January 1892

7.  Thursday 7 AM.  Ther.  -5, 18. 20 =11

Clear with S.W. wind.  Get ready and go to work at cutting and put up ice.  Crass and Rice cutting and Kizer and Rhodes haul.  The Brownfields helped a little.  Harrison Mullens packed the ice  we finished filling ice about dark.  Got about six loads inside and piled one outside  The whole cost us about 8.00  The ice is average 4 1/2 inches and very good.  Several parties are talking about putting an ice plant here and have been soliciting subscriptions for two different companies.  Al Latta and wife left last evening for the south to be gone several weeks.  Recd.3.70 from WH White for ten ties rec??ed last week.  Pleasant day mostly light cloudy spit snow about 11 PM S to SW wind, W at night.  tue has caught very bad cold supposed from changing to thinner under clothing  Gobed after midnight.

8.   Friday 7 AM.  Ther 15.  24.  9. = 16

Mostly clear west wind.  Tue's cold about the same as last night.  H.G. [Henry Gramesly]  went hunting with Den  Dowling  [Henry's brother-in-law] and R.S. Curd getting  back about 4 P.M.  Variety Show in town at night.  Mostly cloudy day snow flakes bout 4 P.M. wind  W and NW.  Trade somewhat better than last week.  Docifer and Brady pulling up 6 inch ice.  Clear night and change for colder go bed midnight

Cloudy.  Very high S. to West wind all night with snow flurries.  Didn't sleep well for wind and snow sliding off roof.  Mrs. Cunningham washing.  High west to N.W. wind all day and mostly cloudy with light snow flurries.  Sidenstricker wants to  rent part of old shop for team.  Let him have it for 50 c per mo.  just for stable and feed.  Done through phone for Loxa.  Tue got letter from Maggie who arrived in Champaign.  Gobed 9 PM

Clear, high NW wind  Snowflurries night  and early  morn.  Dessa and Tue iron.  Dick and Bert Wright finish 2 cords of wood piling it west of back door.  Pay Dick in full for 2 cd  saw and split 3.00 and 65 for labor to date.  Tue check 3.65  I have not investigated conditions at store yet.  Tue up town town P.M. and was sick all night with sore throat &c.  A cold clear day with with NW wind not so strong as yesterday.  Go bed 9. P.M.

Mostly cloudy  west wind.  Tue and children went to church.  Start for ranch 3.15 P.M.  getting before dark  No Sup.  Mostly cloudy day with NW wind  gobed 7 P.M.

December 1890

1.  Monday, 5 AM.  Ther.   30.  40.  30.

Clear morning with white frost.  Simon and Johnny make boards in little hollow east of mill site.  Jo H. hauls out a load of 1500 boards.  Warren took Latta a load of wood.  Chut took up a load of ties.  Started home after dinner getting there  about time Jo did helped him unload his boards.  Father and Tue ate dinner with H.G.  Clear AM more cloudy P.M.  Had cold trip today.  Go bed 12.30   letter from A. Ansley.

November 1901

30.  Saturday.  6.20 AM.  Ther.  26.  55.  35. = 38 2/3

Clear, East wind.  Send $2.00 to Record Herald for six month subscription for daily from Dec. 9, 1901.    Paid Bert Wright bal. due him for sawing wood.  Warren Decker called P.M. saying they had corn gathered and would bring it up Tuesday next, 56 bushels. This is  my share on the 10 acres down there.  I drove and called on the Col. [H.G.] A.M.  Found him in bed and feeling badly.  Dr. Iknyan was there.  John McGurty asked  price on bottom lot -  presume for Carnegie Library.  Did not price it.  Mostly clear day with E to S wind.  Had talk with John B. Hill AM.  Jackson St. is still closed to travel waiting to finish paving.  Lot of young people here till late.  Tue over at Groves till 10 P.M.  I took her down to see the Col. toward night.  Simon was in town but 

I didn't see him.  Buy three galvanized coal buckets at Crinas 70 ct paid.  70 ct. paid.  Gobed 9 PM.

December 1901

Mostly clear.  Southerly wind.  Olive makes angel food AM. I drive south of town AM. toward noon getting home time to see Maggie and Olive off.  Ferd rode to depot with me.  Take snap shot of four men near woodpile today.  The roads are good.  I drove after dark down to tell Mrs. Smith not to come to wash if it rains tomorrow.  Tue over at Mrs. Knocks.  Mostly clear clouding up toward night SW wind  Sprinkle rain after dark.  Gobed, 9 P.M.

October 27- 28, 1912 in Charleston, IL

27, Sunday.  Ther.  42.  70.  56. = 56.
Clear. S. 2.  Get start Ranch 9.30 AM.  Took Jack: he rode much of way.  Mare drowsy.  A mile or two of fresh gravel made slow trip.  Met J.K. Rardin with Bony Whittey.  They had been to Rardin's "ranch"  Says he has  10 A. down there which he can't find without survey.  Reach Warrens about 11.  W. not at home.  Jack and I ate our dinner out at old point.  I start to walk  down the hill but gave it up after getting halfway.   Most of leaves are on trees but falling  fast now.  There is fine stand of clover on much of old field in the weeds.  It is  growing up to blackberry sasafras (sic) and persimmon.  I did not drive through it much.  Warren says he and Ike R. will give it any  treatment I prescribe.  I did not go around by  Ikis R. but return by regular Diona road same as went.  Got home before 6 P.M.  Bert Wright caught ride with me.  I did not meet many autos.  Clear day moderate southerly winds.  The roads are getting very dusty, Mrs. Eagleston was here to supper and attended church with Tue at night.  She lives at Seymore, Ind.  Go bed 9.30

Clear. S.@.  Paint an hour or two in  W.C.  Tue a while P.M.  Hitch up A.M. but didn't drive any till toward.  Tue got letter from Buddy says Walter has had his salary increases.  Muggs gets offer of position in MO. State Library as manager of Traveling Libraries.  Harman phones that wants to sell clover seed and BC and wants me to come out.  Bails to clean up S.W. forty and sell corn (only 3 A) has disposed of his share.  Tell him to sell mine too.  Have promised to  visit farm tomorrow.  Mostly clear day with fresh southerly wind.  Weather reports predict rain in day or so.  Gobed. 8.30 P.M.
