May 17-21, 1914 in Charleston, Illlinois

17.   Sunday.  5:30 AM.  Ther.  48.76.  56.  = 60.
clear.  E.2.  The mare wouldn't come up and pastured the night and till 9 this morn.  Oil my buggy.  Tue went to church AM.   I drove to Latta place AM, getting home 12.30  Everything dry.  The creeks have been but little water.  Mare "downsy" from her surfeit last night.  However toward night we plan to go to Helen's but just before we started the Morties appear.  This spoiled my plans.  They left before dark.  Tue  had SB shortcake dinner I ate too much  and omit supper altogether.  Clear day light easterly winds  Gob 9

18.  Monday. 5.30 AM. Ther. 50.  82.  60.  =  64
Clear.  E.2.  We got a Blue Danube record from Phebe.  Tue cleans some up stairs.  Take scythe to H(?) AM get this book which by the way is same one I didn't want.  Dr. and Mrs. Brooks started for Texas today for a visit to relations.  I  dug out one of old teeth  leaving 8 on hands  Copy this Record off from various sheets where have been keeping it for week or so.  Tue went up town and elsewhere calling.  I drove up by J.B. Hills and to town line returning by Watson road.  Not many  on roads.  They are getting very dusty in spots  Saw much corn up looks well but small.  Saw much corn up looks well but small.  Set home 6 PM,  Tue spent evening at Mrs. Curds after supper.  Gobed 9.30

19.  Tuesday.  5.30   AM,  Ther.  60.  86.  66.  =  70 2/3
Clear.  There seems to be a haze or smoke in air no clouds wind E. of S.2.  Locust blooming:  they come very slowly.  Tue decides to go out to Helen's which we  do 10.30 A getting home noon.  Gus feeling pretty blue about the weather.  We had  (?) greeens for dinner Mrs. Curd called P.M.  Tue attended some meet at town P.M.  Tue and Mrs. Curd attend movies at night.  I get scyth and sickle sharpened at Hostelters E Meter reads 1090 KWH last reading 1076 =14 CG
P.S. Co. reads meter 20 inst. making same 14 KWH

Mostly clear some cloudy P.M. southerly wind 2.  gas smell. AM    Miller  and Myers call AM.  They begin on Harman's barns &c. tomorrow and will do some work on our farm buildings.  Go bed 9.30 P

20.  Wednesday.  5.30  AM.  Ther.  54.  84.  62.  = 66 2/3
Clear hazy.  S.2.  Helen called   with Geo.  Learn that Pete McGurty dead at  Indianapolis.  He had been sick a long time with cancer  will be buried here Friday morning.  Get notice Phebe's swing  has come.  Tue working upstairs at closets.  She is doing the work herself.  Mrs. Grove over PM and Tue was there at night.  I drove round town late P,M,  Went down to Endleys orchard and elsewhere.  There is nothing new about the weather.  It continues to get dryer.  Warren Decker calls to water horses.  Both he and Ike have finished on my place.  A few clouds P.M. Moderate southerly wind gob 9.30

21.  Thursday  5.30. AM.  Ther.  56.  86.  68.  =  70.
Mostly clear haze.  S.2.  I get ready to start Loxa 10 AM but return and phone to Harman's.    Mrs. H. says  painters not working today so give up trip.  Was intending to take out material to  repair chimney at  farm.  Miller called P.M. decide to send stuff out on car tomorrow,  Tue got letter from Muggs.  She can't come home till about Aug. 1.  J.O. Hall delivered Phebe's porch swing AM.  Mostly clear moderate southerly winds.  Talk with Geo Weyeth up town.  Farners are feeling blue on account of the drouth.  Pete McGurty's remains were taken to John's P.M.  I felt worse than usual all day Lay on couch till bedtime 10 P.M.
