a few of the tomatoes.  Tue went up town toward night getting some grub.  Cloudy day with N. to W. high wind and light rain or snow most of time.  Gobed 9.  Clear at night.

Part cloudy N.W.3.  The first frost here.  Ice 1/8 in.  Miller came and went to BPA & Co. ordering flooring and glass for repairs at Loxa which he will do tomorrow.  Hatton came and began again at wood pile.  We spent an hour trying to fix furnace grate: he took out the ashes.  They read E. Meter today first for two months.  Rhoda came 10 AM washes &c. staying  to dinner, and working a while P.M.  I hitch up 4 P. and get boxing set in  (Sibert cr.) rear buggy wheels  Billy worked all day and will come tomorrow.  Tue up at library till after 9  Part cloudy light N to easterly winds Gob 9.

left in heavy shower leaving me alone with Jack.  She got home on 4.30 car.   Loxa  phones that glass for door a misfit and will have get other.  Rene phones she didn't go to party on account of rain.  It began regular rain 9 AM continuing all day and into night.  Got letter from Phebe.  Says will be here Thursday.  Cloudy rainy day.  The sun shone once 8 AM.  When thought of hitching up but didn't.  Gobed 9 P.M.  still raining

N.2.  Light rain till after 6 A.M.   This measured in with yesterday except  morn 1.88 in.  See yest.  Miller called says patched floor at Loxa house yest. working 8 h.  He can't account for his mistake in morning glass.  Hitch up 11 AM and get "same" ord yet T.W.P.  Phebe came 1 P.M.  Later she and Tue  went up to courthouse and she got her decree of divorce from Tom and alimony.  Phebe presents me with victrola No. IV which I fool with  till midnight.  Phebe and Tue went to Francis Stodderts to call a while.  We all sat up till near midnight.  Cloudy day lt. R. 8 PM and nt.

Cloudy N.E. 2.  Misty.  Hatton came working all day at wood pile.  Order "same" fro, J.E. Mc morn, getting it about 6 P.M.  Got sample of early ohio potatoes of Crciu.  Try again to see E.E. Tate but didn't.   Learn our phones will be(g)in 3.30 which did.  Meanwhile I drove down E. of normal and get nice mess of  campertris.  Harman and Shrives here when I return.  They want to rent the farm together and I tell them can have it subject to conditions which will discuss later.  They were in buggy and took out ome pears.  Mrs. Brooks over at night, also Mrs. Curd.  The latter went with Tue and  Helen to band concert.  Much cloudy with easterly winds.  Gobed 9.30

Cloudy. E.1.  Hatton worked all day at wood piling S. of old house site.  I drove up to Dicewood again but met nothing in fungus line.  C.H. Mitchell call P.M.  I drove by E. of Normal and round by Phipps place.  Find  fine mess campertris W. of Phipps~~

Met Jim Butler and Normal stud.  The roads have dried good deal today.  Mostly clear P.M.  and at night.  Pay Telephone for Aug 1.50 ch.  Wind E to S. with flavor of gas additives.   Gobed 9.

Partly clear.  Start for timber 7.15 AM.  Nobody at work, will all begin Thursday.  Met Zeke with load of boards which proves to be wrong lot.  Bob not to be found anywhere.  Hear  he is working for Jo Handley.  I  pile up boards in P.M.  Start home at 4 P.M.  Gather basket butternuts.  Came across Skidmore and Leitch whose horse had run away.  They road home with me, got home 7.20.  Gobed 9 P.M. Clear and mostly clear day.  Pick and peel basket of peaches for Tue AM.  Tue about sick from washing yesterday.  After dinner we drove out to Uncle John's and got basket of apples.  Drive round by Perrills when came home.  Wrote letter to Sal Shaw of Parils about lot in bottom.  Warm day.  Sprinkle of rain in P.M.  Go bed 8.15

Clear W. 1.  After getting the newspaper Tue and I plan to take a little drive but decide to let it go till after an early dinner.  Mrs. G came in before we ate, disarranging everything.  Morty came later and both stay the P.M. till nearly 6.  Tue very much disappointed.  I left alone about  5.30.  Drive up to to T. line on J.B. Hill road, west to next road and nearly a mile north past She(?) Popham's where they are building a road of crush stone.  I return by Watsons and south road.  Crop look some better than a month ago not much however.  Mostly clear day light variable winds.  I got home 7 P.M.  Gobed 9

S.E.1.  I didn't sleep much last night - sour stomach and found trouble.  I drove over to see Hatton but he is working on section.  Paul Harman brought in old bureau and took out jag of old lumber ate dinner.  They are going to put a new floodgate accross branch at road.  Tue got a letter from Muggs.  None from Buddy.  Will look for home about Wednesday.  Tue went to Mrs. Brook's 2 P.M.  I stop there for her later and we drove down to Rhoda's and by many devious streets down by Osgood place and home at  6 P.M.  We met Dr. Byres and wife S.E. of town.  Tue went over to see Mrs. Curd at night who has recently returned from Colorado visit.  Gobed 9.

Clear S.W. 1.  Slept fairly well and think bowels better.  I drove down to  (?) Millers AM. to employ him.  He will come tomorrow and repair plastering &c charges 25 c. per hour.  I find patch of campestiss E. of Normal - too old but we have them for dinner.  The Mariesors returned from their Hindsboro visit AM.  Skinner brought them in surry.  Order 3 sacks of wood fiber plaster from Andrews which they deliver P.M.  I drove down to see Emmett but saw only his wife.  He is working.  O ur yard needs mowing.  Walter made a start on it P.M.  Tue got letter from Muggs.  Mostly clear till  late P.M.  Light sprinkle rain at 6 - 7 P.  My bowels get no better and fear will have to call in Doc.  Take small (/) at night.  This seems to be the only meddy in house suitable.  Gobed.9

Part cloudy N.E.1.  Slept fairly well after 1 AM.  Tue got up 4 AM to get me some milk.  My flux seems much the same.  Rhoda washing.  Miller came early.  Hall Record called with bill which did not pay quite yet.  Harman calls about noon but did not stay long.  He wants to turn cattle by corn to S.W. clover.  I did not consent but may do so under conditions.  I feel better P.M.  Have taken little meddy or food: have lived on thickened milk mostly.  Rhoda ironing P.M.  Miller finishes plaster in cellar but as I expected balked(?) at porch piers, fear will have to tear out much of lower part front porch.  Felt so bad did not hitch up.  Walter and Marie drove out to Helen's toward night getting home about dark.  Mostly clear day sprinkle rain AM.  Gobed 8.30

Part cloudy.  W.1.  Phone I.E.Mc C.O. booze which went and got A.M.  Emmett working for Dorsch near Interurban.  Will work for me Monday.  Hatton went to Loxa on first car and fixes up privy.  Pay him as agreed 3.00 P.M.  H.F.H. called A.M.  I feel very poorly and keep round house most of day.  Hottest day to date.  Farmers are discouraged.  The drouth is burning up the crops. Gardens go with the rest.  Mostly clear.  Some cloudy P.M. Some lightning at night.  Tue get hat and letter also birthday sox from Phebe.  She will be home in about a week.  Go bed 9.30 PM.  Get bale straw.  I.B.M. late P.M.

The Weather for May 1912  (He put the wrong year).  Average daily  .66.8:Max 96 on 31st;  Min. 36 on 10th.  Clouds 39%  Percipitation .51 in.  Mostly  .31 on 26th.  Prevailing winds N. 41/3;  NE 2 2/3;  E 1/3; SE 3;  S .7 2/3;  SW .5 2/3; W. 2 2/3, and NW. 4 2/3 days.  It was pretty dry first of month only half inch of rain drying this month has developed one of worst drouths of late years.  Nothing seems to be growing excepting the trees.  The largest corn is but 3 or 4 in.  Much of corn not yet up.  Oats and meadows will be very light even with plenty of rain.  Pastures  getting very dry.

Partly cloudy.  Start for  timber with Kelly about 7 AM.  getting there at 8.30.  Work all day at fence.  Riley Eastin works with us P.M. and will help next week.  Caught seven curculios on plum trees this morning which are the first except one a week or two ago.  Very few of the plums have been stung as yet and hope the season for curculia is about over.  Got home from  timber about 8 AM.  get letter form Cottedon stating that will have to obtain license in order to close out my stocks of liquor  and no rebate is allowed on stamps.  Paid Re(?) order no. 58 on N.McMorris.  Go bed 10 PM.

Part cloudy.  E.3.  Hatton came before 7 AM. working all day.  Fix trellis for grapevines that formerly ran on our old house.  In P.M. he spades site of old building and will come tomorrow.  Rhoda sends word can't wash is sick.  I did  not hitch up and felt poorly all day.  John Grove married tonight.  Gus and Helen in to wedding.  Thunder and threatening 5 PM. showers round light sprinkle here.  Lightning at night and sps Fair day SE 3.  Gobed 9.30

Mostly cloudy,  S.3.  Only trace of rain last night.  Bill worked AM. and pay him up $3.75 for 25th today.  I  drove up town AM get linseed oil at Payne's.  Stop and talk with Jake Daisy.  He has been sick in bed.  Mrs. Sparks washes for Tue and works at other jobs P.M. all day pay ck. 1.50.  I have felt worse than usual all day.  Mostly cloudy all day and thunder at times.  Sprinkles several times P.M. and cooler.  Tue got pretty tired today and retires earlier than usual 9.
