Most clear N.E3. Tue getting ready to go Mt. C. all AM. and leaves on 3.13 PM. Train late. A bad day for it. Light rain or sleet much of day beginning at 7 . She thinks of staying with Buddy about 10 days. Phebe went to train with her.I intended to hitch up. Had I done so would have left Mare at Nickles for night. Freezing all day with Northeasterly wind, but into sleet toward night and kept it up till after 2 AM when turned to snow. Everything covered with ice. Gobed 8.30

Cloudy. N.W. 3. snowing with 4 or 5 in. of ice and water on the ground. Ther. fell last night. H.G. call to renew note to renew for 90 d. 35.00. Cold water, Bill cleans out paths. Pd 50 c. It stops snowing 9 AM. Harman came in after dinner and settles for several old lots of corn. Pays 112.07 of 12.00 being for 30 bu. soft corn @ 40 c sold to him. He brought us 1 lb. of butter. I pay him 2.15 for butter, beef and glass. After he left I hitch up mare to take her up to barn but phone them to come for her. Precipitation today measured about six inches snow and sleet which fell last night and yesterday 1.57 in. in all. Learn by paper that Mr. Marvel has been nominated for P.M. at Clinton. Mostly clear day light westerly winds.

Average temperature 37.7. Maximum 68 on the 28th. Minimum 12 on 12th. Cloudiness 64 per cent. Precipitation 2.73 inches S(?)now say six inches. Coldest day 12th. warmest 58 2/3. The winds have been North 4 2/3; N.E. 1; S.E. 2 1/3; S 10; S.W. 4 1/3; W. 1 and Northwest 6 2/3 days. The roads have not been so bad. I have not driven much and horse has been at nickles most of the month. Corn is selling at 52 cts Cliff says. There is much poor corn last year. Country butter 30 Eggs 30. The ground is covered with say 5 inches heavy snow' an sleet. Trees loaded with ice. This wont compare with same of our sleet storms. In Feb. 1869 much large timber was destroyed by a sleet.

Clear. W.2. There seems to be little doing here today. Phebe went up for R.H. getting a later edition than usual which contains weather report. The storm was pretty general in the north Central west. I fix up my weather for January. Shave self rather late P.M. Jack dog is sick, had a fit in kitchen, also had one yesterday when Harman got scared. We got letter from Muggs yesterday. Nobody called Phebe anJ.E.Md self spend day reading. The ice mostly leaves trees an snow settles good deal. Gobed 9.30

Part Cloudy. S.E.3. Phebe didn't get up till about 8 The day warms up and light rain at 2 P.M. &c. We get letter from Tue P.M. She got to Buddy's all right Friday night and reports
them all well. The snow gets patchy today but it grew cooler P.M. after the rain. Electric bill 3.90 for Jan. Talk with J.E.M. as he passed in morn. Mattoon votes tomorrow on commish proposition 1 or 3 . Charley does chores and will return Wed. eve. I made mush at night. Ph bought same also. Clear at night. gobed 9
