September 20-22, 1913 and 1888 in Coles County Illinois

1913

20.  Saturday.  5.00 AM.  Ther.  60.  56.  52.  =  56.
Cloudy S.10.4.  There were light showers in night.  (.08).  Bill came and worked till 4 P.M.  Pay  him full to date check 4.45.  He put cord of wood in cellar.    Is expecting to cut corn next week and will return to finish up my work.  Helen went home 3 P.M. Bill washes off wheels AM.  Tue irons P.M.  Late I drove E. to Huckaba road getting home after six.  Mont was over while after supper.  Will begin my work coming week when finish at Normal.  Cloudy day with N.W. 4 wind and some light showers P.M.  Gobed 9.

21.Sunday.  5.30 AM  Ther.  50.  56. 52.  = 52 2/3
Cloudy.  NW.2.  Tue slept rather late.  Later went to church.  Fire in furnance in order this morn, and keep same all day.  We had cornbread for dinner the first lately.  I grated the corn.  (?)  4 PM.  I drive S round by the old Atkins road getting home 6 PM.  I got caught in a thin shower coming home, not enough to wet me.  It was a cold drive.  Boys play football day on Library lot and are getting to be a nusance.  Part clear day, overcast at night.  Go bed 9 P.M.

22.  Monday.  6 AM.  Ther.  40.  56.  46.  =  47 1/3
Clear.  NW2.  We are about out of coal.  Andrews will deliver us load tomorrow morn.  Tue wrote Phebe.  I drove up before noon getting steak at Dorsch's order pair of pants.  C.
E. Tates.  Will get suit.  He took order on the street as I don't feel able to go up to shop.  Tue and I go to Loxa 1.30 getting home 6 P.M.  Went N. road took basket of pears to Charley J.  Drove up through place and over much of pasture going out NE gate and through Loxa again.  Hariman and  and Cox are up at "other place" at work.  Saw signs of light frost in cornfields, very  light.  has done no plowing for me.  Has cut some corn near A Moores and along E(?)  E of BC shed.  We found pasture all right and lots of young grass just starting.  Cliff said it was ll dead.  Cliff also said we could not  drive S. from BC sh in a/c fallen B.C.  The BC looks well and will soon do to cut.  Tue looked over house.  The expected tenant one Hite has not shown up.  Clear mostly, moderate N.W. wind.  Heavy cloud smoke S.E. all P.M. supposed in oil region.  Helen came before we got home.  She and Tue spent eve. at Groves.  gob 9

20.  thursday.  5.45  AM.  Ther.  66.
Cloudy.  Pretty heavy dash of rain in the night above midnight.  Roads some muddy near town.  NO rain down in timber.  4 min at work.  Pleasant day  Gobed 9 PM.

21.  Friday  5.45  AM  Ther.  60.  85.  66.
Partly cloudy.  Dash of rain early in morn before day.  Start  to timber 8 1/2 AM.  Big Rep. rally in town today.  Three men work 3/4 day today heavy wind came up from N. about 2 1/2 P.M.  Men quit at 3 PM. and I started home rained all the way, was constantly meeting wagons on way home from speaking.  I came home by Diona road.  Rains till in the night heaviest rain for several weeks.  I  walked over on South ridge today looking for board trees.  Go bed 8.30 P.M.

22.  Saturday.  6 AM.  Ther.  64.  71.  63.   
Mostly cloudy morning and day.  Went down to timber.  No men at work today.  This  was day for Commisioners to look at proposed changes in road and they were promptly on hand after looking over the ground they agree to let me change the road as c(?) stated.  I started home about 3 P.M.  Gather about bushel of butternuts on the way home.  Roads muddy.Stream not up any.  I looked round throughly for road to come out of middle hollers and I think I found a place.  Tue put in day putting up fruit mash peaches clear at night and cooler  gobed  9 PM.
