30.  Thursday 6 AM.  Ther.  38.  44.  36.  =  39 1/3
Cloudy. N.W.3.  the snow disappeared in night.  Miller called P.M. also dew.  Miller doubts whether  he will get to paint any more this fall account  of weather.  He leaves Sat. for a revival down in Shelby to last indefinitely.  Cloudy day NW wind.  Self feel poorly Mrs. Brooks and Mrs.  were over at night until 9 P.M.  I did not hitch up today.  Go bed 9.30 PM.

31.  Friday.  6 AM.  Ther.  28.  44.  30.  = 34
Clear. heavy white frost N.W. 1.  ice 1/8.  Jo Hatton came but too cold to paint.  Miller came and tried it, but gave it up.   Self hitch up 10 A.   Pay Miller in full to date 3.30 check.  See stub.  Mrs. Grove called an hour.  I drive west part of town AM. passed Jo's but didn't see him.  Tue mops up after MG departed.  H.G. calls and I sign note for 35.00 with him. ninety days at State Bank.  Tue went R.C. at Ollie's P.M.  Miller called to get tools and say goodbye.  When he returns from two weeks revival meeting it will be too late to do any painting.  Clear cool day with light northerly winds. and coldest day to date this fall.  Halloween  not so boisterous as usual.  They did not bother us.  Go bed 9 P.M.

Average temperature 54.6  Maximum on 10th 84  Minimum on 31st 28.  Rain on ten days  4.47 in.  Cloudiness 49 percent  Snow on two days 20th and 29th about 1 inch.  Wind during month was N 5 1/3,  NE 3 2/3, E  2,  SE 2 1/3,  S 7 2/3, SW 1.  W.  2 and NW 7 days.  First  half month warm latter half cooler with some heavy rains.  Dirt roads have been quite muddy recently.  Most of rain has entered the ground.  The streams are beginning to run.  There has been great scarcity of water in places.  The city supply seems to be ample.  Little shrinking done as yet.  Don't think  elevators are buying any.

1.  Saturday.  6 AM.  Ther.  24.  46.  34.=  34 2/3
Clear SE 1.  Ice  3/8 in.  I hitch up AM but did not drive far.  Went to Creamery for some Cream AM.  We look for Muggs all day but she didn't come nor did  we hear from.  Grace Sefton called late P.M.  Tue uptown in afternoon.  I spent much time with furnace fire.  We don't like the coal recently purchased from  BP & Co.  They called it Tower Hill washed nut.  Tue and I home all evening  Gobed 9

May 23-25, 1913 in Charleston, Illinois

23. Friday.  6 AM.  Ther.  52.  64.  56. = 57 1/3
Cloudy N.W.2.  Cloudy all day with  moderate northerly winds.  I hitch  up AM driving up for  coal oil and potatoes.  Mrs. Grove was over P.M.  Tue finishes her cleaning in dining room and parlor.  I drove 4 P.M. to  Wrightsville and beyond.   Saw some good chickens but didn't try to buy any.  Met John King on road home: says there was big fire SE of his place last night.  I feared it was at the ranch.  I got home 6 P.  Chilly day time in the country.  Most of corn is planted but little of it is up. yet.   Oats are very small and thin but good color.  Garden stuff not doing anything,  I got lot of white oak leaves which will try on my mouth.  Had good furnace fire all day.  Gob 9.30

24.  Saturday.  5,30 AM.  Ther.  52.  80.  64.  =  65 1/3
Clear N.W.2.  Harman phones early.  Says is through planting corn yesterday.  Will get ready  for B.C.  Mrs. Harman came in 10 AM putting her horse in barn while she attended a market of Loxa church people.  I drove over to Jo Hattons AM  but could not find Bill.  Buy chicken at church market 85 c.  Met Jack Scott up town and he talks a  while in buggy.  Later I drive out far as Watsons returning S. road.  Mostly clear day light variable winds.  Tue  over on back St at night.  I  decide the "oak extract" too strong for me.  Go bed. 10 P.

25.  Sunday.  5 AM.  Ther. 60.  84.  68.
Coudy.  SW. 2.  Tue did not get up till after 8.  She did not go to church.  Duval's boy brought our paper.  The old mare would not leave pasture until noon when I hitch up.  Late P.M. to look the crops.    Went up by J.B. Hills, E. on  Tp. line to Anderson road. and then home.  The prospect not encouraging.  The earliest corn is about two inches high.  Oats are small and not growing.  A good rain would change everything.   The dust is getting deep in ruts in roads.  Cloudy day light southerly winds.  I got home 6.30 PM.  Tue and Mrs. Curd went down to Hats evening.  Light rain about 8 P.M. September 29, 1912 in Coles County, Illinois

29, Sunday,   6 AM.  Ther.  50.  62.  50.  = 54.
Cloudy, N.3.  Tue attends church AM and night.  I hitch up early but did not drive until after 4 P.M.  Went down to Emmett's.  Didn't see him.  Jo Hatton gave me some onions.  I drove out by Latta's returning by Helen's.  Met big auto Corsell bridge  going.  Another at high bridge near Helens.  I left mare at Nickles getting home 6 P.M.  Clear day with fresh N. wind.  The roads are dry and generally good.  Jack went and had a ride much of the way.  Gobed 10P.
