Cloudy.  There was sp rain sometime in night.  Get shave and "trimmed at Browns AM.  Pd 25 c. and went to Nickles and get my rig.  Show lines to Al. Frommel.  Maggie having worry about one Calhoun at Library.  Tue  went to Loxa on 2 P car to meet Irene at Dora's.  I went to Tates to try coat of suit he is making for me.  He sent home one pair pants. Emmett will come Monday Morn.  Mrs. H called night also Grace Sefton.   Buy 25c. corn at old Mill.  Mostly clear day moderate northerly wind.  Gobed 9.30  I drove S PM return by Wrights.

today early southerly wind 3.  Get mare about 9 A. thinking to go to Loxa.  Start by timber route but too threatening and return by Helen's getting just in time for shower.  Light rain much of P.M. only (.12) in. gloomy, mostly cloudy day.  My mouth worse than ever, will have to quit chewing tobacco and other things.  Tue went to  Hat's P.M. and to church at night.  Gobed 9

Mostly cloudy. N.W.3.  Mabel came 7 A, she has been sick gone since last Sunday noon.  Emmett comes 7 A to mow yard &c.  Drove round town while before noon.  Order CO of Tierney AM,  Jo Bill called after dinner.  He works on Loxa section of big four R.R.  Drive  out to cemetery with Emmett.  He cut the grass on ours and Snider lots.  Stop at fairground on return hunting for mushrooms Didn't find any.  Harman phones will have to replant much of his B.C.  Tue over at Brooks at night.  Part cloudy NW Gobed 9.30

Clear S.E. 3.  Start Loxa about 8 a.  Didn't take Jack nor dinner.  Drive through Loxa.  found Harman and Jack Peterson replanting BC 19 a. south 1/2 side of NW 40.  Later sow Shrieves just finishing his 27 ps corn.  Distant thunder warned me to start home at once.  The storm caught me at fairground and I got pretty wet before I reached home.  Much  and heavy thunder.  the barn at old Jesse Veach place was struck by light and burned.  Rain ceased about time I got home at say 1 P.  Much wind with rain.  C.O. came PM.  think caught a little cold.  Tue and  Phebe went to movies.  Maggie at Library.  Mabel did not attend church as intended.  Mostly cloudy day S.E. to southerly wind .85 in rain between 12 and 1 P.M.  Heavy rains in night with thunder and wind.  Gobed 9

Cloudy light rain which continue.  Mrs. H. came to wash.  Italy entered the war this week.  Heavy rain much of AM.  Mostly cloudy A.M.  Sun appeared once or twice cloudy AM.  Sun appeared once or twice.  I did not get out.  Harman called late P.M.  Mabel went home.  Tue and girls went to movies at night.  they are finding many fungi, mostly Caprineo micoceus  mostly cloudy, easterly winds.  Gobed 9

Cloudy. E.3.  Still raining from in night wind E.3.  Cool day and mostly cloudy no rain after 9 a, I get mare 2 P. driving to N. Park and south.  Get caught in quite a shower at W.ville.  Look much for mushrooms but didn't find any.  Tom Knock rode with me home from Normal.  Had been hunting.  Phebe went to France's at night.  Tue to Grove's  Muggs and Mabel making rag rugs.  Gobed 9.30.

Cloudy E.3.  There was light rain in night.  Flowers this morn.(.63) we are getting too much of it.  Get mare 10 A.  Get shave at Ed Browns. paid.  Took Mable home P.M. returning her later.  Met Arthur H.  The roads are very muddy, fields often covered with water. mud is everywhere.  Get home 5 P.M.  Maggie and Phebe expecting to go to Chicago Sunday to buy some things.  I had accident P.M. with booze got strangled and got it "up my snout,"  it disabled me for several hours.  Mushrooms not appearing to any  extent.  Mostly cloudy E. to S. winds light showers.  Heavy rains in night.  Gobed 9

Clear.  No curculio yet.  Went down park house with H.G.  Then drove awhile with  Tue.  Drew off "french" at store about 3 1/2 gal.  C.G. feeling badly all day.  Phebe  still sick not much fever though and does not  break out thoroughly.  Has been warm day and dry, need rain Go bed 9.45 PM.  Maggie at Davis at night.

7.  Monday.  5.45 AM.  Ther.  60.  75.  68.
Cloudy and sprinkling lightly at times.  found no curculio yet.  Plums on some trees are as large as small peas.  Set out row of tomatoes  along the N. fence  E.  and 11 optiums, then 7 Paragon 8 Golden (?)  Phebe  about the same this morning but better toward night.  Mrs. Rogers washed.  Plant some sage and radishes.  Pay up Kink and Co and they start west.  Receive  65.20 from Bruner for 63 ties.  Tue not feeling very well.  Tom Knock says  will  build my fence tomorrow, Bill Kelly  agrees to help.  Sprinkle rain several times during  day with several light showers after dark.  Go bed 9.30 PM

Partly clear.  Sprinkle rain little in forenoon.  Bill Kelly works all day, put  up some trellis in garden and spades in garden.  Mrs. Rogers works all day at cleaning up stairs.  I plant two rows of peas in garden.  Three cases Bethesda cerriis(?)  from Chicago.  Baby  took a step or two alone on Sunday the first.  Think she will soon be able to walk.  Go bed 9.30 P.M.

Mostly cloudy day.  Kelly cut burdock &c. round place AM.  Couldn't get T. Knock to work at fence so set Kelly at it, rather slow work.  New tenant moves into one of Curney's house , gave her hay to fill a bed.  Myers pays 2.50 on rent.  Bob Brown brings up another load of wood for Mrs. Perrill half cord.  Cool day but warmer toward night.  Go bed 8.30 P.M.

Clear - smokey.  Rec. letter  and bill of apples from Dorsay .  Apples can load ship Monday.  Lear form Wright that  Dearborn of Mattoon will  place a car load  on market here next week.  Got letter from Brown telling how to pile ties.  Went with Tom Knock down to river  hunting fish, didn't get any.  Warm day strong SW wind Gobed 9.30

About clear.  S.W. wind.  write E.D. Davis regard to lumber inspected Sept. 13.  the City Council last night gave about  five thousand dollars toward sinking a coal shaft.  Try to see  the contraction about timbers.  Went down to A.  Rechter at night but didn't see him.  B& L  Bbl not arrived yet shipped a week ago.  Learn that  car load apples likely to be here tomorrow.  Ed E. sick at night  sent for stuff didn't get it.  I wrote to E.D. Davis about  R.R. lumber inspected Sept. 13.  Jack Logan makes remarks.  Go bed. 10 P.M.

Clear. SW.  Mr. Cummings the  Coal shaft man and get promise of  share of lumber bills.  Took yellow cat off.  Uncle John and Bert down to  dinner.  Learn that Stevens was looking for me, didn't see him.  Hatton finished wood pile by noon.  Pay him up.  get lot of  blank order at Courier office.  The  car load of apples came today, also Bbl stiff from B&h, which Gray bought up.  Tue had sewing machind cleaned today.  50c.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Very heavy smoke.  wind.  S.  Girls went to S.S. after a great time getting ready.  Went up to store an hour or two to figure storing apples which will put in there tomorrow.  After dinner drive with Tue down by Comers.  didn't see him got home about 5 P.M. after driving down by new school house which they have  got about half roofed.  Very smokey, S or SW wind.  Go bed 9 P.M.

Clear excepting heavy smoke, wind S.  Get Crass to help all day.Brush up room a little.  J. Wentz hauls up car load of apples.  They don't average anything extra.  Sell several barrels.  Mrs. Young washed and Tue sends to Mrs. Dickensen to come tomorrow and iron.  Warm smokey day.  Engage Crass to help me tomorrow forenoon.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Nearly clear except heavy smoke.  Wind NE.  Apple trade not very lively.  Learn that  Lem Stark very low.  E. Easton brings wood  to (?) who pays him 2.00.  Crass did not come to help me as promised.  Mrs. Dickenson ironed.  M& P spend evening at Davis'.  Gobed.  10 P.M.

Mostly cloudy.  Mrs. Dickenson ironed T. G. Chambers died this morning.  Start for timber 8.30 with Tom Knock, look over old lumber sold load to P. Snider.  Tom shot two squirrels and a rabbit.  Bill Brown visiting Bob.  We got home just before dark.  Found Comer here, been to Mattoon, didn't get any bills.  Wants me to  carry job of switch ties till January.  Easton begins hauling my wood to house.  C. not well at night;  Gobed 9 P.M.

Clear mostly S.1.  Parker came 9 A and worked most of day repairing back porch.  Paid in full ck 1.75.  Plew was here much  of time but only to gas.  Will employ Parker to roof barn at farm soon.  Phebe young lady friend from Clinton.  I drove S.W. toward night.  Ira Snider's daughter rode a piece with me.  Tue and girls away till bed time.  Tom Knock rode to town gave me a young squirrel  which I prepare for breakfast.  Part clear light variable winds.  Sprinkles rain at dark and after (.02)  I felt poorly all day.  Mort Grove reported some Cuting.  Gobed 9.30 P.  Mrs. Reasor called P.M.  She lives at Hindsboro.

Cloudy considerable rain in night.  Have big mess  mushrooms for breakfast.  Young came to set out bushes, but too wet.  Write out bonds and petitions for license, but don't suppose there is any chance.  Sign H.G.'s bond for supervisor.  Council meets at night and work late.  Tue still very sore throat.  Mostly cloudy day and growing cooler.  11 P,M,
