Cloudy. N.E. 3. I went up for shave before breakfast. Yates. Hitch up to new buggy AM and drive out far as Huffmans getting home before noon am not crazy about new buggy. The main trouble is it is too high to get under shed and pretty hard for me to get into. Late. PM. I took Buddy and Charles down to Jessie Maffets for short call. Mostly cloudy day with strong N.E. wind. Grows much colder P.M. with light rain 4 oc. Reasor's of Hindsboro phone Buddy that will come for her tomorrow. Tue over at Brook's at night till 9 Gobed 9.30

Tue went to church AM. She could not get a R.H. newspaper. John Reasor called with auto for Buddy and Charles 4 P.M. and took them for a short visit in Hindsboro. I hitched up A.M. but did not drive out till 4.30 when I took the Kickapoo trip returning by Wrights and the cutoff. Everything in country looks just about same as a month ago. Corn is little larger: everything is drying up, roads dusty. I drove the new buggy. It does not suit and will try to have some changes made. Jack started but got lost before I got out of town. He was home when I got in at 7 PM. Clear day stiff N.E. wind. We have good fire in grate all day. Gobed. 9.30

Clear E.3. Hitch to old buggy and drive over to Siberts am thinking of returning buggy axels and getting the drop kind. Clear and cold strong N.E. wind. Tue brought some hats for me to select from but none of them fit me. She went down to Hat's at night.~~ E. H. Clark died at Marshall last night. Harman phones at night. Seems much discouraged about weather &c. I drove E. of town toward night to Huckaba's. Crops seem to be holding their own pretty well. Harman has boys hired to pull the milkweeds in his oats. We expected Phebe tonight. Tue went to 8.30 car. she didn't come. Gobed 10.30

Clear. N.E.3. After hitching to old buggy I drove over to Siberts. He says exchanging axels on new buggy "is small matter." Later AM I drove north Anderson road to town line returning by plank road. Drove up the new "paved" road a piece first time have done so. I don't admire same but it may be alright. Get home noon. Tue attended the E.H. Clark funeral at D.H. Dowlings with Mrs. Brooks. Went to cemetery. I stay at home. Phebe arrived about 3 P.M. from Ann Arbor. Buddy and Charles came later from Hindsboro. Reasor's took the car to Buston. Phebe left us Feb. 3 and has been at AnnArbor since about Mar. 1. Ora Webb called P.M. and night. Mort and Kate called at night. K slip in while we were at supper. Clear day, moderate easterly winds. Sat up reading till 11.30 Harman phones night. BA weather.

May 20-22, 1888 in Charleston, Illinois
20. Sunday. 5.30 AM. Ther. 50. 70. 56.
Clear with SE wind. No curculio, think found one about last Wednesday and a few plums that had been stung then no more. Had big mess of mushrooms for breakfast bought of Geo. Modual yesterday. Went there to perk horse with H.G. and W.S.G. in forenoon. Talk of going to Indianapolis next Thursday to look round. Drove while toward night with Maggie and after with Tue and Phebe. Phebe ran against the corner of the house and hurt herself, bruised her face and head. 8.30.
21. Monday. 5.30 AM Ther. 50. 75. 55.
Clear. wind SE. Got letter from Birnhuser Bartle, they think I can sell my furniture to Walsh at Mattoon. Mrs. Rogers washes. Warren Decker says he will begin hauling wood tomorrow. Plant six row white stone potato in bottom. Winter says will have my suit done Thursday. Think some of going over to Indianapolis with H.G. to look round. Warm pleasant day E. wind go bed 9 PM.

Some cloudy E. wind. Start for timber at 7 AM with Bill Kelly work till after 5 P.M. at clearing out fence row. Hot day down there. Got home little after 7 PM. Tue thinks the baby has the measles. Mrs. Rogers irons. Pay R. Rutherford order on N. McMorris for 1.00 Did not have my (?) with me. Pleasant day, things growing. Baby was very restless at night. Gobed 9 P.M. Decker hauled wood to E.H. Clark.
