February 19-22, 1888 in Charleston, IL.

19.  Sunday.  7.30AM.  Ther.  47.  54.  52.
Cloudy, Showers o rain in night.  Girls and baby coughed most of the night.  Rain this morning and occasionally during day.  Wind S.E. change cooler between 9 and 10 P.M.    Tue and self try to make out list of garden seeds we want but did not finish.  went to be 11 P.M.

20. Monday.   6.30 A.M.  Ther.  33.  40.  33.
Clearing off from W.  west wind strong.  H.G. called in morning after some liq.  Sent 8.47 to Joseph Harris Seed Co. for seeds and fertilizer.  Comer up town give him statement of a/c which he disputes saying it is about 50 dollars too much, nearly gets mad about it.  Says will be up Wednesday or Thursday and straighten it up if we can.  Have not settled since Sept. 25.  See Tom Stoddert about the Nicholson place.  He says it could be fixed up this count we look up the record and find their mistakes.  Clear day with west wind.  Gobed 10 P.M.

Cloudy and fair.  Light W. wind.  Mrs. Rogers comes to wash about 8 AM.  Has not washed for us for two weeks.  Walk down to RR with Seph to look at switch ties.  There is one set there and think will have them piled tomorrow.  Walk around place P.M. looking at fences &c.  The ground is thawed down about 6 inches and is very muddy.  Hat called toward night.  A man named Watkins that was shot in a quarrell(sic) the other night died last night.  Mrs. S.E. Ray was buried today.  Buy blank diary to follow this one.  Not feeling very well.  Gobed  p PM.

22.  Wednesday.  6.15 AM.   Ther.  26.  48.  27.
Clear and fine calm white frost.  Get three men and team and pile set of switch ties at R.R. getting done before 11 AM.  Man named Myers calls  wants to rent Nicholson place.  Think will have to rent it Tom Stoddert says can't clean up the deed  at this next court.    Farmer's Institute meeting in town  good many farmers in.  Mrs. Rogers irons in afternoon.  Clear day with little wind still chilly.  C.G. not yet feeling very well  Gobed 9.15~~
