November 4-5, 1887 and 1901

November 1887

4.  Tuesday  6 30 AM  Ther
Cloudy work all day on election board with Mountjoy, Owens, Wiley & Co  Didn't get home and to bed till 2 AM 5th  The election in town democratic as was expected, but no definite news before I went to bed 2 AM.

5.  Wednesday 8 AM.  Ther 40  67  50
Pleasant day.  Jeff started for Arkansas at  5 AM. H.G. and others at 2 or 3 PM.  Much rejoicing among democrats on result of election  Checkly sheriff and Henly judge only ones on Co ticket elected by Reps.  Feel badly today, headache.  business very lively much drunking.  Gobed 11 P.M.

November 1901

4.  Monday.  6 AM.  Left Sag Harbor for New York at 9.10 AM where I arrive 2 P.M.  Crossed Brooklyn Bridge and went to Navy yard.  Geo Holland's vessel Keasarge not there but foot 34th St NR.  Stop at Grand Union Hotel near Depot retiring about 9 P.M.  Pleasant day and warmer. 

5.Tuesday.  6 AM Election Day in city.  I spent day running round either on foot of 34 but saw no way to reach  Keasarge  Happen on to Geo Holland in 42 St. who was the only ac(?) I met in N.Y. Cloudy chilly day.  Retired same place 9 P.M. and had to get up to pay my bill which didn't like  While in N.Y. ate at Childs resturant 42 St near depot.

October 27, 1890 and 1901

October 1890

27.Monday.  5 AM  Ther
Mostly clear John and Warren go over and pull turnips.  Expected to get a big load, but the patch had been robbed only yielding about 8 Bu of small ones Geo. Martin reports my hogs in their corn field the boys go get them, ring and turn them into W. pasture.  Fix corn crib preparatory to getting some corn of from Jo Handley. Comer moved his mill  out of the hollow today  Warren finishes hauling out Mart (?) this forenoon.  PM  John & Warren work at Johns corn.  I rode over to Milts but he was not homed  I start at 4 PM.  Hunt up Jo Handley to tell him to haul 4  loads corn to my crib @ .35 cts  Found Jo and his family W of river I didn't get home till after dark  Gobed  11P.M

October 1901

27.  Sunday.  Our train left Geneva late but arrived NY 42nd St on time.  Missed one connection at Syracuse  Arrived  at Sag Harbor 12.45 PM.  and at Aunt Mariah's they were eating dinner when I got there.  I was expecting they had been expecting me as I wrote that I was on the way.  Clear pleasant day and warmer.  Charley was over at night  Gobed 9.30 PM.
