August 9, 1887 in Charleston, IL

100 Years Ago . . .

9    Tuesday,   5.45  AM   Ther.  60.  98.  76.
Clear, Baby cried good deal toward morning.    Get horse shod at Rice's and start for mill at 8 AM.  Roads very dusty and badly cut up.   River barely running.  In that sections they have had no rain since May.  Water is very scarce.  Many people are hauling water for domestic use.  Comer  claims he has got all he can out of the tie chopping, but to me there seems to be a good deal left there yet.  Engage  Riley Decker to cut a few cord of wood out of the black oak tops left.  Very hot day and clear.  Wind northerly and light.  Got home at 6 PM.  Gobed 9 PM.
