July 3-4, 1913 and 1888

1913

3.  Thursday,  5.30 AM.  Ther.  76.  92.  84.  =  84.
Clear. S.E.1.  gs.  Get start for Loxa before 8 AM.  Met Steam Threshing out near Jo Reats.  I drive through Loxa about 9.30.  Met Florence Gaines.  I took in whole farm.  Things looking better than average farm this year.  Paul with Cox and a hand were plowing corn S.E. of house.  Charley Jones paid 5.00 Oakley rent.  Charley will renew my sub. to R.H.  I get home 12.30.  Part cloudy, fresh south wind.  Get Ben Oats at I.B.M. at late P.M.  Tue over at Groves at night.  Jim Turner died last night.  No word from Emmett and letting work go for the present.  Gobed 9.30

4.  Friday.  5.30 AM.  Ther.  74.  92.  82.  =  82 2/3
Clear.  S.3.  Get shave at Browns after breakfast, paid 30 c.  So much  firing in vicinity that don't hitch up till about noon.  Old mare and Jack dog kind of crazy about fire crackers.  However I took them both out P.M. without accident.  I drove out by Al Latta's place return by Helen's in time for supper big crowds have gone to the park today and to Mattoon.  Phebe and Fern went over to Mattoon on 2.30 P.M. car.  Part cloudy with sp. rain about 3 P.M.  Emmett phones that will work tomorrow if I want him.  Gobed 10

3.  Tuesday,  5.30 AM.  Ther.  75.  93.  78.
Clear.  Baby sick this AM.  Tue sends for Dr.   Bill Kelly works all day for me.  (?) out washes windows, &c.  (?) hauls down load of old lumber.  hat here P.M.  Give up keys to Miss Kemayer P.M., she signs lease dated July 4th.  Still have skylight and some other things to fix.  Myers came up in morning and makes lots of promises about rent, pays Tue $1.00.  Tomorrow he will owe balance 3.12 and rent for July 6.00.  Looks like rain at night.  Lightning in N.  Sultry day and night. Tue and baby sleep downstairs until after midnight.  Think baby better.  Gobed 10 PM.

4.  Wednesday,  5.30 AM.  Ther.  74.  94.  73.
Mostly clear.  Very few people in town today.  Kirk & Co.up with Tess say they are going to quit.   Have put out 120 the last time went down to H RR () Kirk & Co count them.  Paid them $11.00 in full.  Girls celebrate with fire crackers.  Baby better.  Rain storm at night with some wind N. about 9 P.M.  Cooler at night, gobed 9 PM.

February 27 to March 1, 1913 and Feb. Weather 1913

1913

 27.  Thursday.   6 AM.  Ther.  36.  34.  32.  = 34.
Cloudy.  NN.E.3.  Light fog.  We see by yesterday's paper that Florence Gaines at Loxa has  boy born yesterday.  Learn this morn that Walter Linder is dead at hospital in Chicago.  Tie up brush broom for Tue A.M.  The RC will not meet tomorrow.  Mr. Law on sick list and keeps his room much of day.  Cloudy day dark and damp. Quarter  of inch fine snow fell after dark.  Self feel poorly.  Have been reading too much as well as eating too much.  Gobed 7.30.

28.  Friday.  6 A.M.  Ther.  24.  38.  32. = 31 1/3
Cloudy. N.2.  The trouble in Mexico has been filling the papers for several days.  Mr. Lee who has recovered from measles resumes room today.  I supposed he had left.  Tue and self both not well and we attribute same to  too much graham flour.  Mostly clouday (sic)  day with N. to Easterly light winds.  I shaved myself late P.M.  The little snow of last night disappeared and another one came late P.M. and tonight say 2 1/2 inches.  Tue went  over to Groves the evening getting home about 10 P.M.  The snow was from easterly, began say 3 P.M. and yielded .23 in Precipitation.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Average daily mean 31.14 Maximum 66 on 19th Minimum.  0. on 5th Precipitation 1.79 in about half of it being melted snow.  there was about 8 inches of snow.  Cloudiness 44%.  Prevailing winds north and southerly thus N. 6 2/3;  N.E. 1 1/3;  SE 2 1/3; S 4 2/3;  SW 5; W. 4. and NW 3 days.  All roads have been very bad were getting good until this week.  The ground Mar. 1 covered by two  or three inches snow.  There has been  little changes in prices  Hogs are going up Ave 8.60 in  Chicago.   Corn , here, say 40c  oats 30.  Butter 30 to 40  Eggs 25.  They are still working on water tank on Monroe ST.  Have two sections of tank up and the connecting pipe in place.  I have not been up then for two weeks.  The Council are thinking of installing meters for the water.

March 1.  Saturday.  6 A.M.  ther.  16.  38.  26. = 26 2/3
Clear. N.W.2.  Ray came 7 AM. cleans off snow working over an hour.  Walter Linder was buried today.  Tue  ironing much of A.M.  Ellen Elkins called about noon in on her way to Bushton.  Mr. Laws, the roomer is down with measles.  Tue was uptown late. P.M. getting grub, bacon, etc.  Mostly clear day did not effect snow much.  Clouding up toward night with snow flurries and growing colder with high westerly wind all night.  Gobed 9
