August 24, 1912

24.  Saturday.  6 AM.  Ther.  62.  86.  76. = 74 2/3
Clear.  S.W.2  Muggs went out to Park on 6.15 car.  Emmett came 7 AM.  Worked till noon.  Paid in full to date ch. 2.35.  He mowed yard.  Cut weeds in pasture and made a general cleaning up of grass and weeds.  Good man but has too much Co.   Complain of feeling somewhat better rheumatically but not able to attend fair.  I drove late P.M.  Pass Frank Balch's  They are still at home by quarantine.  Had heard from, Kate since since she got home.    I drove E and S.E. not meeting many people.  The dog Jack could not go.  He does not seem to get much better very fast: eats little, can walk if necessary.  I was alone with Charles at night.  Mostly clear day with brisk southerly winds.  Wells (Chas.) repaired lawn mower yest.  It works well.  Put mare in pasture at night.  Gave Mr. Bell rakings of back lot.  Go bed 10 P.

Wednesday, July 31, 1912   6.30 A.M.  Ther.  60.  82.  62. = 68.
Partly cloudy. N.2.  Phone Nick and got it 5 P.M.  I try to find Harvey but unsuccessful.  Could not get to  where was at work.  Drove N. A.M.  Much threshing done.  Many people working in hay.  Most of it being  cut and in cock.  Go up to  Bs for Sh Pd 9 AM.  My  "rheumatism so bad today that am thinking seriously of doctoring it.  I did not --could not.  Look for mushrooms P.M.  I start out to find Harvey again.  Saw him at R.R. but could not speak with him.  Talk while with Jo Whalen while waiting.  Met Frank Balch.  His folks are worse.  He is quarantined outside.  Fair day, light northerly winds clouding up PM with trace of rain at say 4 P.M.  Parker calls 6 P.M.Will go to farm in morn with Phew to begin on B.C. shed.  Take mare to Nickles to get early start in morning.  Gobed 9 P.M.


The Weather For July 1912.  Mean temperature. 76.  Maximum 96 on 24th.  Minimum 58 on 19th and 27th.  Precipitation 6.41 inches.  Ir rained on 15 days.  Very heavy rains on 10th 2.53 in.  Much thunder, but few wind storms.  Cloudiness  37 1/2%.  3 2/3 Wind direction and duration have been N.3 2/3, NE 4 2/3, E.2, SE 3 1/3 S 8. SW 6 1/3, W 1 1/3, and NW 1 2/3 days.Have had some muddy roads, but they are good now Aug 2.Corn fields very foul with grass and weeds.  Corn stands up well.  There was large acreage of oats.  They are now threshed.  Corn 65  Oats 28 cents Butter 25 to 30.
