August 14, 1887 in Charleston, Il

125 Years Ago . . . .

14.
Sunday,  6.30 A.M.  Ther.  78.  102.  75.
Mostly clear..  Didn't rain much last night.  Very oppressive.  Had dinner about noon. Expecting to start down to Fan's* but too hot and wait until about 4 P.M. taking whole family.  Cloud came up while on way there and began to rain soon after arrival.  Heavy shower with much thunder and lightning.  Threatened rain so I decided to stay all night.  Heavey thunder shows in night with but little rain, however-  We all slept in N.E. room at Blakemans.  Gobed abt 9 P.M.

*Fan is Tue's younger sister.  She is expecting.  She and her family live in the house at the top of the hill as you turn into Lake Charleston, it is on the left.  Blakeman's mill would have been on the right as you turn into the lake.  When I was a kid there was a bridge walk to the front door and we called it the Girl Scout House.  I do not know if the Blakemans lived at the mill, but they must have lived close.

  1. OH I think about that house everytime I drive by there. That bridge to the house, and yes it was called the Girl Scout house.
