May 2- 10, 1914 in Charleston, IL (Highlights)

May 1914

2.  Saturday.  5:45 AM. 
Myers came 7  and works the day alone painting on S and E.  Miller has gone preaching to return Monday.  Tue and I plant A.W. (?) and some sweet corn.  I got gal of oil .75 and some putty .10 of Briggs AM.  Met and talk with  Jell Grun.  He runs a grocery in Urbana.  His sister Ollie very sick here.  Saw Mat Brown first time since last fall.  Get letter on mushrooms from T Raw ST. James, Mo.  Mrs. Shrierns called P.M. to see about papering some rooms at farm &c.  Tue , Mrs. Curd and Mrs. Brooks attend some meeting at library 4 PM.  Later I take Tue down to Hats and drive to Fritz's.  He will work Monday. 

3.  Sunday
Rested poorly attributed to mush supper about 8 PM last night.  Oil up  buggy "1000 mile axle."  It won't run 50 miles.  I drove E to River by R.R. bridge.  The mare gave me two scares on trip in turning.  I got home 1 P.M.  at 5 I took H.G. up to town line and past Cemetery and Hardy Hills.  Fair day .

4.  Monday
Phone J.E.M. but is not home.  Has gone to springs for his health.  Jake went to painting.  Jack Colby explains at length about mushrooms.  After supper Tue per request spent evening at Morty's till 9.30

5.  Tuesday.
Tue gets letter from Muggs.  She has been sick but is better.  Is thinking of getting job at Jeff City.  Find right shaft broken worse than usual and get Siebert to exam.  Will repair it soon.    Tue went to Aid Soc. meet and also gets wallpaper.  Tue went to hear "Marther" at opera house in Co with Groves.

6.  Wednesday.
I plant a few hills of Il. wonder bean.  Went to Loxa.  Stop and talk to Gaines girls who were out in front with their babies.

7.  Thursday.
Helen called with Geo. A.M.  Mrs. Belbideaux , our 5th Street neighbor  called.  much cooler had to make fire in furnace.  License expires in Mattoon today.  Tue gets comps for  "The Traffic" show and attend it at Opera house with Mrs. Curd at night.  I kept mare up tpnight.  Gobed 9 P.

8.   Friday.
Carried to new book No 34

Many lists and notes on the fly pages.  The house painting, including labor and supplies cost was $40.05.

8.  Friday 5:40 AM
Tue got letter from Buddy, Charlie is threatened with whooping cough.  Tue with Mrs. curd start for function at Sally Campbells 10 AM.  Bill Campbell is running a shop at Greenup.  

9.  Saturday.  5.30
This is day for field meet of 27 high schools in this part of the  the state at Normal grounds.  I visit bank for some blank checks.

10.  Sunday
I spent morning rounding up old newspapers.  Will have to move them or ourselves soon.  The paper (R.H.) has recently consolidated with Inter ocean an has also changed hands.  The new management begins tomorrow at 4 PM.  I drove  SW going by Brown Chapel and up by JW Piercys returning by Lattas place.  Met many autos.
