Part cloudy.W.2.  Jo came and went to work 6.30.  Emma Warman helping Tue wash AM.  Jo works all day and will come tomorrow .  Spaded old house garden and begins on mowing yard.  there was sprinkle of rain 9.30 AM. but no  more  and most clear day variable winds becoming easterly.  So grass seed where missing.Tue uptown P.M. and went to Modern Eve show with Mrs. Brooks at night.  Manager of theater gives tickets for use of billboard.  Tue got letter from Muggs saying she  had lately sent me new disc by P.P.  We have not received it yet.  Harman phoned at night: says has his oats all sown -E side of 30 A near Loxa.  Shrieves had not finished.  Tum mare in pasture a while at night.  She fills up with bluegrass.  Tue and trim up some vines and roses PM.  Miller has not appeared.  Promised to begin paint Tuesday.  Gobed 9

S.E.3. gas.Jo came 6.30  Mows yard first time.  I return potatoes to Crims and get some Ohio to plant.  He gives me sample of eating potatoes.  Jo works at garden P.M.  we plant part of oil piece.  Move lot of pie plant, plant radishes carrots, beets okra and potatoes.  Tue went to R.C. P.M.   Clouds up P.M. with sp rain 7 P.M. and a little thunder 9 P.M.  Light southerly winds.  Cooler is predicted.    Gobed 9

Clear.  City election.  Link and Ray in 4th ward;  Record and Richter 3rd; Neal and  Lainon 2nd; and  W.G. Wright alone in 1st ward.  Orr and Patton for Mayor  McCum Treas.  Blankenbaker and Harter clerk  Theaker and Chambers Attorney, are the candidates.  License to sell liquor is also an issue.  The election went off smoothly no excitement and apparently very little work done for and against license.  License carried by 76 majority and the entire dem. ticket elected excepting Chambers.  Had horse shod in front at Rice's.   Buggy got run into by runaway horse.  Clear day E. wind  Go bed 10.30 P.M.

Nearly clear - hazy- easterly wind.  Mrs. Dickinson comes to wash.  Write to Muson & Co. about applying for a patent for improved slat fence.  Sent  model.  Went uptown about 10 AM.  Town full of liquor drummers.  Hyman Freeberg and several others.  H.G. and I give Hyman  constitutional(?) order for  10 BBl Mottingte @150 sp  86.  H & H back to dinner.    Start for timber about 12.30 P.M.  Nobody at Milts am pretty well disgusted with Milt and don't think he will be very useful.  Saw Mrs. Drake but Milt did not come.  Start home about 6.15.  Pleasant warm day clouds up at night and sprinkles rain.  Gobed 10.15

S.W.3  Tue irons finishing before dinner.  She attended Reading Circle P.M. first time for a month.  They met at Hugh Johnstons.  Helen not feeling well and did not attend the Normal.  Self about sick.  Left mare at Nickles all day today.  Cloudy day with moderate S.W. winds.  Learn through Courier that Linder Bros. have sold out their clothing store*.  Sprinkle rain 6 P.M.  Go bed 9.

N.1.  Ray came and did chores.  Pay him to date 85 cts.  He will come Monday morn next.  Mr. Armstrong calls and talks fruit trees a while unsuccessfully.  Tue get letter from Muggs enclosing one from a friend living at the flood in Columbus.  Get Interest note No.2 $750.00   from TM B. Co.  Paid APL. 1.  Helen went home on Interurban after dinner.  Tue got letter from Buddy P.M.  They have been expecting Charles to get measles but think danger past.  Tue went up town for grub toward night.  Mrs. Brooks called late P.M.  Cloudy, moderate north wind with light rain at times.TWP at night go bed 8.30 P.

Cloudy N.3..  Get R.H. of Courier today.   Tue baking bread today.  She attends church AM.   I order mare from Nickles 1 P.M. and about 3 start out for a drive.  Went  east on Ashmore road far as the Huckabo crossroad which find has been graveled since last fall so cross over and return  south road.    Gravel roads somewhat moist, dirt roads quite muddy.  The  fields look soaked and it will be somedays before much farm work starts.  Grove's came over about 4 PM.  I took mare up to Nickles.  Shave self noon.  Gobed  9 P

R to 7 AM for yest. and last night.  Ray did not come.  Rhoda came to wash  say 10 AM.  Tue went to Mrs. Moore's funeral P.M. and over to house A.M.  Helen Hildreth comes P.M. and stays the night.  She with Tue went over to  Grove's after supper staying till 9 oc.  I kept house all day in fact it rained lightly most of the time.  Got late letter from Maggie.  Tue writing to girls after getting home self gobed 9 PM.  Cloudy day E. wind.  R  .57 to 7 AM (10th)

Cloudy and raining from E. or SE continued all day some of the time pretty heavy, some lightning at night.  Girls started to school in rain but returned and remained at home all day.  My cold bad- about same and in house AM.  (not able to read the rest of the entry.)

Clear A.M. with E. wind clouds up.  Maggie went to S.S.  My cold was so bad that I stayed around the house all day.  Very sore after my ride yesterday, much have ridden as much as thirty miles, which is the first riding have done for a dozen years.  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear.  E.2.  Soon clouds up.  Roy came 7 AM.  Get mare shod at Dibert.  Jethoo  Evans phones that my Perkins lot is eligible for PO site.  He calls later.  I ask 120 0 dollars for my lot.  Jethro 4000.  Glascos 5.000.  The Paris man has not reported theron.  Says  will employ Cafer to arrange matters.   Can't find key to box* deeds and try unsuccessfully for hour or two  to open it  think Tue has same.  Get letter  from Buddy AM date 4 inst.  Roy spades for three rows of potatoes and after we began to plant them.  It began light  rain at noon and continued  (too light to read) We  quit at 2  P a/c the rain.  Roy and self plant one row potatoes and rain stopped us at 2 PM.  Jethro Evans came again toward night and I sign contract with him and JW Glasco to sell my part of S.W. 1/4 of block for P.O.  building putting in hands of Judge Cafer at 2% com on purchase price.  Pay Evans 2.00 my share plat.  Tue got home about 6 P.M. having been gone since May 21.  Morty came over soon after she arrived but did not stay long.  Mostly cloudy with strong easterly and light rain at times mixed with hail most of P.M.  Gobed 9 P.M.

*I have this old tin box full of legal papers.I have always wondered why there is just a hole where the lock and latch should be.  Now I know the story of the Deed Box.  This is what is so fun about the journal, it answers many questions.

Clear.  Very heavy dew nearly frost.  Took Sam, Ray's white pony and ride down to R.R. then down to timber getting back at 7.30 P.M.  About as tired as could be.  Caught more cold.  Saw the timber pretty thoroughly today.  Kinks ties suit me pretty well.    Wes Decker gives us leave to move in his fence to get to road out.  Told him he could have all the wood he needed.  The saw mill has moved out.  I went by  Handly Ford and return by Walker's.  Gobed 9.30 P.M.

April 3-6, 1913 in Charleston, IL.

Cloudy, S.5.  there was strong wind all night with lightning at 4 AM.  Ray came but did not do much.  It began to rain about 8 with high showers for an hour or two.  I make general  clean up of dishes  some of which have not seen water for many months.  Everything seems to be getting stale.  My bread for breakfast was not a success.  Helen sent me a loaf of good P.M.  Remit check for E.  Lights for March 2.58.  Mostly cloudy day, occasional light showers (.10).  Strong southerly wind. Didn't hitch up go bed 8.30 P.M.  Plant tomatoes in pan.

4.  Friday 5.30.  Ther.  48.  44.  42.  = 43 2/3  Feb.  Geographic came.  Cloudy S.W.5.  Ray came but began to  raining before he finishes chores so let him go to  come tomorrow.  No letters from Tue but got Mt. C.  (2) papers.  A disagreeable day and growing colder all time.  I had to make fire in furnace.  High S.W. to N.W. winds with light rain several times.  I made pot of mush P.M. and try my hand on doughnuts they were no good.  Mostly cloudy.  Anderson Walton died last night.  Mort Grove was over little while toward night.  Gobed 8.30

5.  Saturday.  5.30 AM.  Ther.  34  58.  50. = 47 1/3

Clear. N.W. 2. light white frost Ray came First set him to raking off garden &c.  Phone IElllc for C.C. sauce.early.  Think ground to heavy to make garden.  Fix pie plant.  Trim   Trim some  scattering trees.  Ray quit at 4 P.M.  He does very well; charges 10 per hr.  Pay him in full to date.  No word from any body today.  I drove up and got C.O. toward night.  Went to Dorschs, some mutton and liver.  Mostly clear day with light , N.W. wind.  Ray will come Monday morning and work the day if I need him.  Gobed 8.30  Self feel rather poorly.

Mostly cloudy.  N.E.2.  My  mutton was pretty good for breakfast  I walk up for R.H.  Hitch up later and after taking lunch drive S. and S.W.  Pass Woodson place on Kickapoo.  John Armstrong pushed me up the steep hill near Mt. of school and near had a runaway.  We had gang in large auto.  I turn south at S.H. to avoid him and drove as far as Kings and and down to near river.  Mare very nervous or would have gone farther.  The river  seemed about half up to bank fall.  Met L.E. Barnes and Co. right there mare made bad break but everything held together.  I left at 2.30 P.M. getting home 5 P.M.  The roads are dry but mostly pretty rough except gravel.  Boys on library all day, baseball.  Mostly clear day with fresh N.E.  Gobed 8.30

Clear W. 5.  Phone Record to send Ray.  He did chores, cleans off mare, and helps hitch up.  We went to P.O.  Nothing.  Will discontinue box April 1.  I get letter 28th by carrier from Tue.  She spoke of starting home this morn but i don't believe she can get here.  Station agent says no travel south of Lawrenceville.  Pay Ray for work to date include 65 c.  Will come tomorrow morn.  I got breakfast and dinner together about 11 AM.  2  P.M. went up to bank to see about a loan.  Felix Shy says come tomorrow noon.  Harman called 3.30 staying over an hour.  Pays me check for clover seed 3.80.  Must have C.S. sent out soon say tomorrow.  His reports from farm not encouraging.  Accident in street front hurt a horse which later they tried to shoot.  Mr. Law paid me 1.25 on room rent, says  owed 4.90.  Drive up to Crims at night for grub.  eggs, soup &c.  Go bed.9

Average daily temperature 41.  42.  Max 70 on 30th Min. 4 on the 2nd Precipitation 7.33 Most of it during last week of month.  Immense rains with much thunder and wind 23d  24  25 and 26.  Great floods everywhere but worse in Ind and Ohio.  Tornados W.  Omaha and west generally.  Little damage done here  River at highest point.  Traffic demoralized also mails.  Six inches snow on 26.  Tue  left for Mt. Carmel on 21 inst. and is still there detained by high water in Wabash and elsewhere.

Part Cloudy.  W. 2.  Ray came working an hour .  He helped hitch up.  Voted mixed ticket.  Went up ti 2nd to felix about loan.  They make out demand note for 700.00 which is about what need and I sign Tue's name along with my own.  Get draft for $750.00 which mail T&M.  Discontinue Box 24.   Go to I.B. Mitchell's and order 6 bu. C.S. sent Loxa INT car P.M.  14.00 per bu.  Mare scares bad at big piece stone in road near Mrs. Leroy's.  Mrs Brooks has written to Tue.  I drove E. a mile or two late P.M.  The gravel road is good other roads rough.  Little mud.  Got home about 6 oc.  No mail today except paper.  collect Mrs. Wests Express Order 1.00  Morty called at night.  they were here Sunday while I was gone. 9 P.M.

Clear.  S.3.  Scarcely frost.  Ray chored and owe him for four days say .55 didn't have any change.  I get letter from Muggs AM. date 27th and daily R.H.  Mrs. Brooks phones inquiring about Tue.  She has learned that there has been washout near Mt. Carmel and that it maybe  three or four days before trains run from Mt.C. to Paris.  Old Mr. Hicks died yesterday, was living alone an neighbors found him dead.  Just as I was getting ready to start up town after eating dinner (ha!ha!)  Warren Decker called, was glad to see him.  He and Heally want to plow up ranch field for me.  He told me to come and stay a week or longer with him, he is batching too.  After Warren left John Simons called hunting for Warren and another invite to come down and stay while.  After he left went to 2nd BK to see about sending Treuett Mathis 750.00 int. on  note  Get book balanced which shows much less than expected.  Went t o P.O. but no letter from Tue..  I let the T. M. matter rest till Monday.  Will have to borrow some.  Ontho (sic) way met Zack Scott and Jim Bolin in alley and talk a while with Zack who invites me down to stay a week.  Rene phones  but I can give her no news of Tue.  The boys have started again on library lot.  Sleep on couch till midnight.

Part cloudy. S.5.  I got new sack flour yest. and made biscuit for breakfast.  There were not gilt edged.  Also got  peck  E Ohios which are no good.  No appetite today so hitch up.  Went up for pape(sic) going to P.O. No mails.  After which drive SW nearly to Mat. Browns but turn north and west and return by Helens.  I did not see anybody learn that J.H> Snider is here; has been at Hot Springs Ark for health.  Helen by phone said she would send me loaf of bread and some eggs tomorrow.  George and Olive Rosebraugh called toward night and stayed on hour or two.  I found roads better than expected.  The fields everywhere look heavy and soaked.  There has been no work done at farming yet.  I drove up to P.O. at night.  I had good relish for vit(?) when got in from my drive.  Cooking bacon and eggs for dinner.  Mostly clear day with strong S. wind lightening NE night.  Gobed9

Cloudy.  N. 3. was cold when woke up owing to no fire.  Paper did not come but got a letter from Phebe.  It began to snow heavily about 10 AM and continued.  The  report in town papers yesterday that river rising and about reached furnace fires at water works.  This morn, no pressure, no water.  It is said they are shipping water from Mattoon.  I nearly finish the coal building fire this morn.  Order load W.Bros.& G.  It came about 2 P.M. 1500 lb. Tower Hill.  P.H. didn't come A.M.  By 4 P.M. the snow is .6 in or more.  I got now paper except Courier today.  The  storms and floods have been immense all over the west worse in Ohio, Nebraska and Indiana.  The mails are all "nix" W.W. shut down by high water.  River higher than ever before.  Reported thousands of people drown in Ohio floods.  Peru, Ind., Terre Haute and mostly any where. Helen phoned evening asking how was getting along.  I ate quite hearty sup tonight.  I was unable to to P.O. but as mail, have quit fora while would have got nothing.  Gobed 9.

Part cloudy, N.W.4.  I got up early - house was cold.  I ate little breakfast.  Jacks appetite seems off, too.  Ray came about 7 and worked hard till 8.30 shoveling snow &c.  I sent him to P.O., no mails and to buy paper.  The storm reports are getting worse.  Thousands drowned in Ohio and Indiana and elsewhere.  Terre Haute and nearby towns about as bad as any.  There is little hands and prac(t)ically no mails.  I got today's R.H. by mail carrier   Morty phoned AM asking if I needed anything.- I didn't,.  Said would be over this eve.  I made a bread pudding and some dutch cheese, both pretty good.  Harman calls 5 P.M. for few moments only.  Reports rains have washed fields badly.  Wants his clover seed soon as possible.  I went up town soon after he left to P.O. but no mail.  Return back way slipping in without Gs knowing it.Part cloudy day, stiff NW wind- The sun cut snow good deal.  Think snow 6 inches I slept on couch till midnight to oil and went to bed.

Clear. SW.2.  Not much appetite this morn:  take some biscuit and milk for breakfast.  Ray came later than yesterday.  He went to P.O. again getting nothing.  I wrote to Tue which carrier takes.  Got papers that were behind this morning.  The reports from floods &c. get worse.  Ray will come tomorrow morning.  For dinner had chicken soup and biscuit   Got letter from Tue P.M. written Monday.  I went to P.O. toward night.  No mail.  Clear day, fresh southerly wind.  snow getting patchy.  I took small can chicken soup for supper.  Gobed 9.

Clear.  N.1. white frost.  Ice 5/8 in. tub.  I neglected to build  up fire in furnace at night and did not sleep after 3 A.M.    I did  not put on much style for breakfast except biscuit   they were not stylish.  Ray came as promised and did up chores all round:  picked up late lot of limbs in yard;  helps me hitch up.  He worked up till 9  Pd .15. will come again Tuesday morn.  drive up town toward night:  got to P.O.  No letter.  Drive W. to Eastern School for exercize.(sic)  Get sausage and pork at Dorsch 15.  Pay a/c at Thos. Briggs ch 2.90.  Met  Alex Gordon on St.  He lives at T.H.  says doing well.  The boys did not play ball on library lot today P.M.  Think board has gotten after them.  Paid 10 Corwin.  Jack sick; had fit in house P.M.  Electric meter man reads today 766000.  Another fellow an inspector of meters came a little later.  He reported our meter all right.  I cooked some sausage for sup. but  could not eat much.  The dirt streets are quite  muddy.  Part cloudy day E to SE wind.  Weather Bureau predicts rain tomorrow.  Gobed 8.30 

23.  Sunday.  5.45.  ther.  42.  86,  68. =  59 1/3

Cloudy, S.E.3.  Light rain from 4 AM. with much mild thunder.  I thought I had good breakfast, fried  pork &c. but no appetite.  Jack has quit eating think sick.  The rain to 7 AM. 60.  It didn't stop long at any time and very dark with heavy rains after 10 oc.  I bought  paper of boy.  I didn't feel much appetite and did little cooking.  After 10 AM heavy showers till afternoon.  I went to sleep on lounge and when got up made about pint of mush which ate for dinner with blinky milk .  Soon as I got through or before Groves came over stay till after 4.  The  Ther. continues to rise and stood at 68 most of P.M.  The rain from 7 AM till 2 P.M. was 1-2 3 in mostly between wo AM and 11 AM.  The branch was very high.  Shave self after Gs left.  They promise to come again -S.!  The sun came out at times after 1 P.M. but mostly cloudy day.  More rain at night: furious wind with heavy dashes of rain all night.  I felt poorly and took oil.  Slept on lounge from 8 P.M. till 11.30  Gobed midnight

Part cloudy S.W. 3.  No appetite this morn and ate little .  Wash up accrued dishes.  It looked like big pile compared with food have consumed.  H.G. called AM.  Is looking for a house they have to  leave Lizzie's.  I sold him old silver watch for 5.00 will pay when  gets pension.  I wrote short letter to Tue AM.  It began to  rain 10 AM and continued  all day and much of night.  Wind light variable some very heavy showers.  Total from 7 AM today till &AM (25th) 2.55.  This makes 5.03 inches i about two days.  I went to P.O. late getting letter from Tue written sat gob 10.45

I tinker with the clock P.M. till I thought it spoiled but it has been doing well ever since Sleep on  couch 8 to 11.

S.3.  Rhoda wash early &c.  Hitch up AM driving out to Watson corner.  Went south road returning N.  There was no mud nor water anywhere.  Tue worried because Phebe does not write.  Mare had bad scare near Huffmans - telephone men stringing wire.  Tue potted ferns taking one to Mrs. Bell.  The Bell's are building same.  Mrs. K he R has new tenant-moved in yesterday.  Rhoda irons P.M.  Self "rest" most of P.M.  Tue grunting think caught cold last night.  Ray does chores and let him go.  Paid in full 75 cts.  Promised to come Sat. morn and work a while.  Part clear day with violent southerly wind and signs of rain toward nigh.  Official report rain tonight and colder.  Sprinkle rain 5.30 P.M.  Read A. Partly clear, smoky.  Strong S. wind Laudes sawing up maple sticks on yard.  Get gray horse of Sam Ray and Hills out to Trowers woods to see Kible and Rutherford.  They have been down to look at timber and think they will move down make and send ties.  Began to rain about noon and rained lightly most of times till night.  Strong S. wind all day.  Gobed 10 PM.

Clear S.3.  Helen Hildreth called a while AM on her way to the Normal.  Tue attended the Rankin Funeral P.M. with Mrs. Brooks.  At night she went with Mrs. Curd to concert at Normal.  I hitched up about noon and after Ray got shores done He went with me up town.  Pay A.G. Frommel a/c to date 12.30 check.  Will Campbell 35 cts cash.  Got some eggs Helen left at IBs.  went to P.O. no mail.  Drove out far as Huffamns Ray going.  Meet Harman going home.  He had bought a pump at Olivers my a/c.  I did not tell him to.  Clear day with high southwind.  Was surprised to find the roads dry most of the way.  He supposed the mud deep.  Tue got home 10 oclock.  Gobed 10.

Clear, light white frost.  Went to s(?) Rays in morning to look at house to ride but did not see one I would like to try.  Measure up wood on yard.  there is just about  8 1/2  cords.  Gueney wants half a cord tomorrow morning.  This is about the first spring day we have had.  Mostly  clear with light south wind.  The ground  is frozen pretty solid on N. side of house.  Kates Myers and Davis over P.M.  9.30 ~~

Mostly clear.  N..W.  2.  Tue phoned for R.H. which they delivered.  Tue did not attend church.  She  roasted big piece of salt pork for dinner.  She is talking  of going down to  to Mt. Carmel  this week after  the young men get out which is promised tomorrow.  Mrs. Curd calls P.M. till near night also Mort and Katie.  Mr. Law stopped in sitting room while at night.  Ray did not come till quite late.  Part clear day with high N.W. wind and near freezing much of day.  Self feeling poorly. Most clear S.E.2.  Tue straightening up Lee and Law room.  They got out today .  Law owes 4.35 and 7.35.  Tue gets letter from Buddy the first for two or three weeks.  Cliff Harman calls P.M. and will get chimney top for farm at Geo. Shriver.  I decide to get my clover seed of IBM.  Will sow about 60 acres.  Cliff wants to buy  west 80 of place; but have known this for long time.  Ray picks up in front some.  Mostly clear day with strong SE to Southerly wind.  I have felt but poorly.  Tue went with Mrs. Brooks to a spelling contest at night leaving me alone.  Gobed10.

Clear, hazy. S.4.  There was strong S.E. or S. wind all night.  I hitch up AM.  Drive down to B.P. Andrews to see about account .  Harman phones about kitchen chimney at farm.  It must be fixed.  Tue went to R.C. at Pophams.  Monticue wants to buy bill board.  I went to Brown's for shave and haircut P.M. pd.  He cashed 5 ch for me.  Pay Ray up to last Thursday .70.  Tue went up to see Mrs. Brooks before supper.  Later she got riled and over to Groves ? where she stayed till after I went to bed.  She  is worried about  the young men.  Wants to get them out this week.  Harman did not appear.  Get letter from Mr. Oakley of Loxa calling for  fence paper &c  on house at Loxa.  Part clear day and the  warmest since Nov. 11.  It grew colder late P.M.  Sp rain 1 P.M.  Gobed 10 P.

Partly cloudy.   Carlo has been gone since last Saturday, we think he has been poisoned.  They have been killing dogs lately,  I sowed nitrate on strawberry bed.  Trimmed some peach trees in the AM.  Don't feel right though.  Frank McGurty was fined 85.00 and put in jail 10 days by Judge Hinley for selling whiskey without  license.  Comer was up says he has turn up getting ready to move mill.  Mrs. Perrill and Kate called toward night.  Tue working on dark blue dress for Maggie which she finishes.  Gobed 10.30 ~ clear day E. wind.

Part cloudy, S.2.  J.H. Parker called an hour or so He has been  visiting at the water works.  Says they have the filtering  plant in full operation.  Pay L.D. Norton Lafayett collector 1912 taxes for that township.  We called at house.  Tue went to the G.R. Chambers funeral P.M.  I hitch up after dinner but did not use the mare.  Light rain rain about  3 P.M.  and much heavier later.  Tay helps unhitch.  Some quite heavy thunder about 4 P.M.  Mostly cloudy day stiff SE winds  Part  clear at night.  No rain after dark.  Tue now expects her roomers to get out  Saturday.  Ray does not do much and will let him go soon.  Finish Treasure Island.  Gobed 9.

Cloudy.  Wind N.E. fresh.  Half inch snow on ground cleaned off and was pleasant day.  Mrs. Rogers did not come to wash.  Will come tomorrow went up town and  got 43/4 lb. lard sent 2 gal. jar up to fill P.M. at Masons.  Emma Knock and and Fatty's wife were over in afternoon.  Have not felt well to day.  Have not yet sent order for fruit trees.  Gobed 9.30

Mostly clear.  Wind N.W.  Rent house to Roscoe Myers @ 6.00 per month in advance.  Stop at Mrs. Norfolk she buys a cord of wood and Myers takes the job of sawing and delivering it.  Comer was up from woods give him bill of 5000 feet of black oak fencing to saw up.  Tue sent Maggie down to Mrs. Rogers to tell her not to wash tomorrow.  Roads very sharp and rough worst time this winter.  Clear all day with fresh N.W. wind.  Go bed 10 P.M.

28.  Tuesday.  6,45 AM.  Ther.  10.  35.  33.
Clear.  Brisk S. wind.  Baby not very well.  Tue giving her  caster oil Mrs. Cayton delivers.  Saw Ray  2 cord wood @ 3.50 del.  Bruce Myers finishes Mrs. Norfolk wood for which I allow him .75c. on rent.  Went down to Nick place with him  to see what it needs to make it comfortable for them.  Walked back by R.R.  The co. have not recd the last pile of stais.  Stop at Fuller's lumber yard.  Spot up my posts and lumber before night.  Clear day with brisk S. Wind.  There was an alarm of fire just as we were going to bed.  It was Al King's house which burned down.  Go bed 9.30 PM.

29.  Wednesday, 6 AM.  Ther.  38.  54.  48.
Fair with fresh southerly wind which blew all night.  Sell Hub Huffman half cord  wood on an old a/c I owed him for hauling.  Myers gets some things for repairing house at Fullers and  I bought him some glace for the windows.  N.B. Huffaman buys 1/2 cord of wood and I pay an old bill he had against me for hauling.  Tue washes a lot of things and will not have hers R wash till next week.  Light rain occasionally and fresh S. wind all day.  Comer was up town.  Bought can of oysters at night at ices Lees.  Go bed. 9.30 PM``

Cloudy.  Raining early.  wind S.E.  Girls did not get ready for school so remained at home AM.  Baby about sick something like the flux.  Tue gives her several small doses oil.  Some of "the boys" get a petition for vote on license to present  to City Council at night.  Father kills two last roosters and picks them in morning.  Tue took baby over to Davis toward night.  this is the warmest day in several months and is drawing the frost out of the ground pretty fast.  Go bed 9.15 PM.

Cloudy.  NN.E.3.  Light fog.  We see by yesterday's paper that Florence Gaines at Loxa has  boy born yesterday.  Learn this morn that Walter Linder is dead at hospital in Chicago.  Tie up brush broom for Tue A.M.  The RC will not meet tomorrow.  Mr. Law on sick list and keeps his room much of day.  Cloudy day dark and damp. Quarter  of inch fine snow fell after dark.  Self feel poorly.  Have been reading too much as well as eating too much.  Gobed 7.30.

28.  Friday.  6 A.M.  Ther.  24.  38.  32. = 31 1/3
Cloudy. N.2.  The trouble in Mexico has been filling the papers for several days.  Mr. Lee who has recovered from measles resumes room today.  I supposed he had left.  Tue and self both not well and we attribute same to  too much graham flour.  Mostly clouday (sic)  day with N. to Easterly light winds.  I shaved myself late P.M.  The little snow of last night disappeared and another one came late P.M. and tonight say 2 1/2 inches.  Tue went  over to Groves the evening getting home about 10 P.M.  The snow was from easterly, began say 3 P.M. and yielded .23 in Precipitation.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Average daily mean 31.14 Maximum 66 on 19th Minimum.  0. on 5th Precipitation 1.79 in about half of it being melted snow.  there was about 8 inches of snow.  Cloudiness 44%.  Prevailing winds north and southerly thus N. 6 2/3;  N.E. 1 1/3;  SE 2 1/3; S 4 2/3;  SW 5; W. 4. and NW 3 days.  All roads have been very bad were getting good until this week.  The ground Mar. 1 covered by two  or three inches snow.  There has been  little changes in prices  Hogs are going up Ave 8.60 in  Chicago.   Corn , here, say 40c  oats 30.  Butter 30 to 40  Eggs 25.  They are still working on water tank on Monroe ST.  Have two sections of tank up and the connecting pipe in place.  I have not been up then for two weeks.  The Council are thinking of installing meters for the water.

Clear. N.W.2.  Ray came 7 AM. cleans off snow working over an hour.  Walter Linder was buried today.  Tue  ironing much of A.M.  Ellen Elkins called about noon in on her way to Bushton.  Mr. Laws, the roomer is down with measles.  Tue was uptown late. P.M. getting grub, bacon, etc.  Mostly clear day did not effect snow much.  Clouding up toward night with snow flurries and growing colder with high westerly wind all night.  Gobed 9

Clear, N.W.1. Roomer Lee returned from the measles last night.  Tue gets long letter from Muggs and Buddy.  He quit his room today being arrears about 3.oo.  Tue went to Mrs. Brooks late P.M.  I felt poorly alll day and did not move around much - perhaps not enough.  Ray did feeding.  Order  ton Linton coal of Whalen Bros. to be delivered in morning.  The Panama coal will not heat the house.  Part cloudy clear at night, light northerly wind.  9.30.

Cloudy with strong W wind which came up in night and  has been snowing a little.  Jim Stevens called P.M.  about note.  Comer up he concedes my a/c is right.  Buy crinoline 35, pr shoes for Phebe, dress for Maggie.  Milt Roberts got 1/2 cord of wood.  Cloudy, windy day snow flying.  Go bed 11P.M.  Garden seeds came from J Harris.    Comer reports some small bills.

Clear S.2.  Rhoda got here to wash before Tue was down.  She washed and did other work till noon staying to dinner.  Tue attends sewing party at Lulu Dorsch's.  Hitch up about noon but did not use mare till near night.  She made bad break in turning on W. side and came near accident.  Tue  got home before 6.  She spent evening at Grove's.  Mostly clear day hazy.  some cloudy at night.  The warmest day for many weeks.  Gobed 8.30

Cloudy N.2.  Dark morning.  Light fog.  Tue goes out to Helens for day on 10 car, returns at 5 P.M.  Paid water rates 6.00 to July 1 to girl yesterday.  I hitch up noon but did not use the mare.  Ray comes at 4.  There is not much choring to do now and we are thinking of letting him go.  Mostly cloudy damp day.  the sun just shone once about 10 AM.  Light northerly winds.

Cloudy. E.2. foggy.  Tue tries another batch of bread.  She went to RC at Mrs. Reats P.M. It began light rain 2 P.M.  I get shave at Brown's P.M. pd.  Met Uncle Billy Whalan.  He is 82.  Also meet Chas Steigman, Geo Steigman better and able to be uptown.  I hitch up at  noon but didn't drive on account of the rain.  Light showers till dark with a little thunder about 4 P.M. Ray did chores leaving basement lights on again till bedtime.  Tue intended to attend reception at Rev. Piers but did not feel able to go.  She also had tickets for show at Opera House but didn't  use them.  cloudy day E to S. wind and .10 in rain P.M.  Gobed 9

Cloudy W. 6 su.fl. AM.  There were heavy rains in many places yesterday.  Sleet in Chicago.   They read E. Light meter today. 720.000.  they made mistake as it read 730.000.  Tue ironing AM.  Jo Maffett calls wanting room.  Tue went uptown toward night and from there to Hats where she spent the evening till 9 oc.  Mostly cloudy with  very high westerly wind all day and at night.  Gobed 9.30

Part cloudy, red clouds. S.3.  Tue irons most of AM. and Keeps on.  I sort out old junk in shed and clean off mare AM. John Simon calls after dinner reporting everything all right at ranch.  One King from Diona called PM wanting to cut some  poles , I refused.  Phoned J.E.W. morn for same. Hitch up before  Ray came and he went with me to Interurban fore for Bill in same.  Stopping at P.O., coming home.I got letter from Phebe she was yet in Chicago at Gages 12th inst.  Later I drove out to Huffmans returning S.road.  It is not as muddy as I supposed.  They have been erecting frame for big water tank opposite Interurban on Monroe street since I was down that way Jan. 30.  Ray rode to Division with me.  Tue went up town after I got home about 6 P.M.  Several dogs have been poisoned in neighborhood lately.  The roads not so bad as supposed.  I get Andrews bill today it is much larger than had expected.  It includes all at farm.  Roof rc for barn and roof and stripping for BC shed also current and lumber for Extension WC SW corner of house and repairs  on Loxa house.  Mostly clear till P.M. wind got NW and cloudy.  Papers predict cold wave.  The snow is gone except patches on North hillsides.  Go bed 9 P.M.

cloudy N.2.  Tue retired latae last night leaving cellar lights on  they burn till 7.30 AM.  Tue slept till nearly 9 oc.  She attended church with Mrs. Brooks AM.  Getting paper which is now 5 cts. instead of 6 as formerly for a year or two past.  She went calling with Mrs. Brooks P.M.  I wait for Ray to come to help hitch up but did it self before he arrived.  I drive SW Keeping pave and gravel till turn E. OakRidge SH.  Chilly driving roads generally muddy wind getting in S. clouds up.  I got home 5.30 Tue later.  Tue writing Marie tonight.  The lights were all out for a while about 9.  Mostly clear, varible winds light rain 9 P.M. and later.  Gobed.9.

N.1.  Lt. wh. fr.  The rain last night (.10) thin ice.  Tue still writing to Buddy and sends package by Parcel this morning.  Tue  over to Bells P.M.  Mrs. Grove called 2 P.M.  Public service Co have been cutting their useless poles today on 6th St.  The city taxes every pole standing.  I hitch up about 4 P. Drove E. on  Westfield road a mile.  They have been scraping it.  The roads are worse than yest.  Met J.E.M. near Crums store.  Clear Day light variable winds becoming southeasterly at night.  Gobed 9.P.

Clear S.E.3.  There was strong southeasterly wind all night.  One of young men (Lee) roomers thinks has measles and keeps his bed A.M.  Tue prepariing for R.C. Function at Jo Reats this P.M.  I hitch up 11 A.M.  Find the terrapins in box since last Aug. doing well.  Supposed they were dead.  Lee finds he has Measles and goes home with friend to recover P.M.
