April 6 - 7, 1914 and 1889 in Charleston IL

April 1914

6.  Monday.  6 AM.  Ther.  44.  62.  54.  =  53 1/3
Part cloudy, S.3.  the continues taking "Colche Sal" and  thinks it helps her.  Bill  came at 7 A and went to work.  Took out ashes.  Takes kindling to cellar; clears off garden place where old house stood.  Helped me hitch up.  I intended  going to Loxa but light rain early stops me.  Bill quit about 1.30 on account of the rain.  Put up mare late.  It rained all PM.  Learn that Frank Alexander and Emma Knock are dead.  Both have been sick a long time.  Tue at Grove's at night til late  Gob 9.30

7.  Tuesday.  6.30 AM.  Ther.  44.  42.  36.  = 40 2/3
Cloudy N.E. 3  It rained all night.  Meas. 7 AM (1.01) in. and rain continues from N.E.  Have to warm up house AM although rather short on fuel.  Bill H. called AM and Pay him up to date check 1.60.  Grows colder A.M.  Ther. falling to 40.  It quit raining about 2 PM.  Tue went to Aid Society meet also to vote.  I went up  to vote at 3 PM.   We are so near out of  coal we don't keep hous(sic) very warm and decide to order load in morn.  Cloudy with rain all day till about 2 P.M.  Strong northerly wind.  Gobed 9

6.  Saturday.  5.50 AM.  Ther.  26.  54.  43.  = 41
Clear N. wind hard frost ice forming over 1/4 in thick in open air.  Abbott came and spaded east end of raspberry  patch.  Uncle John in P.M. he sold the white cow for 26.00 and gave the money to Tue.  Deposit same to her a/c.  Miss K. paid her rent does not like  counter I got for her.  Rep. City Convention today clear cool N. wind gobed 10 PM  Got new pair pants at Winters 7,oo.

7.  Sunday 7 AM.  ther.  38.  60.  44.  =  47 2/3
Clear Easterly wind.  After dinner at 2.30 went out  to Uncle John's.  Found Snider there after a horse which was just what I was figuring on~ didn't mention it though.  got home after sunset getting very dry  roads good still  some what rough grass not growing much. Uncle John sold the white cow to Dorsch, am feeding her til Monday.  He said he had another cow we could have soon.  gobed 10 PM  clear day
