Charleston, Illinois on October 14, 1912

14,  Monday,  6.15 A.M.  Ther.  34.  64.  48. =48 2/3
Clear N.1.  Light frost.  Ferd is to be married (17. inst. ?)to Florence Purtill when he will return to Oklahoma at Haskell.  Tue and Maggie fix up box for Phebe which send by Exp.  Write Cass Shaver reply to his letter of 10 inst.   Guy Loving began pick peas 10 A.M.  Tue phoned early to Rene that Ferd was here but Charley did not come over to see him.  Charley was to start  to Decatur  from Best's where has office, at 7 AM.  Guy picks and other job till after 4 P.M.  Paid from pocket .75 cts.  Maggie's goods &c came Sat.  She has (been) busy unpacking a good deal today.  Guy cleans up wreck after Mort (?) Co.( burns brush heap).  Alfred came 4 P.M. doing chores &c.  Tue and Maggie busy as bees all day.  Self unwell.  Clear day N.W.2.  Go bed 8.30  Take mare to Nickles.

100 Years Ago...

7.  Wednesday.        6 AM.  Ther.  66.  82.  72.  = 73 1/3
Cloudy, N.1.  Light rain began about daylight.  Shrivers men work most of day.  Muggs intended going Loxa with me but find that P.P. didn't go~  They will begin tearing down old shop at L. in morn.  Rene*, Charley** and Grace*** came about noon staying to dinner.  C is going to locate at Decatur.  They left for the park about 2 P.M.  Drive E. on old Ashmore road P.M.  Breeching broke on river hill and mare ran within a few rods of ford.  It came near being serious accident.  I had further  trip to view but decided to go home after reaching river.  Tue and girls seem to be expecting Buddy but she doesn't come.  Much cloudy day.  Sp. rain in morn and at night.  Thunder S. at night.  Only trace of rain altogether.  Light southerly winds.  Tue learns that Kate did nnot go Monday as intended.  I have cramps PM. and night.  Take mare to Nickles.  Gobed 9.30 P.M.

May 16, 1912 & 1887 in Charleston, Illinois

100 Years Ago

Thursday,  May 16, 1912,  5.30 A.M.  Ther.  48, 60,  52 = 53 1/3
Cloudy and raining which continues.  Tue and E. clean A.M.  Chilly day and we are out of coal.  Have plenty of scrap wood.  Light rain most of day measuring late P.M. .50 in.  Fresh northerly wind.  There was a collision between car and dray in front P.M.  Charley Hildreth* called a few minutes P.M.  We haven't kept any too warm here today. Tuesday paid Haro McNeel 1.00 for sharpen mower.  He has not sent it home as agreed.  It stopped raining before dark.  Gobed 9 P.M.

*Tue's nephew.  His father was her brother Albert.  Charley was a doctor.

125 Years Ago

Monday,  May 16, 1887  6.30 A.M.  Ther.  62, 87, 68  Some cloudy, start down to Snider after Tue and Co about 7.30.  See Comer say  he will be on lands tomorrow morning to go to timber.  There was an election held today to vote on building a new school house in the eastern part of town.  they voted to build it.  The city went to work full force cleaning up the streets.  Took drive round town and after Osage with Lag Harris.  A spotted dog  followed me home which will keep till the owner calls for him.  Mostly clear day, cloudy and sp rain at night.  Go bed 9.30
